1 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Subaru Tribeca

Failure Date: 12/04/2022

After starting the vehicle in sub freezing temperatures the brakes would not work. After applying extreme pressure it was found that the brake would operate but without any power assist. The error "er bb" was displayed on the instrument panel. After applying the brakes several times, the power assist started working and braking was normal again. This condition has repeated several times after the vehicle sits in sub freezing temperatures for a period of time. I believe this may be caused by a frozen check valve in the vacuum line to the brake booster.

3 Service Brakes problem of the 2007 Subaru Tribeca

Failure Date: 12/18/2017

Three days ago I backed my 2007 Subaru Tribeca down the driveway and applied the brakes. . . . . They did not work and the brake pedal did not depress. After pumping the brakes for about two minutes or more they finally started to work. I told my wife and she insisted that she told me about this happened every winter when the temperature was below 25 degrees. I guess I never listened to her. I took the car to the local dealer in schaumburg and he stated that this was a typical problem with the 2007 Tribeca and I would waste my money trying to fix the problem. I called Subaru and they told me to bring the car back to the dealer and that he would discuss the problem with the dealer. The next day I took the car in and never received a call from either the dealer or Subaru. I called Subaru and they stated that they could only fix the problem if the dealer mechanic experts recommended a fix. I then checked on line and found that this was a typical problem with Tribeca, that many people had this same problem with a freezing check valve going to the booster pump. This is a serious and dangerous problem and there should be some sort of fix. . Read more...

4 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Subaru Tribeca

Twice now in the cold my breaks have completely locked up to where I can not even push the pedal down. They seem to release after so many tries, but one time I could not stop at an intersection due to the problem.

6 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Subaru Tribeca

Failure Date: 02/15/2015

The car was started in the driveway on a very cold day. The brake pedal was initially able to be pressed, but then became rock hard and could not be pushed down. After 10 minutes of letting the car warm up, the brake pedal was able to be pressed, but then seized up again 1 minute later. This could cause a crash if it occurred on the highway.

7 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Subaru Tribeca

Failure Date: 01/07/2015

When temperature drops to below 10 degrees fahrenheit, car brakes will not work fully. They work at partial capacity so it takes about 10 times the distance to come to a stop. This is a safety issue as the car is unreliably stopping for at least 5 minutes until the brakes reset and start fully working.

8 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Subaru Tribeca

Failure Date: 12/16/2013

In cold weather the brake pedal is hard as a rock to depress. When car is placed in drive the brakes don't work. According to Subaru blog sites the culprit is the brake vacuum check valve freezing up and not maintaining vacuum to the brake booster. Apparently, this problem affects other Subaru vehicle models for many years back. This is a dangerous design/engineering flaw.

9 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Subaru Tribeca

Failure Date: 01/09/2013

Backing out of garage during cold weather below freezing, stepped on brake pedal and no response from the brake system. Was unable to stop car until I pumped brakes frantically many times. Left car out during below freezing weather 2 more times, same problem--no brakes. Vacuum assist for brakes would not work in below freezing weather. Took car to Subaru dealer, all 3 vacuum hose brakes replaced. Dealer states that each hose has a check valve in it for the vacuum system. Fortunately we discovered this problem at a very low rate of speed. No vacuum assist for the brakes makes this car virtually unstoppable at almost any speed. What if it would have been on a mountain road?? death would be eminent. I feel this should be under recall before someone is killed or maimed.

10 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Subaru Tribeca

Failure Date: 03/25/2012

#1 the VIN # is correct. #2 the brake travel is to excessive for proper response time. This has been noted when the vehicle was purchased with 15000 miles. Lither suburu in white bear lake mn was requested to check this out for another service maintenance. They would not check it because it was not under recall such as the 2011 legacy model. Since my wife drives the vehicle she is not knowledgeable as to the distance the foot pedal should travel. I have spent years in automotive and heavy equipment as a service engineer so I feel qualified to say that this is a safety deficiency. I had another engineer drive it to verify my conclusion.
