36 Suspension Noise problem of the 2016 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 07/10/2018

Tesla Model S 2016, vehicle is making a grinding noise from the left side and that the wheel appears to be too close to the wheel well. A noise started 2-3 days ago when the we try to turn the steering wheel to take a sharp left or right turn. The front suspension link on the driver side wheel broke while parking the car. Got the car towed to Tesla service and they fixed it 1 day later. Corrections: link - front suspension - lower - fore - lh replaced the left fore link to specification. Verified proper operation. 37 Suspension Noise problem of the 2016 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 02/27/2018

Here are two discussion threads in which Tesla owners report cracked suspension forelinks that happened on their cars and which were not the result of abuse or wear and tear but just sudden spontaneous fractures of the alloy parts. Https://teslamotorsclub. Com/tmc/threads/rattle-noise-coming-from-front-air-suspension. 108171/page-3#post-2589383 and https://teslamotorsclub. Com/tmc/threads/cracked-forelink. 95637/page-2 the latest post includes close up photographs of the broken part and also a photograph of the new replacement that Tesla supplied under warranty. The replacement part is an improved and stronger design. Why has there not been a recall? most cars are still driving around with the dangerously thin suspension links. Snip ** bill d, yesterday at 2:20 pm last edited: yesterday at 2:27 pm aromasca said: ↑ ugh, I had the exact same sound where I thought the wheel is rubbing. Do you have an air suspension or 21" wheels? how did you get access to check this part ? do you have to remove the wheel? I have air suspension and 19" wheels. No need to remove the wheel to see it. It is visible if you lay on the ground in front of the car. The part of my right front suspension that broke is called a fore link. The piece that broke off was laying in my driveway. This looks like this failure could have been very dangerous it it happened at a high speed. Here's some photos before and after warranty replacement of the fore link. ** photos are attached to this complaint. I am not an owner, just a concerned citizen. Owners are reluctant to report to authorities. Tesla is still making use of non disclosure agreements in return for providing repairs. Owners are dependent upon Tesla as they are the only place that can supply parts and do repairs. Please act before more people are killed. Thank you.

38 Suspension Noise problem of the 2015 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 02/23/2018

Broken front suspension fore link I noticed a clunking sound at slow speed when going over small bumps, so I stayed off the expressway and slowly drove home on local roads. After arriving home, I backed up while turning the wheels to the right and the car abruptly stopped as the back of the right front wheel jammed solid against the inside wheel well lining. The right front wheel was an inch or two back from where it should be. I looked under from the front bumper and saw that I had a cracked fore link and a piece of the fore link was laying in my driveway. I still have that broken piece. Tesla sent a flat bed truck to get the car and replaced the fore link. This failure sure looks like it could cause a serious accident. I feel very lucky this didn't break at high speed on the expressway in traffic or on a jug handle. The attached photos show the fore link before and after replacement.

39 Suspension Noise problem of the 2014 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

Here is yet another report of a Tesla suspension collapsing and sending the car veering across the road: https://teslamotorsclub. Com/tmc/threads/urgent-spontaneous-suspension-failure-lack-of-Tesla-support. 97394/ snip - enumc, Saturday at 10:22 pm hi everyone! does anyone have any experience with Tesla repairs? we were driving on the freeway when our Model S suddenly started swerving after an initial loud sound. There's nothing on the road, and we had to drive the vehicle off the freeway without hitting other vehicles. Luckily, no one got hurt, but we rolled off the side of the freeway onto an exit ramp. The local repair shop that highway patrol tolled to informed us that this is a suspension failure. We were driving at around 60mph when this happened. We contacted Tesla support, who said they will take a look at the issue, but they are still trying to evade talking to us about the exact issue after a month with no updates. They informed us they have "escalated" the issue over a week ago, but no updates at all. Could we get some suggestions on what we should do from fellow Tesla owners? I am completely lost at this point. The wheel seems to have caved ******* I am reporting this in the public interest as it is obvious from the discussion in that forum that the owner will not be reporting it himself. He is being pressured by the forum posters and also by Tesla who want him to sign an agreement so that he takes over responsibility for the repair. A photograph of the Tesla with a whompy wheel is attached.

