When turning my car on and putting it into reverse, the check engine light came on and my car jerked into gear and where the r should appear for reverse on the dash, all the letters were scrambled together. The car drove in reverse and then when I put it into drive, it jerked again and then would hardly accelerate. After driving the car for a couple minutes, turning it off, and turning it back on, it would finally accelerate but the check engine light would still be on and the gears would still jerk. The check engine light would go off after a couple days and everything would be fine and then it would all start again. Then my car is starting to switch over into neutral when driving 60mph+ and now it will do this multiple times when driving at any speed. When it switches over to neutral like this while I'm driving, the d for drive on the dash will become scrambled like it does when it jerks into reverse. The problem is getting worse.

I had purchased a 2007 Suzuki Forenza. It had 7 miles on it when I drove it off the lot. At approximately 56,000 miles it started putting itself in neutral gear and intermittently would not allow me to change from reverse to drive. I would have to leave it in neutral, turn the car off then back on in order to put it in drive and even then the car will jerk between gears and has run at 4,000 rpms at 60 mph. It has become a gas guzzler. Now at 82,000 miles I can finally afford to pay the $300 the dealer had told me it would cost to repair this range mode switch that they say was causing the issue. After reading the other complaints regarding the 2006 Suzuki Forenza, and seeing how similar all these issues are, I am I full agreement that this part should have been and should be in the future, covered under the warranty or should be recalled. If I am driving down the highway with my children in the car with me and the car should automatically change gears to neutral and an accident is caused because of this, there will be lawsuits. I am just hoping that this replacement part that is installed will actually hold out and do what it is made to do.
Range sensor on my power train seems like it's going out. I have read dozens and dozens of complains for this very part on this very same model and year car and it's not covered under the warranty and I really don't have $200-300 to get it fixed right now. I have a 2 year old who rides in my car and this isn't safe. What it does is when you get up to about 40 miles per hour it will jerk and decelerate down to about 20 miles per hour, this could cause an accident. From what I've read this part really does need to be recalled because lots of people have had this same issue with this car and this part and the warrant doesn't take care of it. I bought a Suzuki because I thought it was a good car with a great warranty and I'm finding out that might not have been the case.

I have a 2007 Suzuki Forenza and the check engine light just came on. I took it to auto zone and they put it on the tester and it came up with a trans range sesor. This is a dealer part and the car only has about 75000 miles on it. From what I can see online is that alot of people have had this issue. I have replaced 3 of the 4 door handles as well.
The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. While driving approximately 5 mph, the contact applied pressure to the brake pedal and the vehicle jerked forward. When pressure was applied to the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would decelerate and the rpm reading was higher than usual. The contact stated that he was able to drive the vehicle but experienced the failure four different times intermittently. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostics or repairs. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.
Three weeks ago I bought my used 2006 Suzuki Forenza with only 35k miles and in general, it is almost in brand new conditions. Sometimes (when least expected) if you try to shift from park to reverse or drive, the transmission slams instead of applyiing softly as usual and the check engine light goes on. It started doing the symptom once a week, but now it is making it almost daily. This is a serious safety issue, and as I have seen in various forums, this is a very common complaint, Suzuki must issue a recall!!!!.
2006 Suzuki Forenza wagon issues so far: 63k - check engine light came on and a line through the d on the instrument panel showed up, which acts like the car is in neutral. When trying to accelerate the car has no power. If you pull over, turn the car off and restart it then the car is back to normal. It has done this 4 times now in the past 2 weeks. 60k - a couple of months ago the window washer pump went out and I had to replace it. I did it myself and it still cost me $85. Front seatbelt acts like it latches but then comes back out (this problem was recalled). 40k - the air bag light is also lit up on the car.
The contact owns a 2008 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that when driving at any speed, the vehicle would lunge forward and skip gears. The contact stated that the vehicle would act as if it were in limp mode and the check engine warning light was also illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 36,000 and the current mileage was 39,300.
2006 Suzuki Forenza.
The contact owns a 2007 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that when driving at any speed, the check engine warning light would illuminate intermittently followed by the vehicle violently jerking and shifting gears. The contact did not inform the dealer or manufacturer of the failure nor was the vehicle repaired. The current mileage was approximately 24,000.
2006 Suzuki Forenza. The check engine light keeps coming on. Also a "line" through the "d". Engines revs on acceleration, but acts as if in idle, then lurches forward. Has happened several times intermittently. Online research indicates this problem is widespread.
