My 2007 Outback wagon tailgate lights, lock failed to work. Some of the wiring within the flexible rubber conduit broke and shorted out the fuse. The wires could not endure the repeated motion of the tailgate movement. I have now learned that several others have had the same issue. The upper brake light, reverse lights, tailgate lock are affected. I believe the rear wiper motor wiring is in the same harness. A previous owner made a repair of one wire as seen in the photo. Repair did not hold up. Subaru should correct the condition at no charge.

Rear tail running light bulbs inside the lift/tail gate were burnt out and when replacing the bulbs the plastic housing the bulbs press into were charred and cracked. I fear this is a potential fire hazard given the state of charring. My vehicle did not experience a fire, but I am submitting this complaint in case similar vehicles have caught fire from this area.

Bought a 2011 Subaru Outback on February 7, 2018 from dealership, 90k miles. I've owed this car for 5 weeks and one day and I finally had time to go to the dealership to have the driver's side low beam bulb (which blew out about 3 weeks after purchase but is under warranty) and also both brow lights (daytime running lights). One was dim, the other was out. I brought the bulbs and gave them to the dealership to be installed. When finished replacing, dealership said I had a tail light out too. I told them I would replace and went across the street to purchase a bulb. Drove home and went to replace tail light and noticed I had two out, one on each side?! confused, I grabbed a friend to verify and after a bit, I ended up tapping the light lense and the light came on. Both of them did after tapping each lense. Checked the bulbs and they were secure. Also, about 2 weeks after purchase, I had a plate light out. Again, I bought bulbs and when I went to replace, it was miraculously was working.

Have replaced the low beam h7 bulb 5 times this year and has even blow less than 1 hour after fixed by a Subaru dealership. Tail lights have been replaced 3 times in 8 month. High beam lights 3 times in the past 12 months. Fixtures twice. Charred from extreme amp spikes in wires. Now to top it all off entire wiring harness for passenger side is out.

Repeated lighting failures on exterior lights all around car. Have replaced headlights, tail and side lights repeatedly at my cost. Some completed at dealership, some completed at home after cost too much.
Wire harness going to rear hatch had multiple wires severed by repeated opening/closing of rear hatch. Lock and tail light wires were broken though. 4 other wires had their insulation cut and the conductor was exposed. In searching the net this appears to be a very common problem. Why hasn't a recall been issued? failure of brake lights or tail lights are a safety issue.

The rear gate wiring harness failed, causing rear brake lights and tail lights to stop working. Without replacing the rear gate wiring harness ($88. 80 parts + $448. 80 labor + 51. 07 tax) soon the rear wiper and defrost would not work and the back hatch would lock. This is a serious safety issue, I want to see a recall and reimbursement of $588. 67 from Subaru of America.

2015 Subaru Outback. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle tail light issues. Consumer has previous complaint with a different vehicle listed in artemis. The consumer noticed while driving in the snow, the heat from the tail lights was not sufficient enough to keep snow from accumulating on the tail lamp.

Upon noticing a blown 3rd tail light(one of the tail lights on the rear hatch/door of the wagon,) I disassembled and found that the sockets on both sides(left and right 3rd tail-light sockets) were scorched around where the bulbs fit into them. The discoloration was brown/black and was present not only on the socket with the blown bulb but also the other, working side. Dealer replaced blown bulb and made no comment on scorched bulb sockets. It almost appears as if they were so heated they were ready to melt or burn the plastic. Car has been in service for 27 months and has 27k mostly city driving on it. Happy to provide photos of the affected sockets to anyone investigating or concerned.
Since the vehicle was purchased in 2011 we have lost both day time running lights, one tail light and the driver side head light twice. The driver side headlight issue happened within three months. This seems to only happen in cold weather (teens and twenties). We have received inspection tickets for this issue from the police. Looking on line there are several people complaining about headlight blowing very quickly. Also, Subaru has a very poor design for allowing owners to replace their own headlights. You have to take it to the dealership where the inner fender well has to be removed and then it is a very tight space to reach the headlight to replace it. This can get very expensive to the consumer as well as being a huge safety issue.
The headlights and tail lights have failed (burned out) multiple times in the 4 years of owning the vehicle. Some within 3 months of being replaced other might last 8 months to a year. I am wondering if this is a wiring issue causing such short bulb life.
Over the span of 4 years owning my Subaru Outback, I have had to replace the same headlight twice, as well as a parking light and a tail light. The headlights are impossible to reach unless you are a mechanic. My understanding is that this is a common issue with Subaru Outback. I would like Subaru to acknowledge and fix this costly and potentially dangerous problem.
The headlights, parking lights and tail lights are constantly going out on this vehicle. This began shortly after I purchased it in April 2011 as a brand new vehicle. Some lights have been replaced four or more times. Some have gone out again a week after they are replaced.