40 Suspension Noise problem of the 2015 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 08/05/2017

I am filing this complaint on behalf of the owner who has indicated that she has not yet filed a complaint and may not do so if she is satisfied with the response from Tesla. Here is the discussion thread: https://teslamotorsclub. Com/tmc/threads/cracked-forelink. 95637/ snip : jenniferq, Saturday at 7:15 pm was driving yesterday on the freeway in ap in heavy traffic with 3 kids in the car, and the car stops suddenly and successfully, but then a terrible sound emanates from the left front wheel. Kids crying so I pull off the freeway thinking something is caught on the wheel/tire to find the back of the lf wheel well cover lifted up and pressing against the tire. Once roadside gets there, the tech shows me how the "a arm" has split and come off of the ball joint and dropped down and is interfering with the wheel. Wow! service was exceptional. I was about 1 hour away from the nearest service center in Friday afternoon traffic, but roadside and a loaner Tesla (o. G. From 2011, so now I understand a lot more about the posts from before 2015!) showed up and we were back on our way out of town within about an hour. But, this could have been a serious accident. I wonder what caused the failure. The Tesla tech says maybe improper torqueing of the forelink. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else? my car has almost 30k miles and has had no other mechanical issues. Very unnerving, to say the least, at what could have been a serious accident if we'd been going at speed and the suspension had come apart like this then. Thoughts?.

41 Suspension Noise problem of the 2016 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 07/28/2017

Here is yet another instance of a Tesla suspension failure. Please investigate this major defect. Https://teslamotorsclub. Com/tmc/threads/serious-problem-with-my-2016-model-s. 95065/ I have owned my 2016 Model S for just over one year (25k miles) and have been a huge fan of Tesla. I like reading the forums and have been a very happy owner. However, I was driving home with my wife from church this morning and the car had a potentially life threatening failure. I began noticing a "thud" type sound on normal road bumps on my drive home, and when I slowed turning into my development and pressed on the brakes to slow down the car, it began making a shrill sound and the car began jumping up and down. I pulled over and noticed that it looks like something completely fell off the front driver's side axel or turning apparatus (I'm not very knowledgeable about car parts!) has anyone else experienced this? I am hoping this is an anomaly as I really love my Tesla, but if this would have happened on the highway or on autopilot I can't imagine things ending well for me and my family. I am very happy to be safe at home. I will reach out to service Monday am to get this fixed. I am attaching a picture of what I saw in the front passenger side wheel where something seems to have completely come off the cars suspension.

42 Suspension Noise problem of the 2013 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 09/13/2016

Ball joint on front left upper control arm assembly failed prematurely at approximately 80,000 miles vehicle usage; specifically, it separated so as to cause the uca (upper control arm) to disconnect from from the steering knuckle during a low-speed parking lot maneuver (three point 'y' turn) at approximately 5 mph or less, which caused the wheel to tip in words against the strut assembly. Repaired suspension by replacing upper control arm with integral ball joint. Approximately 40,000 miles later, the ball joint on the right hand upper control arm exhibited extreme looseness and clunking sounds forcing me to replace the rh uca / ball joint on that side as well. Vehicle now has approximately 150,000 miles vehicle usage and the suspension is once again exhibiting abnormal clunking noise (from the lh front corner) over bumps at low speeds that makes me suspicious that additional or same ball joints are wearing prematurely. I am a professional mechanical engineer (with 27 years industry experience) responsible for propulsion systems on agricultural harvesting vehicles and can definitively state I have never abused this vehicle. The wear rates are excessive on the uca ball and socket connection which does/could cause ball joint separation and suspension function/control.
