Steering problem #1

After installing the most recent Tesla software update, my vehicle immediately displayed multiple alerts: traction control disabled, stability control disabled, and reduced steering assist. Cameras were disabled, navigation was disabled and my vehicle location was wrong. The vehicle lost core safety systems that are critical to safe driving the car functioned normally before the update. Immediately afterward, these safety systems were disabled. Tesla service has since diagnosed and confirmed, they state “an internal short within the drive assistance module (computer). The internal short is causing excessive current draw, resulting in loss of driver assistance features. The latest software has revealed the underlying root issue within the car computer. ” this indicates that the vehicle was operating with a latent defect that Tesla’s diagnostic update exposed. The update did not cause wear-and-tear failure; it surfaced a hidden safety defect inside Tesla’s own hardware. Why this is a safety concern loss of traction control, stability control, and steering assist creates a significant risk of loss of vehicle control. If this had occurred while driving at speed, the sudden loss of these systems could have led to an accident. Attempting a reboot while driving (Tesla’s standard troubleshooting suggestion) would have created further distraction and risk. Luckily when the car catastrophically failed and was unable to turn, I was in my driveway and not on a highway or any other roads.

Steering problem #2

Accident involving my Tesla while the full self-driving (fsd) feature was engaged. Vehicle information: [2022, model - y, ] incident summary: while driving with fsd engaged, the vehicle hydroplaned and the steering wheel started spinning uncontrollably and despite attempts, couldn't regain control of the car, and it spun while crossing lanes. A truck hit the front of the car and ended up on shoulder.

Steering problem #3

[xxx] [xxx] when I entered [xxx] from los angeles airport using the [xxx], I was going about 30 miles per hour when I finished entering and was climbing the left curve to return to the sharing lane, when suddenly the steering wheel turned to the left by itself and I almost hit the wall. If I hadn't turned the steering wheel back hard, I think the car would have crashed into the wall. The dashcam footage is also available. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Steering problem #4

Steering consistently made rattling/clicking noises, coming from under near the steering column. Car was taken to Tesla service center, and service center replaced the front lower lateral and compliance link assemblies due to worn bushings. For additional context, this car has only 38,000 miles on the odometer, driven primarily in southern California.

Steering problem #5

The contact owns a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated that while washing the vehicle, the contact became aware that the entire inner sidewall of the tires were warped and damaged, and the tpms warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that a cause for failure could not be determined; however, the tires were replaced and the front-end aligned. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted, and the contact became aware that the tires displayed inner sidewall damages. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 21,000.

Steering problem #6

The car will continue losing power steering while driving making it very hard to steer. It has happened at all levels of speed.

Steering problem #7

Driver side control arm while driving separated. I heard a loud thump and then the front driver side portion of the vehicle drop down. After further investigation, I have seen numerous vehicles have this exact same issue on multiple forums. I’m glad that I was going slow when this happened because it could’ve been catastrophic if I would’ve been going faster. How is this not a recall?.

Steering problem #8

Model: telsa y 2022 awd long range what component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? control arm bolt fell from driver side front wheel. Not available for inspection. Bolt got fixed by Tesla service center how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? yes I imagine. Since I was driving in community driveway with less < 10 mph. I was safe. If this happens in highway, it would be big risk since steering gets locked and only one wheel rotates. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? this same issue has been reported mulitple times by other car owners over internet. As per dealer, this issue cannot be produced by him. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? component has been inspected only by the Tesla service center. No one else looked into it. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no warnings or indications. Car still doesn't know that it has a problem with front wheel or steering.

Steering problem #9

When driving home and try to make a left turn, the steering doesn't work and car suddenly speed up even though try to brake, the whole car is out of control, and the car hit my neighbor, and it's extremely dangerous! thank god that no one is hurt. Police came and did a report but didn't say anything about Tesla. After that, I checked the alert history, nothing special, the only alert is remind me that window cleaner is running low. I tried to contact Tesla but failed, no one answer the phone call, no where to report. Everything is too bad.

