I was driving my Tesla Model X in interstate i35 with fsd turned on. After 45 minutes of fsd, I felt the car slowed down. I immediately push the accelerator to speed it up but it didn't help and the car quickly fully stopped. I again pushed accelerator but the car won't move at all and my car block one of the two lanes of north bound i35 in gainesville area. I was forced to reboot the car as the car won't move. Several minutes later, the car finally rebooted successfully and I immediately drove to exit i35. As I had no idea why the car stopped itself so I didn't feel to continue driving it and had the car towed back. From the trip data on my phone, it shows "hard breaking" prior to all this abnormal happened. I am sure that no break panel was pushed as my foot is on the floor mat as the car was driven by the fsd. The most serious problem is I couldn't speed it up after the car "hard breaking" itself and I had to reboot the car in order to make the car moving. I have the car service by Tesla but they don't have any explanation for me yet. It will be difficult to reproduce the problem. It can only be found by Tesla by looking into the stored driving data.

When driving at highway speed and using cruise control, the car periodically applies its brakes. Sometimes it will only do so for a second or two, then return to the cruise control speed; other times it will continue longer and I will have to intervene by applying pressure to the accelerator pedal. In shorter "phantom braking" episodes the speed may only be reduced by five or ten miles per hour; in longer episodes it could drop by twenty miles per hour before I intervene. I have driven the car for almost three months and have experienced this no fewer than twenty times. To be fair, I have driven almost nine thousand miles during that time, so I have spent a considerable amount of time on highways. When communicating with Tesla's service department, I received a reply message reading, in part: ". . . Slowdowns for apparently no reason are generally caused by a few reasons . . . This can easily be overridden by pressing the accelerator pedal . . . There are no faults with any of the driver assistance hardware in the vehicle . . . These behaviors are a limitation of software in the system . . . A service visit is not needed at this time. " I have owned cars for almost forty years and have never had these issues while using cruise control. That Tesla finds this acceptable is absolutely not acceptable. I believe it is an unsafe condition, as I have no control over drivers behind me and how they may act in the case of my car decelerating for no apparent reason.

The contact owns a 2023 Tesla Model X. The contact stated that while attempting to park the vehicle in a parking lot, the vehicle independently accelerated and crashed into a supermarket door without warning. The air bags deployed upon impact. The contact was taken to the hospital for a checkup but did not sustain any injuries; no other injuries were reported. A police report was filed. The supermarket door was damaged as a result of the accident. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it remained in their possession. Recently, the contact received a notification of NHTSA campaign number: 23v679000 (electrical system; service brakes, hydraulics) which was linked to the vehicle failure. The contact called the dealer in reference to the recall and was informed that part remained on backorder. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100. Parts distribution disconnect.
When using cruise control the car decides to randomly hard-brake dropping instantly 40+ mph or it increases speed higher than the set cruise control for no reason. We literally have had our bodies slammed into the seats during braking and we will inevitably be rear-ended for this faulty “phantom” braking. We submitted a service request to Tesla on 5/18/23 and were told there’s nothing to be done because it’s in beta testing. This is dangerous and unacceptable. Almost all new cars have adaptive cruise and those other brands have figured this out. Tesla ignoring this and basically saying “it’s not our fault” is irresponsible.

Repeatedly, I have had my car brake harshly when travelling anywhere from 30-55 mph while using adaptive cruise control. There is nevere anything in the road or a car anywhere nearby to warrant a dramatic braking. The decelertion is harsh and alomst caused someone behind me to hit me on 2 occasions. I have repeatedly told Tesla about this and mostly gotten a nebulous response about "hardware" or 'software" issues and that they are working on it. This is dangerous and hurts when it unexpectedly happens!!.

Random phantom braking while on the open freeway with no traffic while in cruise control. It happened multiple times while on a road trip. There was not an obstacle or traffic in front of us. Braking was hard almost to a skid.
The windshield wipers, which are automatic only do absolutely nothing when it is raining. The only thing I can do is hit a button on the steering wheel each time I need the wipers to clear the windshield. Tesla claims is it working as intended. . . Which apparently is not at all. When it began raining the last time I drove the car, it was nighttime and I had to stop in the middle of the road because the car gets overwhelmed when you hit the wiper button too many times in a row and it stops wiping entirely. This is very unsafe. And here is the much worse issue. The automatic emergency braking triggers randomly all the time. If there is a shadow across the road, it might slam on the brakes. If there is an overpass, it might slam on the brakes. If there is nothing in front of you on a perfectly straight freeway with no other vehicles around, it might slam on the brakes out of nowhere. I just drove this car 60 miles today and had 6 braking events where it went from 60-70 mph to 30 mph or less. A few of these incidents happened with cars directly behind me. This car is going to cause me to be injured when it suddenly stops for no reason and a driver behind me cannot react in time. It needs to be recalled or taken off the road. One of the braking events was so sudden and harsh that the tires squealed for a moment. Also, this is my 4th Tesla. The first three had none of these issues. The latest one is dangerous to the point that I am not comfortable driving it anymore.
When autopilot is engaged, the car randomly decelerates on the highway. This has happened multiple times. I have tried to report this to Tesla but to no avail. They tell me the following: 1. They are unaware of any issue 2. Then, it is my specific car's problem and not a design issue and they will not fix it without charging me over a $1100 3. When I asked them what the issue is, they said they don't know and want me to provide to the minute detail on when the incident happened. 4. That I should stop using autopilot (which I paid for) because it may be unsafe for me to use. When I point out that their statements are conflicting with each other, they ignore me. I have tweeted about this to elon musk as well to NHTSA and I am hoping that someone will notice this and help me get this fixed.

