Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that while attempting to shift the vehicle into reverse, there was an abnormal banging noise that emitted from the vehicle with the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact stated that there would also be an 'x' on the vehicles instrument panel next to the 'd' for drive on the shifter selector. The contact, who is an independent mechanic, stated that the vehicle was diagnosed that the range transmission sensor had failed and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired, however the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000. Wh.
Transmission range sensor is failing and caused a loss of power almost causing a major accident. This is a common problem with this model year, and needs to be investigated for a safety recall.
My check engine light will come on and go off every once in a while. It just went back on today. I noticed the acceleration was less when I came off a stop light almost like the car was in the wrong gear. I took it to a parts shop to see what the check engine was. It came up as a transmission range sensor. I have read that other people describing this same exact events happening in Suzuki vehicles over 70,000 miles. This could be a real safety risk to the public if the transmission was to confuse itself as being in the wrong gear at high speeds.
My transmission range sensor has failed for the third time in as many years. Each time I have it repaired by the dealership. This malfunction causes the vehicle to spontaneously throw itself in to neutral or reverse either while driving or when vehicle is at a complete stop. While driving my car suddenly jerked very hard then slowed to an almost complete stop causing the car behind me to slam on its brakes and hit my bumper. I stopped, restarted the engine and then was not able to accelerate past 15mph even with my foot firmly on the gas pedal. Like I said before, this is the 3rd time this has failed and I am glad that the person who was behind me stopped quickly and only tapped my bumper. This has also happened at higher speeds and is just an accident waiting to happen. Suzuki needs to do a major recall!! I don't understatnd how so many people are having the same problem yet it is not being investigated!.
The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that there was a clunking noise when changing gears. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic for diagnosis. The mechanic stated the transmission range sensor would have to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that the mil warning lamp illuminated and the vehicle could not be shifted into fourth gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the transmission range sensor was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 32,000 and the current mileage was 37,000.
My check engine light came on. I went to auto zone and was told it was the transmission sensor. After some research, we discovered this problem runs rampant on 2006 Suzuki Forenza models. We took it to the dealership and the manager over parts and service changed the sensor for us. However, the connector it plugs into was broken and he would look for a used one, as buying a new one means buying a whole new engine harness ($800-$900). Anytime I look up my make and model this is all anyone has to say and Suzuki will do nothing about it except charge more money to keep trying to fix it. They should be forced to recall all of these vehicles until the problem is resolved.
I thought my vehicle was stalling but the engine was still running and my tachometer was accelerating. It would stop while I was driving and the engine would rev,I tried to move but could not. I drive a busy highway speed limit 65, I had to pull off the road so I would not get hit by a semi. One day pulling out of my community, accelerating at 45mph the vehicle just stopped in the middle of two lanes, another vehicle swerved to avoid a crash. A police officer pulled over, I explained the car just stopped. He saw the symbol flashing on dash, a rectangle with line through it. Went home in 3rd or 2nd gear, that symbol is not in manual. Had a diagnosis and only O2 sensor I was having replaced. I received recall notice from Suzuki . I was scared to drive the car but had no choice, so drove slow in 3rd or 2nd, when d failed again. I had appointment for recall repairs, while at dealership was asked if I had trouble with the shifter going into gear, I said it had been happening, that I tried to get it checked, it didn't show on diagnostic performed earlier and it was dangerous. They said I need a transmission range sensor, they could fix it. I wanted to take it elsewhere, to save but I was scared to death to drive it. They said they have been seeing this in Forenza's. This is dangerous, life threatening issue. There are TSB's issued and have been incidents like mine and nothing has been done. Someone is going to cause a huge accident if they have not already, would anyone even know if a car is burned up or completely wrecked? I did contact american Suzuki to advise them of my problem so they would have it on record. I advised them that before this dangerous situation developed the shifter was getting stuck in park and that I had reported that to the original dealer and was told they could find no problem so nothing was done.
I bought a used 2006 Forenza sedan and a few days later, the transmission range sensor went out. I just researched and there are several complaints about this issue. Also, the airbag light turned on. Suzuki need to own up to this problem and fix it. Also the 02 sensor went and needs replacement. What is going on.
I was driving on the freeway when all of a sudden my car stales. . Thank god I was close to the right shoulder. I just got the car back from the mechanic and spent 500 to fix the timing belt, new battery, valve, oil change. . I took it to them for this problem in the first place and they couldn't figure it out. I called Suzuki corporate and they said there is nothing they can do. I explained the huge liability if my call just stops in the freeway. . They offer to hold my hand through the process. Suzuki needs a rude awakening. Recall on the transmission range sensor. . I am not sure if that is the problem because no body at the shop could figure it out. But I see on these forums I am not the only one. .
When driving, the Forenza's transmission will not engage into drive. Recently, reverse has also not wanted to fully engage. Research indicates that this is not an uncommon occurrence with Suzuki Forenzas nearing 70k miles. The most common part that is malfunctioning is the transmission range sensor.
