This complaint relates to a defect in the Toyota entune premium audio system with navigation. Audio software version 0101a5. Unit is produced by panasonic. Model 57080. The system randomly and without warning "freezes" thereby preventing the driver from lowering or muting radio volume. The volume cannot be lowered or muted until the vehicle is stopped, and the ignition is turned off. The reverse safety camera will not activate when the head unit is in its "frozen" state. Toyota motor sales USA entune support department has been contacted about this issue, and I have a case number. They have not been able to provide any fix for the issue other than to contact dealer. Dealer states radio unit is defective, and I must pay out of my pocket to replace. A Toyota TSB exists to address this precise "freezing" issue, however, my particular unit will not accept the Toyota firmware update (software 0101b1) for reasons nobody has been able to determine. Toyota should replace the radio/head unit at their expense. I purchased the vehicle in March of 2017, it had 13,000 miles on it at time of purchase. Warranty expired shortly after I discovered this problem. In one incident, an emergency vehicle had its siren activated on the highway; I vaguely heard the siren, and attempted to lower the radio volume. The volume would not lower, and I became disoriented as to the location of the siren. It is dangerous that the radio control "freezes" while continuing to produce sound through the speakers, and the only way to turn it off is to shut off the vehicle.

Purchased a 2015 in Dec. 2014. . In 2015 (not sure of the first date but know it was when going to granddaughter's soccer game) we took a trip using the navigation system and radio. They system stopped for about 4 seconds and started again but had to reenter the navigation. We asked about it and was told it was like a cell phone that stops in some hot spots. It did not happen a lot at first but each time we were told it was a hot spot. The problem kept getting worse. We inquired and was told service would do a diagnostics on it but a cost. We were not willing to pay over $100 to check the problem. And now it is 2018 and we are checking on the internet seeing that it is not hot spots but a problem with the system. Only our warranty is out as of Dec. 2017. 2 months. . It is a distracting when it goes out while driving so we have to be very careful not to get distracted. We take a map and print outs from google drive to help when it goes out. As per reference number: TSB#5b0035-16. . . Many Toyota vehicles have the same problem. . . We have been in contact with Toyota headquarters. . . #1802282446. . . They will not do anything to help. . . Even though this is an on going problem in their product on several vehicles. Thought Toyota was better than this. . .

We experienced what can be best described as a forceful ¿exploding sunroof while traveling at highway speed in our new Toyota 4runner. It was as loud as a shotgun blast - blowing a hole outward from the car - showering me and my family with glass. Below is the basic sequence of events surrounding the issue. 1. 4runner was sitting for long period of time in cold weather (see temps for January 30th/31st). 2. We were driving 4runner for approx 15 minutes in stop and go city traffic (low speeds) 3. We hopped on I-205 headed back to eugene and were traveling at highway speed (65 mph) for approx 10 minutes 4. Sunroof was closed. The interior sunroof sliding cover was back/open. 5. We heard an extremely loud noise comparable to a shotgun blast and felt a major change in pressure 6. Myself, my wife, and kids were covered with chunks of glass - as well as very fine slivers 7. The sound of the wind over the hole in the sunroof was obvious and we looked up (we first thought we were hit by another car). 8. The initial hole was approx fist sized 9. As glass continued to fall into the car, we closed the interior cover. 10. Glass continued to fly backwards off of our car into traffic. 11. When we stopped we could see that the glass was blown out (upwards) from the car. 12. The hole was then approx double in size. 13. It was dark by the time we arrived home in eugene so I took the photos the next morning. 14. We used tape to cover the hole and as an attempt to keep the remaining glass from falling down (worked pretty well) 15. Also of note is the roof/skybox - the sunroof, and particularly the hole in the sunroof, are protected from above by the box - eliminating the possibility of a single object landing from above.

Complaint involves Toyota , 2004 4runner. Noticed slight vibration in steering wheel at 62-64 mph. Had wheels and tires rotated and balanced at 6000 miles. Problem continued. Had tires balanced again but no success. New set of michelin tires ordered but have not been put on. Also, am radio stations experiencing extreme static when driving over blacktop roads. Does not occur while driving on concrete roads. Is not affected on fm stations. Service manager will explore when tires are replaced.
