The contact stated while her husband was driving 65 mph, the vehicle veered to the right independently causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. As a result, the driver crashed into a guard rail, a wooden post, a fence and came to a stop at a tree. The contact does not remember if the front driver air bag deployed, but stated the front passenger side air bag did deploy. The contact stated she sustained a fracture nose, spine, left wrist, right lung was punctured, and 3 fractured ribs on her left. The contact stated she was in a coma and hospitalized for 3 weeks. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The vehicle was not drive-able and was towed to an independent tow lot. A police report was filed. A dealer was not contacted. Driving to coral gables at around 20 mph, all of sudden four lights comes on and loud beeping noise. Vsc, trac off, abs & brake lights on at the same time, brake peddle is hard and no brakes at all. Near the end of August four warning lights came on at the same time in my 2003 4runner. They were the vsc trac, vsc off, abs and brake. I scheduled an appointment with the local Toyota authorized repair shop to determine and fix the problem. They looked at the vehicle and discovered significant rust and corrosion on the frame, rear axle and attached parts. I have asked for an estimate to repair, and they are unable to do so as there is so much rust, corrosion, and lack of material to work with. I am the second owner of this vehicle. The first owner, a friend of mine, had the vehicle undercoated the day after purchase, kept the car in a garage, and washed the vehicle frequently including the underside. I purchased the vehicle in February 2007 with 13,750 miles. It has also lived in a garage here. As of August 29, 2013, the date of the inspection, the vehicle had 24,005 miles. The exterior of the vehicle is in perfect condition, and the interior is the same. However, the underside is a different story. I have contacted Toyota and received this response. "there are no known issues or current recalls relating to body and frame rust issued for your vehicle. . . Your vehicle is out of warranty, and we would be unwilling to offer you any compensation for any repairs to the vehicle. While we understand your dissatisfaction with this decision, it does represent Toyota's final position in this matter. ".

My 2002 Toyota 4runner has a faulty throttle position sensor (part # 89452-35030) that causes loss of power while driving (at all speeds). This loss of power is very dangerous as the car will be driving along at a stable speed and then suddenly just start slowing down even though my foot stays on the gas pedal. This loss of speed puts me at serious risk to be rear-ended by a car behind me or potentially get hit from the side as I am crossing an intersection. Desert Toyota in tucson located at 7150 e. 22d street, tucson, az 85710 sold us this car and maliciously hid the true odometer reading. . . By 85,000 miles difference. . . A misdemeanor. They admitted this and after we retained an attorney, they undid the deal. Big liars, frauds, cheats. The salesman who did this, along with his fraudulent sales manager, is named tony james vondell. They lied from the start, saying "the car is too old to pull a carfax". The car broke down within hours of leaving the dealership. It would not go over 35 miles per hour. Our attorney pulled a carfax immediately and exposed the altered mileage as well as a serious prior collision which deemed the car disabled. We have notified the police, the bbb, Toyota headquarters, local news station, and multiple websites. . . Hoping to spare consumers this grief. They are scam artists and I have all the paperwork to back it up. I will tell anyone who will listen. I hate liars. These guys are pathetic losers, wimpy little worms, and they have messed with the wrong person.

I was backing into my driveway. I stopped the vehicle. I then shifted into forward for about 1 foot and then shifted into reverse (I was maneuvering my car). When I shifted into reverse the engine went to maximum power (instantly). I jammed on the brake and the rear tires started to spin and the rear of the car was bouncing up and down as the tires were spinning. I immediately shifted into park and shut off the engine. The car was sent to the dealership where the service department did not find a problem. . My car has to remain at the dealership for 2 weeks because a Toyota factory rep has to visit the dealership to inspect the car.

The vehicle was taken to be diagnosed at sunrise Toyota north (located at 910 middle country rd, middle island, NY 11953, (631) 924-8100). The mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure or retrieve a fault code. The manufacturer was contacted and notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
I was driving the truck to a body shop to fix the frame and body of the truck, as directed from Toyota. Which I was told from Toyota in portsmouth nh, to take it to a body shop to get it fixed. When driving the vehicle they car began to accelerate out of control, I had to pass several vehicles, the car was shaking as I had the breaks on the whole time. It was upwards of 80 miles an hour with out any control. My sister was following me, I also have proof from the body shop, as I barely made it there, I had to put on the emergency break to stop the car. Toyota customer service told me, probably driver error, not the case. When I left the truck with the body shop, they told me the frame and body of the truck were not repairable. I paid Toyota for tire rotation, oil change, and filters, to hear that I have to scrap the car. I still feel unsafe driving due to the truck accelerating out of control, and got no support from Toyota.

