Steering Column Problems of Toyota 4Runner

Steering column rusted through. Hard to turn, when turning wheel it goes from smooth(normal) then grabby. I almost flipped my vehicle when turning off of mass avenue in somerville. If I was driving any fast I would have rolled. I don't know if any wheels came off the ground, but it was close.

The wiring in my steering column connected to the horn in the clock spring has caused my horn to not work . I got my car diagnosed and they said that the clock spring needs to be replaced. It cost $1020. 31 to get fixed. They told me it was nothing I caused or could have prevented . I feel this is a safety hazard to me and everyone else out on the road. It's illegal to not have a horn and Toyota refuses to fix it . Apparently there was a recall on some older model 4runners for the same problem. I feel unsafe knowing I cannot use my horn and that it may cause my air bag to not deploy . Can someone please help me before someone gets seriously injured.

When vehicle is driven over a rough road there is a rattle sound coming from steering column. . No rattle on smooth roads like highways. . . . . . . Its been doing this for a long time,yrs. . . . Seems like something is loose in steering column.

: the contact stated the vehicle had a vibration in the steering column. The service dealer expressed this was a normal characteristic vibration. The vehicle was new and was never in an accident. The contact test drove another vehicle which had the same issue. The vibration was noticeable from 5 mph to any higher speed.

The manufacturer was notified.