The contact owns a 2007 Suzuki Forenza. The contact was driving approximately 35 mph when the vehicle slightly jerked and decelerated independently. The contact stated that the failure recurred intermittently when driving at any speed. The contact was able to secure an appointment with the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 33,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that as she attempted to accelerate from a complete stop, the vehicle independently shifted into reverse. The shifter assembly gauge displayed that the vehicle was still in drive. The contact then applied the brakes and the vehicle was stopped. The contact stated that the failure occurred three additional times. The dealer was informed of the failure and stated that the range switch could possibly need replacing. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 57,900 and the current mileage was 58,140.
The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. While traveling 45 mph, the contact noticed that the vehicle would no longer accelerate. However after restarting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the failure had corrected itself. Prior to the failure, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the shift sensor was replaced twice. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000. The current mileage was approximately 158,000.
Transmission would sometimes slip what feels like neutral (no power) while in drive. Other times transmission would stay in drive and would not down shift auto or manual. Frequency is increasing. Cost at dealer is financially prohibitive at this time. Research indicates problem is common to this and prior year manufacture.
I own a 2006 Suzuki Forenza, the car has been nothing but problems, numerous trips back to the expensive dealership for repairs that just so happen to not be under warranty. My wife was driving on the interstate a couple of days ago and the car just stop going, she said it felt like the car just shut off. After pulling over on the side of the road, mind you now we have two small children, she called me and I told her to hold tight until I got there. It ends up being this transmission safety switch, which would you know is not covered under my powertrain warranty, pathetic. . . . . . . . . . . . . . This dealership and Suzuki are gonna keep nickel and dimming me until I am flat broke. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Signed fed up with Suzuki !.
The driver owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. While driving approximately 45 mph the vehicle stopped accelerating. It decelerated and would only drive at speeds lower than approximately 20 mph. The service warning lights also began to illuminate on the dashboard. The vehicle was stopped and shifted into park; upon shifting it back into drive the vehicle operated as normal. The failure continued to recur and the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the transmission switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Approximately one month later, the failure began to recur while driving approximately 45 mph for an extended period of time. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and it was repaired. She also stated that both front door handles were fractured from the interior. The failure was not diagnosed. The failure mileage was 27,000 and the current mileage was 30,000. Updated 02/08/lj the consumer also stated the door handle snapped off the vehicle. Updated 04/21/11.
The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. While driving at 50 mph, an unknown warning light illuminated and the vehicle was hesitant to accelerate. The dealer advised that transmission indicator would need to be replaced. There were no recalls for the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileages were 113,000.
On 4 different occasions when first starting the vehicle and applying the brakes to put into reverse the vehicle moved a few feet backwards. While owner had his foot firmly on the brake pedal. On may 15 2010 I drove to a shopping center I went to pull into a parking space. When the vehicle went forward very fast. There was a lot of damage to my vehicle another vehicle that was parked. When this happen the first 4 times the dealer said they could not find any thing wrong with the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2007 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that when starting the engine, the vehicle would abnormally accelerate. When the transmission was downshifted into 3rd gear, the vehicle would resume normal operation. The failure would occur intermittently. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were approximately 75,000.
I have a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. I bought it new, off the lot in york PA from a Suzuki dealer. About 3 months after my purchase, the car began bucking and when I took it to the dealer, they could not find anything wrong. Over the last 3 years, the car has continued to buck on cold mornings and after sitting for more than 24 hours. The car now has approximately 59,000 miles on it. Then, last week, as I was driving, the car suddenly lost power. The engine light came on and the "d" (for drive) began flashing at me but it had a line through it, making it look more like an "8". I had to floor the gas pedal to get the car to accelerate. I immediately took it to a local dealer (not a Suzuki dealer). They found that the transmission selector switch was bad. Over the past several days, I have read of other peoples' stories, very similar to mine. Had this problem happened on the highway, I could have been in a serious or even fatal accident. I am now going to have to put out a great deal of money to get this problem corrected.
About 2. 5 months after I purchased my car, I had to put a brand new transmission in it due to the shift sensor went bad. Now just after the warranty ran out it is bad again. This time I am going to drive the car till it dies and then scrap it. I don't have the money to fix it. Suzuki needs to figure out what is wrong with their cars, and fix it.

I have been reading all the comments on this car and I've had every one of them. . . I have a 2007 Suzuki forzena and my car problems started at about 25,000 miles. I have taken it in sooo many times with no resolve. The check engine light and tire pressure light still comes on every other day. I've had issues when I'm driving on the highway at 60 mph and the car would just decelerate down to 35 mph within a matter of seconds and no matter how much I pushed the pedal to accelerate to the floor it would not budge. . . This is very dangerous and I don't know why this company is still allowed to make cars. The "loaner" car that they say they give you in the warranty is a joke. We've had to rent our own cars and "wait" to be reimbursed. The dealerships they send you to cant find anything wrong with it. No matter what the problem with the car you still have to make your payments. . . . This car has too many problems!!!!.