Steering problem #10

Two incidents: 1) non-accident: my wife was slowing to make a right turn at a stop light and the steering locked up for about 3 seconds, where she wasn't able to regain manual steering control. We did not have full self-driving mode at the time. Luckily, she was only going about 10 mph, and was able to brake before running into oncoming traffic. 2) accident: our son was driving on a country road, along a section with a slight curve. We had a free trial for full self-driving mode during the previous month, but it ended two weeks before the accident, so he could not have had it in self-driving mode. It appears that he didn't make the curve, but as evidenced by a single long tire skid mark, continued almost perfectly straight, across the oncoming lane, and ran into a redwood tree. The car rolled and ended up upside down, against the bank back on the right side of the road, with the lithium batteries on fire. Our son and his passenger sustained severe injuries and neither has a memory of what caused the accident. Naturally we suspect the possibility that the steering locked up again. But it also seems likely that the aeb and abs were not functioning correctly, as if they were, there should have been several short skid marks for the tires on both sides of the car, rather than only a single long skid mark. Additionally, there's no shoulder on that road, and there is a clump of bushes that come very close to the white line, so it's possible that a steering auto-correct initiated the incident. We have not yet been able to recover edr or log data from the vehicle.

Incident report: Model Y autopilot anomaly incident details: date and time: April 18th, 2024, approximately 11:44 am pst location: I-405 northbound vehicle: 2022 Model Y autopilot setting: full autopilot engaged at 65 miles per hour description: while driving my Model Y on I-405 northbound, I experienced a sudden and unexpected event. As I reached for a bag containing an apple, the car abruptly veered left toward the middle concrete divider that separates the southbound and northbound lanes. The impact resulted in a noticeable scratch sound as the car brushed against the divider. Challenging autopilot behavior during this incident, I felt like I was wrestling with the autopilot system. It took approximately 7 seconds of back-and-forth struggle before I regained control of the vehicle. Fortunately, there were no other cars nearby, and both the car and I remained unharmed. The outcome felt like a true miracle. Summary in summary, the autopilot system executed a sudden maneuver without any prior warning. The experience left me shaken, and I continue to have nightmares about what had happened. I have saved 4 videos which recorded the accident.

Steering problem #12

Driving in traffic this afternoon, I was turning right at a controlled intersection. I stopped my car during the turn before entering the stream of right-bound traffic. Abruptly my steering wheel was frozen: I was unable to turn the steering wheel and the car would not drive forward. There had been a dash warning light on with the message: 'steering assist reduced!'. This message had been coming on intermittently during the past several weeks while driving, but without any noticeable change in the steering/handling of the car. I was blocking the traffic behind me. I called 911 and requested assistance. I got out of my car to open the "frunk" lid to alert drivers that my vehicle was disabled. I got back into the car. At some point during the 5-10 minutes that I was stopped, I re-entered my code and put the car back in drive mode and suddenly the steering wheel worked and I was able to drive home (about 2 miles). I contacted Tesla service and they suggested that I have it towed to the nearest service center, which I did.

Steering problem #13

Steering got locked stating that assistive driving was reduced. We were in front of our house and my wife was driving. She said that steering is basically unusable so we pulled back in the driveway. Normal restarts didn't fix it. We then did a hard restart of the car and that fixed it but it was scary and accident prone when locked "assistive driving reduced".

Steering problem #14

I was driving the car in a straight lane. I missed a speed bump but the car was still driving straight. After 100-150 feet driving ahead, the car suddenly steered the wheel completely towards the right side resulting in an accident where the car crashed into a wall.

Steering problem #15

By ~10:30pm, 01/19/2024, my testla y 2022 lost power steering at the intersection of baxter Ave and broadway, elmhurst, NY 11373. I was making left turn and found my car could only slightly turn left since the power steering was basically lost, almost being hit by a red sedan. There was a yellow sign on my testa computer: "steering assist reduced. Steering may require increased effort". About midnight, 01/19/2024, I called the roadside assistance of Tesla, informing them what went wrong.

Steering problem #16

Due to NHTSA recall number 23v-838, the car has become more dangerous than before. Often making me apply more force on the wheel when constantly alerting me which has inadvertently made me swerve into oncoming lanes. Not only has this mandatory recall made the autopilot experience much worse, but it seems highly politicized by the previous leader of nhsta and should be reinvestigated. This is such a failure of over regulation over biased leadership and should not be tolerated.

