2 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 02/12/2018

I've put a down payment of 1200 at premier auto sales . In victoria TX I left feel positive about the vehicle . The sales man told me as soon as they get a mechanic to look at it . It didn't have an inspection either . So I took it to p&h all they did was right in a paper an sent it back with me to the car lot after I picked it up from it being dead the battery terninals where horrible the check engine light came on the oil light after a brand knew oil change kept smoking so took it back so they could look at it to find out they just cleared the codes . Picked it out he following Monday well the vehicle smelt like it was burning had to use my emergency brake to stop . Called them and the sales lady in the front said it wasn't their problem still within the 30 day period so took it to the brake place down the road from them my brakes were so back they had to change everything he said I could have caused a wreck because of them being so wore down . I called to make arrangement with them and they were just being ugly about the situation over all . I've tried to be nice and do the right think this was unsafe for me as well as my children .

3 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2016 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 02/01/2017

My vehicle was parked in front of my home and when I went out in the morning to take my children to school my vehicle started misfiring all the checks engine lights were lighted up every warning light on my panel lit up. I had my vehicle towed back to the dealer. Come to find out that all my wiring under the hood had been eaten or chewed up by rats. It cost me $500. 00 dollars to have it fixed (taped) less than 6 months later it happened again . And less than 3 months after that it happened again! I read somewhere that your vehicles are known to attract rats and that I'm not the only customer to have had this problem. Is there any way you guys are planning to fix this problem any time soon ? it's becoming very expensive for me .

4 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 05/14/2015

My 4runner check engine light came on and the vsc trak off lights came on with it. The trouble code indicated #6 cylinder misfire. After checking all the sensors it became obvious that there was a slight loss of coolant. Checked the engine and found that the head gasket for #6 had failed. Looking on line I see that there are hundreds of complaints about similar problems around the 120k miles mark. Isn't Toyota required to report these to NHTSA and should there be a recall on this? this problem seems very similar to an earlier Toyota issue that resulted in a recall. A head gasket should not fail during normal use of a vehicle especially one that is used very lightly and not off road.

5 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 04/10/2015

Traction control light came on, check engine light came on and vehicle would move only slowly. Turned car off and on several times, tried engaging 4 wheel drive and other drive functions, tried accelerating, but vehicle would only move slowly. After turning off and on one more time the vehicle drove as normal but all the warning lights stayed on. This happened in a parking lot while going slowly. Mechanic has indicated that this resulted from a failure of the air injection pump and air valve, which apparently for some reason turns off traction control. This is a common enough problem on tundras and sequoias that there is an "extended warranty" offered on these vehicles. I do not know if the air injection pump and air valves on 4 runners are the same design or same model, but there are numerous complaints on the internet of the same problem for 4 runners as for tundras.

7 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 10/13/2014

My check engine light came on along with vsc trac. After taking vehicle to dealership I was told that the repair would cost $2,048. 73 due to the air pump being stuck in off position. While Toyota in response to reports of air induction pump assemblies and/or air injection switching valves issues on their 2007-2010 tundra and 2008-2010 sequoia models, Toyota has decided to increase its warranty on these parts and is even offering a reimbursement if you already had this issue fixed. My vehicle has the identical engine of the above-named vehicles but Toyota does not offer any help with the 4runner. It is my understanding that if I do not get the problem fixed it becomes a huge problem within federally mandated emissions requirement.

8 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota runner. The contact stated that the check engine light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was advised that the air induction pump failed. In addition, the contact stated that the secondary air injection switch was also damaged as a result of the air induction pump failure. The air induction pump was replaced but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure who advised the contact that there were no recalls for the failure and offered no further assistance. The failure mileage was 90,000.

9 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 04/06/2011

While driving, the cel (check engine light) came on and the vsc trac and vsc off lights came on as well. Apparently Toyota disables vsc when the cel is triggered. In my case, the 2 times it has occurred has been due to emissions related failures (1st time the cat failed, 2nd time one of the O2 sensors failed). In the 1st case, I immediately took the vehicle to the dealership as I was approaching the end of the emissions warranty. They made the repairs and cleared all the codes so wasn't aware that the vsc system was actually disabled. The 2nd time (O2 failure) I replaced the failed O2 sensor, the cel has cleared, however the vsc lights are still on and vsc is disabled. I have serious concerns that Toyota disables key safety systems due to emissions related failures especially given the inherent stability problems with SUV's. If I'm on a trip with my family and an O2 sensor fails, or a catalytic converter fails, or the gas cap fails, key safety systems that help keep my family and I safe should not be disabled! I think this deserves an investigation.

10 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 02/05/2011

The check engine light came on and the vsc trac turned off, the day after the light came on and the traction turned off. . . The Toyota 2003 4runner flipped over. The vsc traction should not be turned off when a check engine light comes on because it provides the necessary stability of the vehicle that a SUV needs no matter what is wrong with the car. The car is now totalled and one passenger still suffering from injuries from the accident.

14 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2000 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 06/07/2008

Our 2000 Toyota 4runner, on a recent road trip, had the engine light come on while we were in rural kansas. Upon having it towed to the nearest Toyota dealership, we were told it had "engine sludge," and that we needed, at the least, a rebuild of our engine, and at most a new engine. The car has been well-maintained, and prior to this incident had run fine. Oil had been changed on a regular basis, and the vehicle had sufficient oil, and clean-looking oil, as it had always had.

15 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2000 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 12/24/2003

On several occasions I have take my car to the dealer trying to get my check engine light and car stalling repaired. On two occasions my car has stalled without any warning. The first time was when I was in the middle of making a left turn and the second time was when I was making a right turn. Also the check engine light goes on and off.

16 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2000 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 09/23/2002

Car stalls on deceleration with check engine light (red). Toyota truck was taken to the dealership twice without a permanent resolution. Upon contacting manufacturer and in turn Toyota service & repair they stated they are aware of the problem and that there is no resolution to the problem. Toyota service advised me to drive vehicle and not to completely fill gas tank, because if the gas tank is overfilled causes car to turn off. Due to gas getting into the vacuum system. **dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis**767680.
