Equipment problem #1

The backup camera does not work consistently. While not moving and then shifiting into reverse, the screen does not change or changes to something other than the camera. It usually stops working after several stops and shifts into reverse. Sometimes it goes 2 or 3 days without displaying and then starts working again another day.

Equipment problem #2

I was involved in a crash. I checked the rear view mirror preparing to brake in traffic. Before my eyes returned to the front I was crashing into the back of the vehicle in front of me pushing him into the car in front of him according to the driver in front of me. I have no idea how I got so close so fast I believe when I went to break the gas peddle was too close to the brake peddle also above the brake peddle. At the time of the crash I was in shock. And I couldn't explain what happened. Now I believe the right side of my right foot as I went to break my foot hit the gas first causing my car to go forward and caused the accident I only have a size 10 1/2 shoe this happened on a city st. An the car was in motion approx 25 mph. The rental I was provided has the brake higher then the gas and a normal distance from each other. Before the crash my spacing was good. I just glanced in the rear view mirror my foot was off the gas I was preparing to break because of the traffic in front before applying the break is when I glanced into the rear view mirror and like I said before my eyes came back to the front the air bag went off because of the crash. I also thought the car in front may have had his abs go off because he was too close to the car in front of him. But I do not to point the finger at anyone it all happened in a matter of seconds I never experienced so frightening except for flying as a gunner in a uh1e in the war. Again I do not know for certain but the above is the only way it must have happened. The weather was dry and clear is there any other reports of other people feeling the gas an break peddle are too close or if the brake should be set higher than the gas?.

Equipment problem #3

The wiring in my steering column connected to the horn in the clock spring has caused my horn to not work . I got my car diagnosed and they said that the clock spring needs to be replaced. It cost $1020. 31 to get fixed. They told me it was nothing I caused or could have prevented . I feel this is a safety hazard to me and everyone else out on the road. It's illegal to not have a horn and Toyota refuses to fix it . Apparently there was a recall on some older model 4runners for the same problem. I feel unsafe knowing I cannot use my horn and that it may cause my air bag to not deploy . Can someone please help me before someone gets seriously injured.

Equipment problem #4

Got code p2440 and was quoted 2000. For repair and only just 47107 miles.

Equipment problem #5

Squirrels keep eating my electrical wiring and the wiring harness. They access the engine bay through the openings in the wheel wells after jumping on top of the tires. The results have disabled my abs, 4wd, limited slip, etc. I've tried rodent repellent, fox urine, and parking in the garage. Nothing helps. Toyota needs to stop using soy based wiring, and they need to close the holes in the wheel wells.

Equipment problem #6

Liftgate struts on hatch failed yesterday. While I was getting something out of the back of my 2012 4 runner one of the liftgate struts gave out and the hatch came down on me and hit me in the head. I have knot and a sore neck from this. My concern is what if it had been one of my children back there getting something from the car when it gave way, they would of been seriously injured. I have read several forums online and this seems to be a very common thing for the lift gate struts to go out, I don't understand why this is not a recall.

Equipment problem #7

This vehicle does not get anything close to the 22mpg highway miles per gallon as posted on the window sticker. The dealership tells me that the computer is faulty and does not calculate the mileage properly and that is the way they all are. But, I have all the receipts for every tank of gas purchased since new. This vehicle has only been getting 17. 8 miles to the gallon on the highway on average. I've complained to the dealership twice but get the same answer. I can't depend on the on-board computer read out as to the fuel mileage, they tell me - "it is inaccurate". Yet, when a full 20. 5 gallons of gas are filled into the tank, the computer calculates 360 miles til empty. And after 310 miles, the fuel waring light comes on. I don't believe the dealership as I have the receipts to prove that the computer is accurate. The mpg are just extremely exaggerated. I would not have bought this vehicle knowing that the fuel consumption was going to be off by nearly 20% . Also the steering wheel continues to split at the bottom of the wheel. I will go back to have a second wheel replaced for my next service, in a few weeks.

Equipment problem #8

My vehicle frame and gas tank protector shield is rusting abnormally way faster than it should be.