The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle changed gears independently without warning. The failure began on January 9, 2010 and recurred three times within the weekend. The speed sensitive warning light illuminated after the vehicle changed gears. The contact was forced to shift the gears in drive 2 in order to drive forward. The vehicle will no longer shift into drive; however, the vehicle has to be driven in drive 3 to operate normally. The failure mileage was 37000.
Transmission range selector switch on the 2006 Suzuki Forenza is failing, and yet they do not consider this important enough to recall. Through searching, I have found many people who have complained about this switch going bad in their Forenza's. This switch is obviously defective, and initially would only "act up" about once a month, now it has progressed to once or more a week.
2006 Suzuki Forenza, brake sensor went out and car would not go out of park and into drive. I fixed that and then on December 19, 2009 I was drving down the highway and the car went out of drive and into neutral. I almost wrecked because I couldn't get the car back into drive to keep up with the flow of traffic. In a panic I put the car in 3rd gear and I was able to make it home. The mechanic has had the car for over a week trying to figure out what the problem is. This could have caused a serious accident.
At 36,000 miles, my check engine light came on in my Suzuki Forenza. It then went off. Soon, my car began to misfire and does not know the difference between reverse and neutral. At times, there is a line through the "d" (drive) on my dashboard (it's an automatic). I have read several other owners with this same problem. At times when traveling down the road, the car will shift itself into neutral.
Key cannot be removed after turning engine off. Re-started engine and changed gear. Could hear clicking but once returned to park was still unable to remove key. After 3 attempts of changing gears I was no longer able to go from park to any other gear.
I took my car into the dealership in the beginning of January 2008 for the 2 safety recalls to be repaired. The very next day my car struggled to shift 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. I called the dealership and told them what was going on and they set up an appointment for the next day. They drove the car and said it wasn't doing anything. So, I left the dealership and my car continued to do this. My car progressively got worse with the engine revving high and not wanting to shift gears. It eventually began jerking violently when trying to shift all gears! I made another appointment with Suzuki on February 26, 2008 and drove the car while the manager rode along with me. My car was having a very mild day as far as the jerking and hard shifting and only did it once while he was with me. They reset the computer part of the transmission and sent me on my way. Well, the very next day the car went right back to it's old way of jerking and shifting hard. On March 1, 2008 I was pulling out from a side road onto a main road and my car did not want to go! the engine just revved very high and wouldn't shift gears! I didn't know what to do other than to floor it! it eventually shifted gears and went on down the road. Now that I am doing a little more research I see that others are having similar problems (odi 10211177, odi 10145983, odi 10144874). I really feel like Suzuki is just trying to hold off until I pass the 36,000 mile mark so they don't have to worry about it. This vehicle is unsafe to drive and the dealership in my area does not give loaner cars anymore because of insurance liability reasons. Well, this is my only vehicle so I don't have a choice but to drive an unsafe vehicle. I really thought Suzuki's customer service was much better than this!.
Automatic car down-shift when u let up on gas.
When I first brought the car on 1/30/2006, it started giving me problems, such as not starting up, the engine light on and off all the time. The emergency brake light on constantly. The power windows rolling up and down by themselves. The power locks stop working and then work over and over again. When I'm driving, the car jerks and pulls all the time. (the pulling is coming from the transmission). I am a single mother of two and I feel real bad about getting stuck with a lemon. After I get out of school I take classes at night and my kids go to the daycare on campus when I picked them up after class, got in the car, started it up, and the front two windows rolled down by themselves, and would not roll up and it was snowing and we had to ride all the way home like that. The dealership doesn't care. As far as they are concerned, it is not their problem. It is a messed up world we live in where someone knows that you really need a car and they screw you with a lemon. Until this present day, all these problems described still exist but so do me and my son-3 and my daughter-6 if anybody can help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Steering wheel malfunction - loss of vehicle control and drove off the road manufacturer and car dealership did not help multiple other defects, including engine stalling/gears "sticking" - please refer details in letter to be sent to your office by mail.
The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated there are many defects with the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they stated all the failures are not cover under warranty and she has to pay out of pocket for all the repairs. The defective parts are the front and rear struts, throttle body, door handle and transmission range censor. The manufacturer was not contacted. The dealer informed her they contacted the manufacturer and was told the vehicle was not covered under the warranty and she would have to pay for all repairs. The failure mileage was 56,000.
