Since the 13th of November until November 22,2017 I have been having problems with starting my car. Two months prior I had just purchased a new battery so when the problem started I had the battery retested twice by two separated companies . The battery was found to be good and charging like it should. The alternator was good but yet the car continued to be jumped twice a day. I took the car back to the dealership it was checked out and we found the battery in the key fob was dead. Got a new battery for the key fob it work for one day. The next night as I prepared to leave home for work I had to jump start my car again and 8 hours later I had to jump start again to get home. On 11/22/17 I tried to start my car again it would not start everything on the inside was black nothing was lit on the instrumental panel and everything on the car is drained.

The radio station started to fade in and out. Then the dashboard console started to shut down and displayed the letter f (for fail). Then the engine shut down while I was driving on a divided four-lane highway in the lane closest to the median. There was no time to move into the right-hand lane. There was never any battery warning light or other indication that the battery did not have enough charge to run the engine or even to power the emergency flashers. The problem was that the alternator failed. The battery didn't need replacing. Only the alternator needed replacing. I had the Toyota service department test the battery warning light and was told that the sensor was working properly. I have had no trouble with the car since the alternator was replaced. I was told that the alternator has three diodes and the failure of one or two diodes can still provide sufficient charge. Evidently eventually all three diodes failed. I wasn't told how many failed. My complaint is that I had insufficient warning that the alternator had failed. As far as I knew, the problem was in the console which I thought would not require immediate exit from the four lane highway. The lack of a proper warning means to me that I could have been stranded on an interstate expressway without a means for getting out of a high speed lane. That is a very dangerous situation and warrants an investigation into why Toyota provides no warning for an alternator failure.

2012 Toyota Avalon. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle radio sub-woofer recall notice issues. The consumer stated on two occasions, he took the vehicle to the dealer regarding the issue. On both occasions, the dealer stated the had not received the means or the information as to how to correct the sub-woofer problem but he would be contacted when the remedy was available. On may 13th, there was a loud crackling noise coming from the rear of the vehicle and the radio stopped working. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the consumer told the service advisor, he believed it had something to do with the recall on the sub-woofer. The dealer called the consumer the next day, and informed him the issue was indeed related to the sub-woofer, because when the sub-woofer was disconnected the radio immediately began to work. A few days later, the vehicle would not start, because the battery was dead. The consumer believed the dead battery was related to the sub-woofer. The dealer disagreed with the consumers theory and stated the issue was a bad battery and alternator. The consumer went to get a second opinion and was informed the battery and alternator were working properly and the problem was due to either the previous dealer had disconnected the sub-woofer improperly or waited too long to disconnect it while they were trying to find the problem.

Car wouldn't start at shopping area - paid $5 for a battery jump - had car tested at local auto shop - said we needed an alternator but may be under warranty - went to eastern shore Toyota - for $56. 57 - yes we needed an alternator - not under warranty -cost $580 - take til tues - suggest we spend $100 plus and rent a car. We elected to take our chances and had the vehicle fixed closer to gulf shores where we are staying - cost was $396. We have never had an alternator go out after owning vehicles for nearly 60 yrs - let alone at 46725 miles and such a pricey car. We are considering the rav 4 for 2014 but this is giving us second thoughts.