While driving in the carpool lane with my mother in law to work with my wife, the car abruptly activated the brakes while in auto steer mode and necessitated my immediate slamming on the gas to increase my speed to avoid a rear collision.

Hi, the car isnt allowing me to drive because I get a notification saying "parking brake not applied, vehicle may free roll". It's been getting worse each day. I see that Tesla recalled this issue for models from October and older. My Model X is a November baby however I believe the calipers are the same from the October and older models. Please help -stavros 3479358986.
The contact owns a 2019 Tesla model-x. The contact stated while at a traffic signal, he had stopped past the painted line on the roadway. The contact then shifted into reverse (r) to pull back from the traffic line, as the contact had began to depress the accelerator, the accelerator pedal dropped to the floor board and the vehicle accelerated backward at an approximated 15 mph and crashed into the front end of a vehicle behind him. The contact stated that he had depressed the brake with force, the vehicle slowed but seemed to continue to want to move at speed in reverse. The contact had slowed enough and shifted the vehicle into drive (d), however the vehicle now accelerated forward to approximately 60 mph. The contact ran the traffic signal and depressed the brake with strength to stop. The vehicle had continued to gain speed, the contact then stopped depressing the brake pedal and the accelerator and the vehicle began to slow on it's own after having traveled several blocks. The contact stated he had not noticed any warning lights due to the panic situation. The contact steered the vehicle into a parking lot and was able to stop. The contact noticed that the accelerator was still flat against the floorboard and that a coiled spring was lying under the accelerator. The contact stated that the vehicle he had crashed into had given chase and followed him to the parking lot. The contact stated that his vehicle had dents and scrapes on the bumper, the other vehicle had similar damage and there were no injuries. The police were not called. The contact had the vehicle towed to his residence. The contact had called the manufacturer who declined to send an investigator to inspect the vehicle. The contact had the vehicle towed to a repair shop, however it had not been diagnosed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000.
When using autopilot (handsfree) feature, it brakes automatically. In some cases, there is no car in front of it and applies short brake automatically. During bottleneck traffic it gets worst, applies throbbing hard brake and due to excessive hard braking rotors/pads are going bad very often. Whatever is on your seats, will be on the floor and feels like you are having a stroke. Due to the defect in autopilot feature, rotors/pads are going bad and need to spend lot of money replacing them. As Tesla service centers are pretty expensive. Attached is the invoice. I feel that brake pads/rotors/labor should be all covered under Tesla warranty. Autopilot feature is very dangerous to use and it also creates lot of stress when the feature is engaged. One of the location/time stamp sharing it below, pretty sure Tesla can pull it off from their history as well. There was no car in front and it just applied hard brake: Dec 7th 2022 at 10:10 am. Coordinates: 40°42’03. 5”n74°09’15. 7”w (pr2w+97r newark, new jersey (40. 700977,-74. 1543580).
Phantom breaking occurs predictably in the same spots along the NJ garden state parkway. Most certainly I have noticed it and can easily replicate it around the toms river exit 80 in both south and north bound lanes. The vehicle will break suddenly and abruptly when enhanced autopilot or self-driving is engaged. It will come to a complete stop if allowed even when there is absolutely no other vehicles or obstacles in front of it which would justify breaking. It has happened during the day and even late at night when the road is void of vehicles. This same behavior also occurs further south on the gsp I believe around exit 50 but I can't recall with precision on that one.
2022 Model X plaid is exhibiting “ phantom braking” while in autopilot mode using navigation. Vehicle abruptly brakes while driving on highway as navigation appears to become confused and thinks it is on a side street. Vehicle goes from high speeds of 70-80 mph, down to 30-40 mph. If was being followed closely, car behind Tesla would have collided with rear of vehicle. This has occurred 10+ times since purchased vehicle in February. Vehicle has just under 6000 mi. As of today. I have times/dates to include a video of one incident. I have brought it to Tesla for service on 2 separate occasions, to no avail. They say it needs the latest upgrade, which has not resolved issue.