Steering problem #17

The incident happened on 12/22/2024 8:30 am to 8:40am. Weather: heavy foggy. On freeway, no raining. Road was dry. Autopilot was off. I was trying to change lane to 2nd lane (I was in 3rd lane) and I saw a white pickup truck suddenly changed lane to the 2nd lane from 1st lane, so I turned my steering to left quickly (speed was 55-60 miles) and back to 3rd lane, and then suddenly the steering wheel was out of control, the steering wheel was turning right - left many times quicky and tilting the car. It just happened so quickly (not even a second) I wasn't able control the steering. After 3-5 seconds, it stopped. The steering was back to normal. I kept the car in 3rd lane. I almost got killed. I am glad I am still alive because it's christmas holiday, not many cars on freeway in the early morning. Many cars behind me stayed away from me when they saw my car was out of control. I reported the incident to the Tesla manufacturer, they said they checked computer log remotely and nothing wrong, just something related to wheel slips and then cancelled my service request. I didn't know if there was any warning lamps or messages pop up because I was so scared at the moment and forgot to check.

Steering problem #18

I was driving at 64 mph utilizing the adaptive cruise control and autosteer (beta). I was in the first of a two lane divided highway with no vehicles within 1000 feet in front of me and several cars passing me on my left. Fortunately, I had both hands on the wheel at the 10 and 2 positions and have good arm strength. Suddenly, abruptly and violently the car took over the steering and braking swerving to the left about a foot or so then applying the brakes hard while simultaneously turning the front wheels about 65 degrees to the right. I believe another vehicle without the Tesla's low center of gravity would surly have rolled over. I was now heading across the breakdown lane towards the guardrail. With great effort I took over control of the steering just 1-2 feet from the guardrail pulling hard left and pressing down on the accelerator (to release the brakes) causing a second roll over feeling. I then turned right to straighten the car out and continued down the highway in the same lane without contacting any objects. I felt the violent nature of the swerving in my lower back and left arm. The car did not want to release the steering to me. I have no evidence other than the experience of my wife and me. I was coming off a white concrete bridge deck with a slight left curve without any lane markings. At the moment of the incident the bridge deck was covered with a large area of black tar. I believe these two factors caused the car to go into some kind of avoidance maneuver. I also believe a lesser capable driver may have been killed.

Steering problem #19

I was driving my Tesla Model Y on the highway and suddenly the steering wheel turn 90 degrees and crash my driver side with the back of the car in the lane to the right. The night before the accident there was a system update for the car. No warning were made by the car.

Steering problem #20

Steering wheel locked and get error message ul_a020.

Steering problem #21

I received a power steering reduced notice on the car screen and the power steering failed. Restarting the car resolved the issue. There was a technician present when this occurred and he could not discover why it happened. If I had been driving at high speeds I would have crashed.

Steering problem #22

While stopped at a stoplight, the assisted steering feature stopped working. It was incredibly difficult to steer my car safely off the street, and was fortunate to not end up in an accident. I took my car to Tesla to be serviced, and they told me that they couldn’t re-create it, and it was most likely a one time issue, disregarding that other Teslas have been recalled for a similar issue.

Steering problem #23

The contact owns a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated that while driving at 10 mph, the steering became locked in place, and he briefly lost control of the vehicle before it returned to normal functionality. Upon arriving at his destination and attempting to park the vehicle, it failed to shift into reverse. The contact also stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle briefly took control of the steering and jerked into the next lane before he was able to regain control. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 13,000.

Steering problem #24

State unknown when I was driving in the freeway from (sacramento to bay area) last Saturday (09/16/2023) around 6:15pm in I 80 with my friend and tried to change the auto pilot mode/cruise control, immediately the vehicle severely steered and vehicle about to go left side and right side in a couple of seconds ( I thought almost lost control). Luckily got he control back. It was about to crash into another lane and luckily no vehicles were nearby. I searched the issues and found out that this issue already reported by many people.

Steering problem #25

My vehicle encountered a severe loss of control, resulting in a collision with a concrete wall on I-90 west towards seattle at 19,877 miles. This critical event, leading to non-deployment of airbags and subsequent hospitalization, occurred shortly after two prior services addressing a rear drive motor unit malfunction, first at 14,768 miles and again at 14,820 miles. These incidents underscore a troubling pattern of safety concerns. Inspection details: front suspension: replacement of stabilizer bar link (1188391-00-b). Steering gear: replacement of steering gear assembly (1044831-00-h), essential for control. Sub-frame & steering components: reinstallation of the sub-frame and replacement of the tie rod end (1044841-00-e), indicating significant structural and steering issues. Safety risks: the sequence of malfunctions, particularly the recurring issues with the rear drive motor unit followed by a severe loss of control and airbag system failure, presents an extreme safety risk. The absence of warnings prior to these failures compounds the danger, suggesting systemic safety and reliability flaws. Conclusions & reporting: the vehicle's history of critical malfunctions within a short mileage interval demands an in-depth examination by the manufacturer and safety regulatory authorities. The objective is to uncover root causes, evaluate if these issues are widespread among similar models, and implement corrective actions promptly. This report aims to highlight the critical nature of the encountered safety issues, advocating for immediate interventions to safeguard vehicle occupants and the public.

