I was stopping in a tennis court parking lot when the car suddenly accelerated and hit a tree. The damage came to about $7,000. This was the second time this happened. The first time was 4/2/2014. The car suddenly accelerated when I was going approx. 5 miles an hour but I was on a straight stretch of road and stopped the car without doing any damage. The first time I took the car to the Toyota dealer and they could not find anything wrong. I fell that this car has a serious defect and should not be driven until this problem is fixed.

While driving home on 9/24/13 my check engine light came on, I drove right to the Toyota dealership. I was informed that the catalytic converter system was below threshold ( code p0420). This repair cost me $2,541. 27. I was told this would correct the problem with my air bag light flashing. After paying for this repair my air bag light continues to flash, even though the service representative said the diagnostic did not show a code. I was previously told the code for the air bag was b0113. Since purchasing this 2002 Avalon I have had to have the valve assy, idle replaced at a cost of 978. 63, this is in addition to regular scheduled services. I have owned other cars for the same length of time and miles as this Toyota and I have never had so many problems outside regular services with any of my other vehicles (Mazda and Acura) I have completely lost confidence in the Toyota brand. I believe there are defects with the electrical system in the 2002 Avalon.

My wife was in a parking lot when the car suddenly accelerated on it's own she applied the brake without results. The car continued forward about 10 feet, and was stopped on impact by a picnic table and side of a building. She received a whiplash injury, recently diagonsed as herniated disks, and is currently under medical care. Damage was confined to the grill and crumple zone in the front of the car. The insurance assessed the damage at $7,000. 00, and has been repaired.

As I was backing out from a space in a parking lot, my car suddenly accelerated and I had a hard time getting it to stop with the brake pedal. The wheels were turned in a sharp left position. The engine sounded like it was at a high rev. The right side of my car crashed into two cars on the opposite side of the parking lot aisle before coming to a halt. The whole event lasted just a few seconds. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6). Was driving on new jersey turnpike,at around exit 7 tried to avoid a car all of a sudden the car totally was uncontrollable , the brakes would not stop slow it down, ended up crashing against the jersey wall, backed up by itself and turned to face the traffic in the middle lane w/ the utmost effort finally stopped. My husband and I were injured and transported to hospital, when I complained to my insurance CO. That what we experienced was beyond normal they suggested we should complain to Toyota, we contacted Toyota and complained asked them to investigate this occurrence and were assured that they will check the wrecked car. State farm insurance received my permission to release the car ,and documented the date of communication and the person at Toyota in charge of this investigation but Toyota is playing games or would not return our calls. This has happened before all the news reports about carpets and recalls. The irony is we went ahead and bought a 2009 Toyota Avalon that is how much we trusted this company. We both are still suffering from the injuries of this crash of the car that seemed to be ( possessed ) as I told my insurance adjustor. We do not know which way to go to prove our case and at this stage I am retracting my consent for Toyota to inspect my car. I hope to hear from you [xxx].

Jammed down on the accelerator and it stuck. Had to keep hitting the gas petal with my foot to get it to release. Almost lost control of the car as it continued to accelerate until the petal popped up.

I purchased a 007 Toyota Avalon limited in 11/2006 before a month passed I had to take it to the local dealership in visalia, CA. I told the shop manager the footpedal had gotten stuck and the car was wide open, I stomped on the gas pedal and it wouldn't come up, then I reached down and grabbed it and pulled it up, I told the shop manager if I had been in traffic or town there would have been injuries or death and this was a serious problem, they checked it out and told me I didn't know how to drive the car and it was ok. I was a mad customer, then I told him there was also a problem with the computer, the thing wouldn't idle down coming up to a stop sign , and if you put the car in neutral as you braking coming up to a stop it would almost put you through the window, and they needed to fix this , I got the same answer the car is ok. Well by then I really mad, but I also knew then they had no intention of fixing or acknowledging there was a problem, the car has 85k miles on it now and I'm on the 3rd set of tires, 2nd set of brakes, 2nd set of rotors, and had the front end aligned and new bolts installed in the front end so the camber could be adjusted, what a !@#$%, I have been asked to leave dealerships for raising !@#$% about this car, I've also said the paint on this car is junk to and they refuse to do anything about it. I have three years of diesel and gasoline mechanics, was the top of my class and sought after by many large corporations when I graduated in 1978, and I used to work at a chevy dealership as a line mechanic when I graduated. I can assure you Toyota knew they had problems, and refused to do anything as far back as 2006, if I had the extra money or the time I would have sued them a long time ago, but they are so big as a company I probably didn't have a chance until now. I will bet you if you interview workers at the Toyota plants where the cars were built you will find they have had gas pedals stick at the factory too. Want to bet me?.

2003 Toyota Avalon xls. Stalled while driving. Had to leave the car in street and walk home. Would not restart for at least 30 minutes. Also would start, then stall and not restart for at least 30 minutes on other occasions intermittently. This was very concerning because the engine would just turn off during driving and not restart. Took to b&d auto repair, who could not replicate problem and then called Toyota dealership in carlsbad who told them was probably the idle air control valve as they had been finding this an issue with Avalons. So b&d auto replaced the idle air control valve and the problem never recurred. This cost us $500. I have the receipt for the date of 5-5-2006 repair. Our friends have the same vehicle, same year and they began to have the same difficulty with their 2003 Avalon a few weeks later and had to have the same repair done and their problem then went away as well. Today, I phoned b&d auto and bernie ( the man who took care of my car in 2006) informed me that they are currently having similar problems with approximately one Toyota vehicle per week, and they are replacing the idle air control valves. He stated that this includes rav 4, tacoma, camry, Avalon, and forerunners. I am letting you know this information because today the wall street journal had an article that states this is a problem with 2006 Toyota corollas and matrix vehicles. This is obviously much farther reaching than this article states and I hope it will be investigated further because of the danger of this difficulty to all of those driving or occupying a vehicle when this happens. I am wondering if there have been accidents or deaths due to this dangerous problem? I was very concerned that my car would turn off on the high speed lane of the freeway. I was so relieved when this was repaired and I wasn't afraid to drive my car again.
