Subaru Tribeca owners have reported 3 problems related to brakes failed (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I was traveling at about 30 miles per hour on my way to work. Luckily had not entered the freeway yet. Approaching a stop and my brakes failed! the pedal was hard as a rock. I could not stop the vehicle as I was heading into crossing traffic. I ended up hitting a snow bank. I had the car towed to the dealership for repair. They replaced the brake booster and vacuum hoses. On may 11, 2017 I had my vehicle in for the 120,000 service check. Upon picking up my vehicle, I was heading home and noticed that the brake pedal was very mushy and my foot was all the way to the floor and the car was barely stopping. I took the vehicle back to the dealership and they have yet to contact me regarding what the problem is. I feel that Subaru should be responsible for this repair and should recall the vehicles for brake booster failure!!! I have seen many posts on the Subaru forums regarding this same issue. I could have been in a serious accident! please respond. To 262-957-4861.

I was going around a bend and the brake pedal locked. I was unable to utilize the brakes. Due to this brake failure, I drove up on a hillside and smashed into a telephone pole. Feel that this is a mechanical defect in the car which caused the accident as the brake pedal was locked into place. The car had no known mechanical issues and was inspected in July 2014.

When the outside temperature dips below 20 degrees f, the brakes fail to work. This has happened 5 times now in the year 2014. This has happened each time my car has sat out in the cold temperatures (<20 degrees) for 8 hours (while at work). When pulling out of my space in the outdoor parking garage, my brake pedal becomes hard and I am unable to depress it. My car will not stop. Applying hard pressure slows it down. This has happened on dry pavement. I once had to use the emergency brake to stop. It has also occurred once after I was operating the car for at least 15 minutes. I have had the car to the dealership twice in the last 3 months since this started. Each time they are unable to duplicate the problem and cannot find anything wrong. I have also emailed Subaru customer service and they stated the dealership would have to duplicate the brake problem in order to fix it. This is a huge safety concern; not to menion I have 2 small children traveling in the car with me. No one seems that worried about it but me. It is all over internet car forums that this happens with Subaru brakes when the temperatures dip. The dealership and Subaru claim they have not heard of this problem. I am extremely frustrated with Subaru.