The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that while accelerating from a four way stop, the vehicle down shifted on its own and then shifted into neutral. The contact had to apply the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis and the contact was informed that the transmission ring sensor would need to be replaced. This was the second time the sensor was needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The failure and current mileages were 98,000.
When changing gear out of park, receive a message on the dash showing it's not reading the gear and losing extreme amount of power. Diagnosis was transmission range sensor. This is the second time this part has gone out. Further investigation has shown this to be a popular problem.
For approximately year prior to the incident date indicated on this form, 06/05/2012, my vehicle has malfunctioned sporadically in the way(s) I am about to describe. Since 6/05/2012, the malfunction has occurred and worsened every time I drive. Upon the initial gear shift from "park" to "reverse," my Suzuki Forenza jerks. After the shift, the dashboard displays a "p," despite being in reverse. When I shift to drive, I feel a jerk, and my dashboard displays a multitude of things; at times it remains a "p," and at other times it shows "n" for neutral, "r" for reverse, a simple "d," or a flashing "d" with a diagonal line through it. As I press the gas to accelerate, my rpm's increase, the engine revs, but my car does not move forward for a period of anywhere from 10 seconds to a full minute. The vehicle then jerks and shoots forward very quickly, which is greatly hazardous and alarming. Once my vehicle is in motion on the road, a separate but seemingly related incident occurs at various speeds- I can be on a neighborhood street or the interstate. All of a sudden, it feels as if my car is shifting itself into neutral and is still moving due to momentum. Although I immediately remove my foot from the gas pedal, my rpm's shoot up into the 6/7 range, the engine sounds as if it is going to explode, and the vehicle jerks. At this time, the dashboard displays a number of different shifts, alternating from the flashing "d," to, "p," and so on. I have researched this issue and found that hundreds of other Suzuki Forenza owners have experienced the same malfunction, due to the transmission sensor. It may be a relatively easy and inexpensive fix, but that doesn't lesson the severity. This vehicle has had 4 other safety recalls thus far, and I am enraged that it is has not been recalled entirely due to this widespread and extremely dangerous malfunction.
The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that after stopping, the vehicle would hesitate and hinder the contact from shifting into any gear. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who inspected the vehicle and advised that the transmission range sensor failed. The manufacturer was notified who stated there were no recalls for the failure. The vehicle was repaired under warranty. The failure mileage was 62,000.
On numerous occasions the transmission would slip gears, the vehicle jumps and the check engine light goes on. An independent mechanic told me it was the transmission range sensor that was defective and needed to be replaced. This is a seriously dangerous issue because it happens mid drive. Apparently its my transmission range sensor and it has happened to a lot of people. I have done research on this issue with this particular vehicle and have found that this issue is very wide spread. I feel that no matter how well the maintenance on this vehicle is kept up, this issue is destined to become a problem and a safety issue. Because this sensor glitch causes the vehicle to suddenly switch gears and slowdown without warning or brake lights, there is a high possibility for accidents. I believe there should be a recall for this to be fixed. Suzuki motor corp is grossly negligent for naot making a voluntary recall on this inherently defective part. It is the duty and responsibility of ntsb to compell the manufacturer to issue a recall on these 2006 Forenza vehicles.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that the transmission warning light illuminated and caused the gears to engage with force. As a result, the engine overheated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the transmission range sensor however, the failure was not corrected. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 102,000 and the current mileage was 145,000. Kmj.
The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that while stopped at a stop light, the vehicle would not accelerate. The failure occurred at different speeds intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for a diagnostic test. The mechanic stated that the transmission range sensor would have to be replaced. The contact also stated that the same part was replaced two years prior to owning the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.
Transmission range sensor switch malfunctioned. Car would not accelerate while driving down the freeway.
I have had my transmission range sensor replaced, and my vehicle still lacks power when pressing on accelerator. My veh jerks when driving and slows down. Suzuki must do something about this!.
I was driving my Suzuki Forenza last Friday when it went from "drive" to basically neutral. I was driving on the interstate and was almost hit from behind because my car stalled. This has happened multiple times since and each time I've been lucky enough not to be hit. This is a seriously dangerous issue because it happens mid drive. Apparently it's my transmission range sensor and it has happened to a lot of people. I cannot drive my car without going very slowly and being fearful. It will still do it each time I accelerate so I have to be mindful to drive on the right side of the road so I can easily pull into a side road or driveway. I'm hoping to get it fixed ASAP however it's not covered under warranty.
I am so upset that my 2006 Suzuki Forenza transmission range sensor has been going out. I have had this part replaced back in 2009 and it went out while I was driving and almost caused a car accident as I was driving due to the gears shifting as I was on the expressway and had to pull over on the shoulder. I went to the Suzuki dealership and advise of the problem and said that it not covered under the powertrain warranty. I am not have the same problem with my car and as I was going through a light with busy traffice the same issue and almost caused a car to rear ended me and due to the gear changing and causing my car to go slow. Suzuki should have longer warranties on these parts longer that a year due to the part is not lasting. Then the engine light will come on and then the dashboard gears will scramble. The next day the engine light went off and took it to Suzuki and said can not help cause light went off. I drove the car for a few days and the light came back on and I was turning into the street to the turning lane and my car started to stall and oncoming traffic was coming. I am also upset that my lights keep going out and it was a recall and Suzuki said that it was fixed and I am still having a issue. Please help!.