Steering problem #26

Tesla refused my lemon law surrender and claims there's nothing wrong with the car once again, big surprise! they messed up my dashcam during fake service regardless of legally consenting to being video and audio recorded (very clear notice stickers on the doors) when entering the vehicle which I own; it is not leased. Consent is important, without consent things become crimes. Like if a flight attendant says no to sex with her boss elon you cant just rape her and then offer her a horse after and get away with it. Anyways the automatic indicators that elon suggested everyone try on twitter the other night doesn't actually work for automatically turning on or off with or without ap and fsd. I decided to turn off my fsd that I paid $12,000 because its a death trap. Here's a video since Tesla says I'm imagining it and I must be schizophrenic or something but this is exactly why I record everything and trust nobody. The link probably doesn't work because the government is trying to silence me in this huge coverup. . Read more...

Steering problem #27

On Tuesday, may 16, I was driving on a city road at about 45mph when I began to hear metal noises coming from the front of my car. I slowed down and entered a shopping center driveway to inspect the noise. Upon pulling into the driveway of that center, I heard a metal snapping sound, my steering wheel jerked to the right, and grinding sounds started at the front axle of the car. I stopped immediately. Realizing something broke, I wanted to get out of the driveway, and tested if it would move in all directions. Ultimately, I could get the car to get straight at low speed, but if I attempted to steer left or right, the grinding would occur. I moved my car to a safe location and called Tesla roadside service to get towed to their service facility. There were no warning messages from the car before or after the incident. Had the part broken while traveling at higher speeds, or a winding road, I could have easily been involved in a deadly incident. I got lucky! I heard similar sounds from the same area about 4 months ago, and took the car in for service. Tesla service replaced the lower left hand front suspension link, lateral link and stabilizer bar on February 28, 2023. I do not have the details of all the parts replaced for this latest incident yet, as it is still at Tesla service awaiting a replacement "subframe assembly kit" according to my service rep. Lastly, I was not involved in an accident when this occurred, nor have I ever been involved in an accident in this vehicle.

Steering problem #28

Summon feature has never worked properly and has always tried to crash itself into cars next to it or drive the wrong way down the parking lot with no one inside. I have several videos of the car trying to crash itself after driving less than 4ft out of a parking spot at walmart. Couldn't even make it 100ft to the shopping cart deposit. You cant summon and record at the same time with your phone so when it failed I switched to record. Before that car was driving itself up the sidewalk towards the entrance of the building where people were entering and exiting, thank goodness for the concrete pilons. This car is worse than a piece of garbage its an intentional death trap and liability on wheels. I feel like they're trying to murder me for reporting them. I am in fear for my life. I am still censored online and just an hour ago I had a us government vehicle just about rear end me at 30mph+ over the speed limit. I have it on dashcam. Then they just followed me thru traffic for the next ten minutes. This is rackateering and fascism. Everyone said hitler was a great guy and ignored all the people he was killing for personal gain. How is this any different than Tesla and the us government in bed together passing each other tax incentives and sales contracts like its sugar free candy while silencing and trying to kill and smear whistleblowers like me. I am beyond repulsed that the NHTSA has allowed this vehicle to still be on the road driving uber and lyft customers around. But that's what they want, a witness like me earning less than minimum wage while his car tries to kill him and any crack head can just get in my car and shoot me in the back of the head so I can't testify. What's stopping blackrock or ark financial from jumping on the dark web and hiring a crackhead hitman? wouldn't be the first time a crackhead got in my uber and kept dropping his gun. That's right, nothing. . Read more...