Highly repeatable issue: driving on left lane of a highway going at high speed (60) with adaptive cruise control enabled (but * full self drive mode). Put on turn signal to merge into right lane. There was a car in the right lane directly next to me but I had not initiated the merge, was merely signaling my intent to merge. My car slammed on the breaks (very dangerous as I was almost rear ended the first time by a 18 wheeler). Did some testing at a later date- if there is a car slightly ahead of me in the right lane, the car behaves normally (maintains speed) if there is a car in my blind spot, the car indicates there is someone in my blind spot but maintains speed. If I am driving in the left lane all three scenarios (slightly ahead, directly adjacent, in blind spot) the car maintains appropriate speed. It is only when car is directly adjacent when in left lane w/ right turn signal that car always now will slam on brakes. Very dangerous- Tesla has been made aware of the issue 2x now- and had informed me that “it is beta software (?????!!!!!!) and to live with it. ”.
Was pulling out of the starbucks drive thru when the car accelerated quickly on it's own. The brakes also failed. The vehicle only stopped after hitting a tree and a light pole. Very dangerous situation as this occurred in the morning when starbucks is busy. State farm insurance is in possession of the car currently. We are awaiting their findings. Police report is also pending. I did not see a warning indicator on the car or any indications of any problems. However, the car had been serviced frequently for different issues with Tesla. After the accident, Tesla offered no assistance regarding finding out if there was a safety issue and said we were on our own.
On 8/16/2022 Tuesday, I went to work at about 10:24 and parked by the road next to mcdonalds to call my husband. I wanted him to take the car to park elsewhere as that spot had no parking starting at 10:30. My husband was not available so I was about to move the car and had my feet slightly touching the brake. At that point the car suddenly accelerated and jumped forward without any control and hit a car that was coming out of mcdonalds driveway. That car was about 15/20 feet away from my car and I hit on the driver’s side. My car was in such speed that it pushed the other car 6 feet on the other side which in turn hit a pedestrian crossing the road. I am 100% sure that I did not press the accelerator and the car moved by itself in such force that I had no chance of controlling it. I’ve asked Tesla to investigate as well.
The model s and x has a recall for vehicles from 2015 to October 2016 builds. The recall is about the "parking break not released" when shifting to drive. My Model X is built in November 2016 and occasionally gets the warning of "parking break not released" from time to time. I would like to aware you guys and to please look into this issue that im facing. It may help if you guys over at NHTSA can look into what parking break part numbers are installed on models earlier than my November 2016 built. Thanks!.
Travelling at highway speed with cruise control on, the brakes came on hard as if there was an upcoming collision, slowing the car by 25-30 mph. But there was no car or obstacle ahead of mine. I was able to immediately accelerate back to speed without further incident. And fortunately, the cars behind me were able to slow down without hitting me. This is the third (3rd) time this has happened. The previous was less than two weeks ago on city streets without cruise control and I don't remember the first which happened shortly after getting the car in March 2022. I noticed that others have had a similar experience, which led me to submit this report.
I was driving my Tesla on left line of i75 norh with 70 miles speed. It was on autopilot . Without any warning car lost the control and slipped, changed three lines and collide at the right side median . It’s happened on 3 July 2022. I reported the accident to Tesla right away. The accident took place more than 6 months and still Tesla is saying they are studying the car and not giving a clear report. So the repair people doesn’t know how to fix it and I am out of car. Please investigate the case and help me to get a report so that I can fix the car.
Many instances of hard braking in cruise control with no cause. In the last 6 months it’s gotten very bad. It only happened very infrequently before when someone was turning off the freeway it would brake for just a second. Now it is braking hard in an extended fashion and multiple times in one trip. Sometimes we can see some reason, sometimes not. Once, traveling 75 mph passing a large truck in the lane to my right, the brakes slammed on very hard. Fortunately, I had both hands on the wheel and avoiding crashing into him and the car be him me was far enough back to not hit me. Many other smaller instances, but today doing about 45-50 mph the brakes slammed on hard, didn’t release, and I had to steer to the left and hit the accelerator to avoid hitting a biker. I think the Tesla may have been reacting to the biker. I will not use cruise control any longer until it is fixed. It is terrifying and it’s just a matter of time until something really bad happens.
On several the vehicle suddenly automatically brakes and warns there is an obstacle ahead when there is no such obstacle. Happens often on curved roads but also on straight always or even freeway with no vehicle or obstacle to be seen. Estimate it happens several times a month/a time or two a week.
While on cruise control (autopilot) on the highway, the vehicle occasionally violently slows down. The majority of the time, this happens near or just before an exit/entrance ramp and if the car is in the rightmost lane. It happens regardless of traffic conditions and even if there are zero cars around, it will still "hiccup" and hit the brakes. I've noticed that the cruise control system sometimes automatically changes the maximum speed for the cruise control to 35-45 mph which explains the sudden braking. It is semi-replicable by setting the cruise control to a comfortable highway speed (say 65 mph) while the car is in the rightmost lane, then driving past a (normally) heavily trafficked entry/exit merging area. If requested, I can probably find a safe time and area to replicate this and send in my dashcam footage of the incident.