The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact approached a traffic stop signal and applied the brakes when the vehicle shifted into neutral without engagement. The accelerator pedal was applied and there was an extremely slow response from the vehicle. The engine was turned off. The engine restarted with the transmission and gear warning lights illuminated intermittently. The engine warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the transmission range sensor was replaced. The technician informed the contact that the problem was a common failure. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer within an hour after the repair due to a recurrence of the failure and the sensor was reconnected. The manufacturer was not made aware of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 62,000.

I own a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. A little over month ago, me and my family were drivng on the highway, and the car started jerking and slowing down very suddenly. After switching into 3rd gear and thn back to drive, the car finally started picking up speed and driving correctly. A few days after that, I drove my daughter to school and when I got back in the car to go home, the car would not drive over 10mph. It kept jerking very hard. I took it to get diagnostics done and found that it is the transmission range sensor. I have done research on this issue with this particular vehice and have found that this issue is very wide spread. I feel that no matter how well the maintanence on this vehicle is kept up, this issue is destined to become a problem and a safety issue. Because this sensor glitch causes the vehicle to suddenly switch gears and slowdown without warning or brake lights, there is a high possiblity for accidents. I believe there should be a recall for this to be fixed. I have not been able to drive my car for over a month because my family has only one income at this time from my husbands job and I cannot afford to have it fixed. I called the manufacturer and got no assistance. I contacted the dealer asking about a goodwill assistance repair and I have gotten no response.
I bought this car brand new in 06. This is he 2nd time I have to replace the transmission range sensor. This is a safety hazzard I believe this part should be on the recall list. Im not satisfied with Suzuki cars anymore. Seems as though Suzuki dont care about safety or about customer loyalty. I will never ever buy a Suzuki again.

The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,373 and the current mileage was 74,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated the automatic transmission sensor switch which also known as the transmission range sensor was defective and failed to function normally. While driving 45 mph there was a warning light and the vehicle shifted into neutral gear. The contact drove onto the emergency lane and within a few minutes the vehicle would reset itself. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated the transmission sensor needed to be replaced which was not covered under warranty or recall. The manufacturer was not contacted. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 51,798.
Transmission range sensor is going out.
The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that when driving at any speed, the vehicle would lunge forward and skip gears. The contact stated that the vehicle would act as if it were in limp mode and the check engine warning light was also illuminated. The contact repaired the vehicle by replacing the transmission range sensor. The dealer was notified of the failure, but the manufacturer was not. The failure mileage was 37,000 and the current mileage was 39,300. The VIN was not available.
The check engine light keeps coming on. While driving approximately 30 mph the vehicle stopped accelerating. The vehicle was stopped and shifted into park. Upon shifting it back into drive the vehicle operated as normal. Also, as I move the gear into park, drive or reverse, the car jerks through each gear and drives real slow before picking up the speed that can be very dangerous especially at the intersections with oncoming traffic. Previously, I had taken the car to dealership for same reason who told me to replace the transmission range sensor. Since it was not covered under warranty I spent over $300 to get it replaced. Four months later, engine light came back again and the car has same problems as before. Please help.
I own a 2006 Suzuki Forenza sedan. When putting the car into gear, transmission "slams" into gear, instrument panel display scrambles. Sometimes vehicle slips into a higher or lower gear on its own. A week ago, I was passing another vehicle on a two lane highway. While still in the opposite lane, car switched into neutral on its own and I was left in the opposing lane with oncoming traffic coming! I was able to switch to another gear and continued to safely pass the car in front of me, but it was a bit scary. Fortunately, the car I was passing was driving about 40 mph under the speed limit. From what I've read online, there have been several different instances of this issue occurring. It is related to the transmission range sensor. Currently the dealership charges nearly $300 to replace the part, and some say they have similar issues even after the replacement. It is very scary not knowing when your car might decide to switch into neutral or another gear. I hope it never switches to reverse! unfortunately, this issue tends to occur between 40000-60000 miles and is past the initial 36000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, and because the sensor is outside the transmission and not "in" the transmission, it is not covered by the 100000 mile powertrain warranty.
The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where he was informed that the transmission range sensor had failed and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The current and failure mileage was 44,900.
I have a 2006 Suzuki Forenza with an automatic transmission. For the past few months while we are driving the car shifts out of gear, into another gear, or will not shift at all. We have taken the car into west valley Suzuki to have diagnostics and repairs done, they have replaced a transmission sensor, but one week after the repair was done we are still having problems. The issue is intermittent, but we are concerned about the safety of our family that the car would just shift without the driver moving the shifting stick. We have just taken the car back to the dealership and they are saying that there is nothing wrong, and they can't fix anything.