•water leak from under the dash (potential electrical hazard) (available for inspection) •window regulator malfunctions (available for inspection) •front suspension noise (potential handling issue) (available for inspection) •persistent rattle or squeak (available for inspection) •autopilot failures and power steering issues (including excessive vibration and unexpected braking) (available for inspection) •constant noise and vibration (available for inspection) *autopilot failures and power steering issues (including excessive vibration and unexpected braking): this can lead to a loss of control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of an accident. *water leak from under the dash (potential electrical hazard): if water damages electrical components, it could cause the car to stall or malfunction while driving. *front suspension noise (potential handling issue): a failing suspension system could compromise the vehicle's handling, making it more difficult to control during maneuvers or emergencies. * been submitted for repairs at a Tesla maintenance center on multiple occasions. " this suggests Tesla has acknowledged the issues and attempted to fix them. ** concerning behavior: autopilot failures: the autopilot system unexpectedly disengaged or made erratic maneuvers while engaged. False object detection: the autopilot camera system falsely detected objects on the road, leading to unnecessary braking or swerving ** warning lights: it is particularly concerning that these issues were not accompanied by any warning lights on the dashboard.

Steering problem #30

1. Whoever designed the seats never sat more than 2 hours straight in them and is most likely below 150 lbs with the body shape of a petite person. Damaged coccyx and lower backs since inception of idea. Insanity will ensue after long periods of travel (+2hrs) in rear seating and extended third row seating for adults and children. You get more seating comfort from a Nissan than a Tesla. 2. Windshield wiper sensitivity lowers when using manually then activating auto. Sometimes sensitivity goes down with autopilot. Auto wiper sensitivity not constant. 3. If you have more than 4 people in your family, do not buy a model s3y 4. Bad panels which also affect steering column, with squeaking, why is that not a lemon? 5. Long range below 32f falls to half its mileage per full charge. Proper trip charging should be at 10% to 15% more than the minimum 0% for trip charge. 6. Autopilot forces high beams whenever there is fog. Autopilot will never engage on curves, only straight aways 7. Supercharger long trip navigation will not allow filtering locations with bathrooms or trashcans nearby. Walking far distances to find restrooms and trashcans are a normal thing. Teslas not meant for taking long trips. 8. Signage for charging misleading, "10 to 30 minute parking" will only charge 10 to 50 kw max while "vehicle charging only" will charge the advertised supercharger max output. 9. No climate control in third row for my, safety hazard and human rights issue.

Steering problem #31

I was driving with my wife and two kids at around 8:30pm (it was dark outside already) on November 29, 2022. The street was pretty empty and it had 2 lanes in each direction. I was driving the left lane with the speed at about 40 mph and had the autopilot (the one that keeps lane, not fsd) turned on. When the car was approaching the intersection with the green light on, it suddenly decided to turn left (even though there was a dedicated left turning pocket on the left hand side). It looks like it was confused and after trying to change the direction it pointed the car right to the road sign. Hopefully I had my hands on a wheel and was watching the situation, so I immediately turned the wheel right to get back to our lane. If I wasted a fraction of second we could end up smashing into the road sign at about 40mph.

The contact's wife owns a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 22v702000 (visibility) and 23v085000 (steering, electrical system) however, the parts to do the recall repair were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The contact stated while his wife was driving at various speeds with the full self-driving beta (fsd beta) activated, the vehicle failed to recognize objects and other vehicles. The vehicle drove into the path of oncoming traffic. The contact's wife corrected the failure by maneuvering the steering wheel to realign the vehicle back into the lane. Additionally, the vehicle was shaking while making turns. The vehicle also experienced phantom braking while driving under an overpass. The failure nearly caused a collision. The dealer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle performed as designed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

Steering problem #33

The turn signals do not work correctly with Teslas. You have to hit the switch multiple times in order to register your intent. For example, when I plan to turn left, I hit the turn signal switch, nothing happens. Then I try it again and it works. There are times it takes three switches in order to get the signal to register correctly. This is a known issue and complaints in forums that Tesla turn signal don’t register the first time. This is dangerous if I have to quickly switch lanes or exit and having to hit the turn signal switch multiple times in order for it to work. Very dangerous. This should work every single time, the first time.

Steering problem #34

Last evening , when doing a lane change on highway 680 , I lost control of the car and the car began to swerve pretty badly. Thankfully I hit the brakes on time and everything was fine again. A blue car was trying to get in my lane and I quickly changed lanes to be safe and the severe swerving began. It was like I was in a roller coaster. Thankfully it was a 4-5 lane freeway and there were no cars around me. It felt like the autopilot tool control and the swerving began. How do I lodge a complaint so that Tesla can fix it? can I turn something off to avoid this in future because I am scared to drive the car again? I have a 2022 Tesla Model Y. Also is it possible to see some sort of video from 680 between 4-5 pm on Tuesday sept 20, 2022? I was returning to san jose from fremont, CA. Thank you, jyoti.