The vehicle brakes are aggressively applied at random times when traveling on the freeway. This only appears to happen when the vehicles tacc (traffic aware cruise control) is enabled. Thankfully I have not been rear ended yet. My family's safety is in danger when tacc is enabled. Not only am I concerned we could be rear ended, but I am concerned someone could think I am "brake checking" them and then proceed to act violently (road rage). There is a particular stretch of highway where this happens 100% of the time that would allow me to reproduce the occurrence on demand for investigative purposes.
On may 15. 2022 at 4:25pm while traveling north on highway 395 about 14 miles south of bishop californa. While traveling with little to no traffic, using adaptive cruise control (not self driving) the vehicle suddenly stopped for no apparent reason in the middle of the highway. Fortunately, there were no cars behind us otherwise I probably would not be writing this. I have registered a similar complaint back in March for the same issue. We have had a total of 4 “phantom braking” incidents since buying the car in October 2021.
Starting on may 5, 2022, my car has been plagued with numerous errors messages that stated multiple features of my car were malfunctioning/disabled, both while I first got into the car, and also occurring suddenly without any warning while the car was in motion on the road. This included loss of power steering, traction control, stability control, parking brake, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure avoidance . The same problem(loss of all these vital features) has recurred many times on may 22nd, may 31st, July 8th, and most recently, September 14th. Each time I brought the car in to the Tesla service center, they would have absolutely no idea what was causing the same exact issues. At the very first visit, they stated the incorrect-sized tires were likely the culprit. Even after the correct sized tires were put on, the same problems returned weeks later. Another time they replaced the mcu, but again the problem returned. Every time I brought the car in, they would basically return the car with no definitive repairs done as by the time they started working on my car, all the errors had disappeared, and they would declare the car as being "fixed". After 5 visits for the same exact problem over the past 5 months, it is extremely clear that Tesla has no idea what is wrong with the car, and keeps returning the car to me without permanently solving the problem. At this point, I feel this car should not be on the road as I could lose vital controls(power steering, brakes, etc) all of a sudden with no warning, exposing the passengers inside, and all vehicles and pedestrians around it to serious, life-threatening danger. Despite this grave risk, Tesla has refused to buy the car back even though it still has an active factory warranty, claiming that it is past the two-year buy-back window, and the fact that it already has a lemon title(for a completely different issue) from 2019. It is just a matter of time before a serious accident happens.
Hello, my Tesla Model X has been bothering my family for 2 years because of the potential hidden danger of the brakes. My other vehicles have never encountered these problems. I don’t know what words to use to express my helplessness and helplessness.
Vehicle repeatedly applied the brakes while on cruise control. This sometimes seemed to be a response to other vehicles approaching in the oncoming traffic lane, but sometimes seemed totally unexpected. Once, the vehicle even sounded the collision alarm when no collision danger was present. If someone had been following me closely, the inexplicable braking could have caused an accident. A search of Tesla forums shows this is a common problem with these vehicles.
Our Tesla has had the “phantom braking” on 3 occasions. The first incident happened on southbound interstate 5 near firebaugh. Right after we purchased the car. The car suddenly stopped from 70 mph to about 25 mph in the middle of the freeway. The second event on northbound 395 at 2:45pm 3/20/2022the car went from about 60 mph to about 25 with out warning. It happened once again at about 4:03pm the same day. All of these events occurred while the car was in adaptaive cruise control, it in self driving mode. I have one event on video, that showed skid marks ahead at the same time the braking occurred.
While driving the electronic systems that monitor the brakes as well as traction control malfunction. It happened multiple times. At one point, the steering wheel was not operable. The brakes became inoperable. I had it towed to the Tesla service center where they said they corrected it. However, upon getting the car back it happened again. Car is very unsafe to drive when all systems shut down.
Experienced repeated phantom breaking and unwarranted early collision warnings.
I was driving down a ramp and the emergency brake engaged, causing all of my belongings in my passenger seat and rear seat to fly off the seat. It felt like whiplash and my daughter was in the backseat as well. The next day, I had severe neck and upper back pain to the point that I couldn’t move. I am seeking care with a chiropractor.
While on autopilot at highway speeds, car randomly and suddenly brakes rapidly for no reason. Happens during day, at night, on different roads, in different conditions. No warning lights or alarms.