While the vehicle was sitting and idling the engine light came on along with vse light and experienced rough idling and erratic throttle response. When my wife tried to put in reverse and back out no throttle was produced to move vehicle. She turned car off and restarted engine light remained on along with vse light. She was able to make it home with rough idling and extremely erratic throttle response. This happened one other time within a five day window until we were able to get to the dealership for service appointment. Dealership contends throttle body is bad at 39,000 miles due to the three problems codes pulled from vehicle. Although scheduled preventative maintenance was performed @ 30,000 miles with throttle body cleaning this part still failed. The erratic throttle response from this part is very dangerous for anyone that experiences this while driving.

I was driving into town (approx. 12 miles) and slowed to about 40 mph as I was approaching a stop light. I had to apply all my weight to stop the vehicle. The engine did not return to idle speed when I was stopped. I shifted to neutral and the rpm indicated 1500 revs. I kicked the gas pedal and the engine returned to normal idle speed, 700 revs. The floor mat was nowhere near the pedal. I can not find any recalls for this vehicle. Is there a fix for this problem?.

On approximately February 28, 2012, the abs/trac control/vsc lights came on and remained lit on my 2003 Toyota 4runner. I called the dealership and they said to bring it in right away. They diagnosed the car and came up with "no sensor reading?. It cost me $150 for the diagnostic test. I picked up the car and a few weeks later I brought it back for the same problem. The computer then indicated that there was a faulty O2 sensor which they replaced my cost was over $650. The next week the lights came on again. The dealership kept the car for a few days but later reported that they could not duplicate the problem. They told me that I should wait until it got worse and bring it back. I suffered with this problem for months. I say suffered because when I was in park and these lights came on, I could not shift out of park. The lights would eventually go away and allow me to drive. On 8/24 the problem became worse. I could not shift my car out of park for more than 15 minutes on over 10 different occasions. The warning lights remained lit almost constantly over 3 days. When I called to return the car to the dealership on 8/27, the service person said that she thought there was a recall associated with that issue, but then told me that there was not. Later that day, they called and said that they again could not replicate the problem. After a quick internet search, it seems that many people have had the same experience that I have had on various Toyota vehicles. I feel an investigation is appropriate in this instance.

I was making a right hand turn into a parking spot. At the moment right before you straighten the vehicle wheel to park, the car suddenly revved up for about 1 to 2 seconds causing the vehicle to accelerate forward. The vehicle went over the curve and hit the building in front of the parking spot.

Brakes failed causing me to run off the road almost rear ending another vehicle. The vsc, abs and brake lights came up on the dash along with an audible alarm. Repair shop said brakes are fine and that is a computer related problem.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs under NHTSA campaign id number: 11v113000 (vehicle speed control: accelerator pedal). The dealer did not perform the recall because the contact wanted the vehicle floor mat replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and they advised that only the all weather floor mat was replaced with the accelerator pedal recall. The failure and the current mileage was 170,000.
I have owned this vehicle for over 7 years. Today, the only occasion of the following occurred. Driving I-95 in north florida at approx. 72 mph, I removed my foot from the accelerator to begin a lane change as I approached a slower vehicle to the front. The accelerator, of its own accord, pressed itself to the floor and the vehicle began to accelerate on its own, reaching a speed of 93 mph within a few seconds. I applied the brakes, which were totally ineffective; the vehicle continued to increase in speed. I came within a few feet of rear-ending the car I had begun to go around, and just before impact I turned off the ignition, which cut off the motor. I moved from the middle lane to the shoulder of the road, and while coasting, turned the key back to the 'on' position, without starting the motor. Instantly the motor revved on its own to tach redline, and I turned the key to the 'acc' position; the motor shut off. This occurred three times, and the entire time the accelerator pedal was pressed to the floor. It was not stuck under the floor mat, as I checked this while coasting. The pedal could not be pried up by my toe, but was stuck fast. I had reduced speed to about 30 mph. After 1/2 mi coasting, the pedal returned to the normal position on its own, and I was able to start the car. It drove normally the entire way home, about 60 miles. If I had panicked and not turned off the engine within the few seconds I had, I would have certainly impacted the car in front of me which would have resulted in a crash in excess of 90mph. There was traffic around me at that point, and it would have resulted in a multiple-car crash. This is my wife's car and I cannot let her drive the car again. I find no recalls, but this situation most certainly was very real, and very dangerous. This is not to be dismissed by calling it 'driver error', or a pedal stuck under a mat. I stayed rational, and controlled the situation. Do something meaningful before someone else dies, NHTSA.

