2 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2024

The components or systems that have failed are (catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, air bag control module, engine including head gasket) my safety is at risk due to catalytic converter not functioning properly producing harmful carbon monoxide that can be smelled through air vents, air bag control module not functioning which will not able to initiate the deployment of airbag in the event of a wreck/accident could lead to fatality. Engine not functioning properly due to blown head gasket which could lead to overheating amongst other things. Vehicle has been inspected by dealership. Yes there are warning lights prior to failure (check engine light).

3 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2022

My passenger side dash airbag is bloating and tearing at the seam. It is available for inspection. I am concerned that it will continue to add pressure and eventually deploy. It seems unsafe for passengers -would it work properly in the case of an accident? and for myself as the driver, it would certainly startle me while driving if it deployed by itself. I took it in to get serviced and was told it would need to be replaced. The cost will be around $1600. I haven’t had my insurance inspect it, is that something that is recommended? I tried to contact Toyota but never heard back. I don’t have any warning lights on, and I noticed the issue starting in the past year. I have found threads of other Toyota Camry in the same car age range with owners that are having/had the same issue. These threads mentioned it happening around 40,000 miles, and that aligns with my car too. - I also have a friend that has the same issue with her Camry airbag!.

Failure Date: 07/21/2018

I had just gotten in the car in the parking lot of a store. Turned the car on, put my seatbelt on, and began entering in a destination into my phone gps when both the airbags deployed. The car was in park with my foot on the brake and my hands were not touching the steering wheel. I had not left the parking space and no one hit or bumped the vehicle. There are not currently any recalls on this vehicle and I can only assume it was an airbag malfunction.

16 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2014

I was driving southbound on lakeshore dr when with no warning of a turn signal a tow truck driver cut me off and slowed almost to a complete stop. I had no choice but to brace for impact as I stomped down on my brakes. The entire front end of my car was totalled as the front right end of my car made impact with the left rear end of his tow truck. After the dist settled I looked around and realized that no airbags deployed. I found this realization extremely alarming, not only for the chest pain that I was experiencing on my right side which I felt was from my chest hitting the steering wheel (even thought I was indeed wearing my seatbelt) but because earlier this year Toyota had come out with a recall list, and when I called to find out if my car was on the recall list I was told no. I don't know how my car was looked over but this is a situation that should be immediately rectified. Thank god my situation wasn't worse than it was and my 5 year old son was not in the car, but there are others on the road who may not meet the same outcome.

17 Air Bag problem

18 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2012

The srs light has blinked for 5 years. It may blink for a day or two and then not blink for a week. Now it has been blinking everyday for 2 weeks. A diagnostic check was made and I was told that the passenger air bag tried to open but did not. I bought this car used and after about a month the srs light began to blink.

19 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

Passenger side seat belt does not retract. . . The seatbelt light stays on whether or not someone is sitting in the seat. I had the light diagnosed for $91 but they said that there was actually a problem with the airbag system. Regardless, the seatbelt still does not retract.

20 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2009

The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Camry. While driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle accelerated without warning. As a result, the contact crashed the vehicle into a wall. The vehicle was moderately damaged. One week later, the failure recurred and the vehicle crashed into a building. The vehicle was completely destroyed and none of the air bags deployed. The contact was not injured in either crash. A complaint was filed with the manufacturer and a representative concluded after inspection of the vehicle that nothing caused the spontaneous acceleration. A police report was filed. The failure mileage was 50,000 and current mileage was 60,000. See also 10286930.

21 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2008

Driver of Toyota Camry 2002 had 3 spoke steering wheel air bag which had been subject of recall. Failed to inflate properly and face and neck of driver sprayed with metal fragments on face and all around eyes. Driver was on non-impact side of right front impact. Driver however suffered far worse facial injuries from exploding air bag canister than passenger that was killed on impact side of car from other injuries. Plastic surgeon picked metal fragments of all sizes out of face of Toyota driver for over 8 hours and said it was impossible to get it all. He compared her face to being shot by a shotgun several times full of metal fragments. Mri and CT scan confirm extensive metal still left in face of driver-- especially all around eyes, nose and forehead area. Pieces of metal in neck as well due to this driver can never have an mri again due to the metallic magnetic danger. Plastic surgeon commented-- worst facial damage he had ever seen on non impact side of accident. Suspected air bag defect and canister of charge for air bag exploded defectively-- sending hundreds of metal fragments into face and neck of driver.

22 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2007

My wife, amy s. Jenson, rear ended another vehicle on s main st in findlay, OH. There was extensive damage to front end of her car. The engine was pushed back the best part of a foot because of the accident. The problem is that there was no airbag deployment of any sort from the accident. Isn't that what air bags are there for? as a result there is significant bruising of my wife's head where it hit the windshield and broke it. I would like to know if this defective air bag is common among her car type. She drives a 2002 Toyota Camry.

23 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2006

3 incidents of sudden accelerations, the last one causing property damage. The dealer said nothing wrong with car. I found many other people on-line that had same problem. Someone is going to get killed in a crosswalk or parking lot. I'm afraid to drive it or sell it to another with this problem.

24 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2005

While driving in heavy rain, my 2002 Camry xle hydroplaned on the interstate and first smashed head-first into a guardrail before being jolted back on to the highway where it was then hit broadside by an oncoming car. Serious damage was done to both the front end, side and rear of the vehicle (from impact). The car is supposedly equipped with side curtain air bags as well as front airbags. None of them deployed. The car that hit my car, a 1995 suburu, had deployed both of its front seat air bags. How is this possible and why did it happen?.
