When applying the brakes, the vehicle / steering wheel shakes "violently". Almost to the point that it is hard to hold on to the steering wheel. And if I'm driving at highway speeds the vehicle is extremely hard to stop. I have had to swerve around the vehicle in front of me numerous times because my brakes could not stop my vehicle in time. In an attempt to fix this issue I have had a certified mechanic replace the front rotors at 71k miles, 83k miles, 100k miles with the last time being with genuine Toyota rotors. Each time the vehicle will drive great for about 10k miles and than go back to the violent shaking. Even with the last set of genuine Toyota rotors, the violent shaking started after about 15k - 18k miles. Luckily with covid I don't have to drive on the highway much, but even at city speeds it still really shakes. So here I am still looking for a permanent solution to my problem.

I bought a 2021 4runner late April of 2021. I reported and scheduled an appointment for a balance check. This didn't seem to fix the problem. While they where in the process of balancing the tech broke 2 center caps. I will setting up an appointment to have the dealership recheck and alignment. I've read reports where this has been a problem before with a lot of 4 runners. I'm disappointed with the customer service as well there. Please help me resolve this problem. I really love the vehicle but at 60-65mph the steering wheel shakes and the 4runner wants to pull to the right.

The vehicle has had a multitude of issues. I am on my 3rd different set of tires this year (including the original tires). No matter how many times the tires are balanced, the steering wheel shakes rather violently at certain speeds. The tires have been balanced and re-balanced (including road-force balanced, etc. ). On-line forums indicate that many other Toyota owners are experiencing the same issue. Also this week I have lost the ability to steer the vehicle (the steering wheel is locking and binding up). Approximately 2 weeks ago the right front caliper froze up and the vehicle nearly went off the road. Also the rear differential was noisy from the day the vehicle was new. Toyota eventually replaced the rear differential (I believe a bad pinion gear). Shortly after the rear differential was replaced the vehicle started to go in and out of 4-wheel drive on its own, and warning lights and chimes started going off. The dealer then made repairs but this has happened at least once or twice since then and the dealer has repaired it each time. Also in the last year the transmission stopped working leaving me stranded in the middle of a 4-lane road. I eventually was able to get the vehicle to move but then it started to go in and out of 4-wheel drive on it's own again with warnings and chimes going off. Whenever the vehicle starts to go in and out of 4-wheel drive on its own the shifter lever usually starts to freeze up as well (and you may need to use both hands to force the vehicle into gear). The vehicle has also had a strong odor of antifreeze since new coming from the right front corner. The dealer has advised they cannot locate the cause. Also various heat shields have either broken or fallen off since the vehicle was new. Please note that I do not go 4-wheeling with the vehicle and it's meticulously maintained including all service records and receipts.

At 20,202 the SUV's steering wheel would shake when brakes were applied. The dealer noted that the rotors were warped, glazed and had heat spots. Vehicle qualified for replacement brakes under warranty, replaced brake pads and rotors front only. Since repair, the front wheel started to shake again - dealer said to get new tires to solve problem. Got new tires at ~47,000. Problem still existed, and took to dealer for regular service and to address brake pulsation when applying pedal. The dealer, northridge Toyota, declared that "the pulsation is a wear or driving pattern issue" refusing to fix this obviously defective braking system. Recommending the same rotor and pad replacement at a cost of over $660. 00. Many documented complaints of this same problem on this NHTSA website.

I have had this vehicle for many years and I "know" it. I noticed that he steering wheel had a vibration albeit slight, this was something new as well as a noise I could hear under the car. I brought it home complained to my husband - he looked under the car & was appalled - the frame is so rusted he was able to stick his finger through the failing frame! I am afraid this vehicle will kill me! what if it decides to completely break at an axle or part of the undercarriage. Do I drive it and take the chance of getting hurt or killed before someone will order a recall. We can send photos if necessary as this will most certainly add validity to the concern.

Steering wheel vibrates between 55-65 mph. Vehicle feels unstable until it reaches aprox 70 mph. Taken to dealer 3 times. They balanced the front wheels, but issue returns everytime, 2-3 weeks later. Toyota says it is normal. Cannot be normal for a brand new car, with new tires. Multiple owners report issue happening in multiple websites.

Less than 70,000 miles on my vehicle, but recently took my car in for an alignment because my vehicle slowly drifts to the right, and sometimes the steering wheel shakes when driving between 50-60 miles. I was told by 2 different body shops (1 of which was Toyota) that my entire power steering would need to be replaced and is currently leaking. I was advised this could be potentially dangerous if my power steering were to stop working while I was driving at fast speeds on the freeway. I received a full-point inspection when my mileage was at the 50,000 marker but this was not an issue at that time.

Steering wheel vibrates, flutters at highway speed. Most noticeable driving over 60 mph.
Steering wheel vibrates lightly at 60 mph or more, once the speed lowers to 59 mph or less it steady. I ask the dealer for the situation and they said that the steering alignment is perfect. Tires were rotated but didn't worked.

2005 Toyota 4runners have a very frequently reported vibration issue. This issue is reported all over the web and acknowledged by dealers nationwide. From my understanding, 2004 to 2007 4runners are all impacted. Customer spend 1000s of dollars replacing tires, balancing wheels, replacing steering wheels, etc and the car still vibrates and is suspect to be unsafe. This is a well known issue and Toyota claims that this is the design of the call. Steering wheel can shake badly. I have had my 4runner in many times for this issue to multiple dealers. All say it is a problem, but all 4runners of same vintage have same issue, so nothing that Toyota will do about it.