When the air conditioner is running the vehicle idles at different rpm's causing it to lunge forward when the a/c compressor shuts down, increasing the rpm's. This has almost caused a fender bender several times while at a stop light.
While driving, the cel (check engine light) came on and the vsc trac and vsc off lights came on as well. Apparently Toyota disables vsc when the cel is triggered. In my case, the 2 times it has occurred has been due to emissions related failures (1st time the cat failed, 2nd time one of the O2 sensors failed). In the 1st case, I immediately took the vehicle to the dealership as I was approaching the end of the emissions warranty. They made the repairs and cleared all the codes so wasn't aware that the vsc system was actually disabled. The 2nd time (O2 failure) I replaced the failed O2 sensor, the cel has cleared, however the vsc lights are still on and vsc is disabled. I have serious concerns that Toyota disables key safety systems due to emissions related failures especially given the inherent stability problems with SUV's. If I'm on a trip with my family and an O2 sensor fails, or a catalytic converter fails, or the gas cap fails, key safety systems that help keep my family and I safe should not be disabled! I think this deserves an investigation.

This morning I stopped at the end of my driveway to wait for the garage door to go up. I stepped on the brake and stopped. After I was stopped my 4runner accelerated hard and I had to use both feet on the brake to hold it. I shifted in to neutral and the engine continued to race. It eventually stopped and I was able to pull in to the garage and park. It was very frightening. I was in 4 wheel drive mode due to snow and ice on the roads. After I parked in the garage, I shifted back to two wheel drive.

With engine running and while stopped at intersection, brake pedal is released, then accelerator pedal is pressed, vehicle begins moving, all check engine lights turn on, car stalls in the middle of the intersection (with oncoming traffic). This situation has occurred 3 times and may have lead to at least one fender bender where the vehicle in question was hit from behind because following car thought that my car was accelerating through the intersection. After stalling, all 3 check engine lights may or may not stay on. After putting car in neutral and restarting engine, car accelerates on runs normally until next stalling event. Since January 2010, I have been to the Toyota dealer service department 4 times. I have had 2 gas caps replaced, oxygen meter replace, break/accelerator pedal checked, charcoal canister replaced, new battery, and several oil changes. The problem still persists. This upcoming weekend they said they will change the throttle body assembly.

On sat. Aug. 14, 2010 my 2005 Toyota 4runner accelerated backwards at a high rate of speed as I was attempting to back out of my sister's driveway. I had my foot on the brake at the time and tried to stop the car but could not. I put it in park, nothing happened, then I turned it off and we stopped. We actually backed into a grove of small trees and shrubs which caught us. The car was scratched up a little but not much damage was done. I did call the police and made a report. My younger sister was with me. The backwards acceleration was smooth and did not knock us around much and the stop was kind of smooth. After I turned it off I could not use the brakes anymore but at least we stopped. It was very frightening and I am afraid to drive the car any more. It is parked at my house. First I rented a car and now have borrowed one from a relative. I called corporate Toyota and an engineer from eaa is coming to brunswick Toyota tomorrow (08/26) to check out the car. Toyota offered no help with another car and say it will take up to 30 days to give me the results of the inspection tomorrow. Meanwhile I can't drive the car because I am afraid of it and I can't trade it in so I am stuck. The car was almost paid off and has never given me any trouble to speak of until this happened. I never suspected my car since I had not heard of any 4runners having a problem. I am an honest person and am well respected in my community. I wanted to do the right thing but it does not feel like Toyota wants to do the right thing. I feel that the least that Toyota could do is give me back the $25,000 that I paid for the car. The incident happened at the intersection of harbison and division st. Southbound at harbison st. ,while slowing down for a full stop at a red light with my right foot gradually pressing the brake pedal suddenly the engine rpm went up so high without stepping on the accelerator pedal. My immediate reaction was to press harder the brake pedal. The high acceleration lasted about 10 seconds and I was able to bring the vehicle to a full stop at the middle of the intersection which have caused an oncoming vehicle at my leftside to swerve to its left to avoid an impact. This is the second time it occurred. The first time it happened with another driver it was ignored because he thought it was normal. There was no repair done on both times it happened. The owner have not receive any notice of manufacturer notice of defect. The first incident was about 6 months ago and not reported. Also no fire, property damage, crash occurred.