Steering problem #35

Hello, my name is [xxx] and I had the 2022 Tesla Model Y performance. I had an accident on [xxx]. Car just took control itself, we hit the tree. It was in a residential area, it happened so fast that I could not react to prevent it. After we hit the tree, the car caught fire, it was a nightmare for me, I had my best friend with me at the time of the accident in the front passenger seat. Both of us were unconscious, by the time I got awake, the car was in flames, my friend was still unconscious but then he got awake after I tried with the local neighbor to pull him out from the car. Unfortunately my friend passed away after an accident in 5 hours. I had autosteer assistance on my car as a subscription. Plus my car had a problem with the side cameras, from time to time it was giving me errors - door pillar error message. Cops were trying to get information from the car, but according to Tesla representative my car was out of network from June 30, 2022. And I never got any notifications that my car is out of network. I have a case against me vs state of new jersey, the prosecutor's office charged me with vehicle manslaughter, at the time of accident I gave a statement to the police officer, in December 12, 2023 it was nationwide recall on Tesla cars, and this recall it was exactly for the same problem what I described to the police officer at the time of accident, so my problem is, I can't retrieve any information from Tesla regarding what happened at the time of accident, due to Tesla had my car out of network for 25 days prior. I can't prove my innocence because of that I'm facing serious charges right now. My complain is about my car being out of Tesla network for 25 days, without proper notification on the app or email, while my car was operated everyday on the daily basis. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Steering problem #37

Repeated random breaking when in cruise control or auto steer. It is available for inspection upon request. Car abruptly stopped on busy road at 60 miles per hour more than once. Slows on expressway repeatedly, which can potentially cause loss of control or being hit from behind. Vehicle has not been inspected for this issue. There have been no warnings of the problem prior to the failure. This problem has happened the entire time I’ve owned the car, especially, but not only, when driving on freeways.

Steering problem #38

I started my car and drove out of the parking lot of my apartment complex. I was trying to drive to the grocery store. At that time, the car's auto-pilot and navigation features were not on. After turning onto the main road near my apartment complex, I turned on the car's auto-pilot feature. I did not turn on the navigation feature. But the car suddenly started navigating to my work address anyway. I wanted to keep driving straight on the main road, but the car immediately turned left to go into a side street that I was already passing. The car sped up when it turned, and I did not have enough time to change direction or to break. The car steered into a tree off of the main road. I attached photos to the claim form.

Steering problem #39

The car was being driven on a low speed road (about 30mph) and suddenly the traction control, abs, power steering, and all drivers assistance features (automatic vehicle hold, emergency braking, etc) all went out as well. The car became very dangerous, instantly and the car was almost in an accident. The manufacturer has been completely unresponsive.

Steering problem #41

The Tesla Model Y and I believe the model 3 have a problem with phantom breaking. The problem occurs when we set the auto to cruise control on a two-lane highway. When we meet a large object (semi, garbage truck, propane truck) the car breaks and swerves to the right. This can create a very dangerous situation. The first couple of times this happened we almost lost control of the car. There is no warning before this happens. This problem can be easily replicated on cars without radar. It took us some time to determine what was causing the problem. We picked up our new Tesla model last week and were not made aware of what would happen if we used cruise control on a two-lane road. We have since discovered that this is a known problem in the Tesla community and has been known for some time.

Steering problem #42

On January 19th, around 9:35-9:40am, while driving on bollinger canyon road in san ramon, the car jerked as if someone rear-ended it and then stopped abruptly in the middle of a busy road. The information screen displayed various error messages regarding battery and drive system. The stop was abrupt and we could have been seriously injured in busy traffic. This was a scary experience. The car had 260 miles range in the battery and no prior warnings/ messages indicating any problem. We called 911 and Tesla roadside assistance for help. San ramon pd showed up and blocked the lane to avoid someone hitting our car. They had the car towed to the nearest Tesla service center in dublin, CA. While waiting for the tow truck, we attempted to restart the car and computer system two times but the car did not go into "drive" position to be moved. The service center is diagnosing the problem and have informed us that it could be a problem with the motor or drive terrain or inverter of the car. All these are major and crucial components on the car for safe and normal operation. Failure of any of these is catastrophic and can be fatal on freeway speeds or local roads if someone is following too closely and the car stops abruptly. We usually have kids in the car and this is a scary situation to imagine. This needs to be investigated in more detail by someone to find out how many card suffer this fate and how many accidents/ fatalities have been caused by something like this.
