Top of dashboard around passenger side airbag is splitting open. Other Toyota;s from the same year have a dashboard fix thru Toyota. Not Camry's. Concerned that airbag may not work correctly. Or come out of dashboard.
Noticed slight swelling of the passenger side airbag over a period of a few months. Appeared that the upper seam of the cover was widening. Yesterday when driving home noticed it appeared larger than usual. Upon getting home too a picture, as the airbag seam had begun to split and can see a red foam like substance through the split. Called local Toyota dealership and individual I spoke with was vague, had never heard of anything similar or any airbag recalls with Toyota. Seemed distracted and rushed, although it was about an hour til their official closing time. Proceeded to call Toyota customer service. Spoke with a very nice agent who searched for recalls based on my VIN number. She came up with no recalls but expressed similar concerns as myself of the airbag deploying and causing injury or accident. She assigned me a case number but advised me to have it looked at at a Toyota dealership. After researching online, it seems like a problem that many have noted. . . Same description and very similar pictures.

On July 6th I notice passenger side air bag on my Toyota Camry 2004 model is crack about 6 inches and look like it going to explore I'm extremely concern about this because I do not want anyone to get hurt especially when it can be avoid. I contact Toyota they told me to take to the dealer for an evaluation. I'm fearful because some time my daughter sits in the passenger side of this car and do not want her to get hurt. Toyota told me that there is no recall for this problem. Toyota also told me that the car is old and they might not be responsible to fix. . . I am a confuse by their respond because this is a manufacture problem not the customer. I can send picture, please let me know how I can do that. My husband will take the car to the dealer on July 8th please contact me with the process to repair. Thank you in advance gita.
We have a 2004 Toyota solara. Recently we have noticed several cracks/fractures in the dash board, primarily on the passanger side of the vehicle. Research has shown that this is a common problem with this model year. Toyota maintains the situation is cosmetic and not covered under warrantee or recall. Our concern is this is a possible safety issue, as the passanger side airbag is deployed through the dashboard. If the dashboard is weakened by this cracking. Would this increase the possibility the airbag deploying incrorrectly, thus raising the possibility of injury or death? we have a disabled daughter that frequently sits in the passanger side of the vehicle and we want to make sure the situation is safe for her.
