1 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2017

I was driving on the freeway at 60 - 65 mph. I am a cautious driver and am always aware of the conditions around me. Suddenly, my car just took off like a shot. It was going at an extremely high speed on the freeway. I had no control over it. There are dark skid marks on the road from my braking. I tried to turn the car to straighten it out, but the next thing I knew I had flipped into the median. I flipped two times in the air before crashing, hood first, on the median. I did nothing to cause this. I was merely driving, in the slow lane, at a safe speed. It is a miracle I am alive, and even more-so that I wasn't injured. The air bags did not deploy. At the end of the accident, my seat belt was unlatched. I am going to receive a citation for this. I have done research on 2005 Camry's since this happened, and have seen that it is a common problem. People have been killed from this fault and I nearly was. I want to know why Toyota didn't warn us of this. I know the VIN number says no recalls have been made on this model, but research tells me that involved research in self-accelerating gas pedals report disturbing evidence of problems potentially afflicting the electronic system governing the gas pedal, problems that Toyota and the highway safety agency have so far dismissed. (huffpost, 1/22/12) I am not a sue person, but I think Toyota should be held accountable for this flaw. This was a terrifying, horrible, unnecessary crash. I don't know when/if I'll get the courage to go behind the wheel again. It replays over and over in my mind. The terror is immense.

2 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2017

I, robert, was sitting in the car when my wife came out of the store and got into it. I put my foot on the brake and started the car. It took off at a very high rate of speed. The car lunged ahead and steadily picked up speed. The car hit a lady walking with her groceries, then hit a parked vehicle and pushed it into another vehicle. The air bag never deployed. The brakes would not work. The only thing that made it stop was that it hit a large SUV. My wife did not have time to fasten her seat belt, thus sustaining injuries. It all happened in a matter of seconds. There was a police report filed. I was not charged with the accident. I purchased the vehicle on may 24, 2017 at a public auction in washington, DC. That means that these vehicles are still being sold as if there is not a problem with them. The vehicle had about 240,000 miles when I purchased it. When we checked the internet, we found that there were hundreds of complaints. Beware!!!.

6 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

I own a 2005 solara sle v6 automatic: pulling into a restaurant parking space, making a right turn, the vehicle suddenly accelerated forward: jumping the curb, forward onto a muddy open space, an approx. Incline, and into a low barrier wall between the two neighboring restaurants' parking lots (with cars on the other-side of the barrier). Fortunately, no vehicles or persons were stuck!; just, the damage to my vehicle! when it accelerated, my foot was off the accelerator petal, about to brake; stood on my abs brake; and, the barrier, I believe, stopped most of the forward motion; hit hard; air bags did not deploy !!! nothing like this has ever happened to me before; not in any of my past vehicles !!! it's my understanding that Toyota is denying problems with the solara models, when they're the sporty model the the Camry !!! dealership said to contact corporate, but, this is not . . . Blame it on the driver for incorrect mats; mine are the originals hooked under the front seats !!! this is transmission control linkage to the accelerator petal !? when I backed up, off the muddy hill, I noticed the transmission was stiff/sluggish !!! 2nd topic - driver's left side leather seat panel for air bag: took it in due to panel splitting in two parallel spots (possible split leather material, rather than full hide ? too thin for side-air bag ! ) Toyota refused to fix this safety issue !!!.

7 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2014

Westbound on I-285, middle lane, a car stopped totally in front of us, at dusk. We had 5-6 vehicle lengths between us ,but momentarily did not realize the car in front was not moving, as she did not even put on her brake lights. We braked, hitting her in the rear bumper. We were nearly hit by a tractor trailer behind us, but mercifully, he was able to move the front of his rig to the right lane beside us. We realized almost immediately that our airbags did not deploy, either side. The seat belts really held us. We contacted Toyota requesting they pay for the diagnostic test to see if the airbags are functional. We sent a certified letter per their instructions 4/16/14. Their stated response time is two weeks, by letter. We still have not heard from them. While the car has had some small fender benders on its rear, it has never been in an accident of this magnitude. We own 2 Toyota Camry xles and are concerned our airbags. . . . Updated 07/15/14.

November 9th 2013 - as I pulled into a parking space with my foot on the brake, the car took off like a rocket and hit a small tree. When I put the car in reverse, again with my foot on the brake, it shot backward into a parked car. November 25th 2013 - again, pulling into a parking spot with my foot on the brake, the car shot forward, this time, it went right into a brick wall. Approximately 40 bricks rained down on the hood of the vehicle, the front end is smashed in, but this time, I had a passenger that was injured and kept overnight in the hospital. The airbags never deployed. The police that responded were shocked.

14 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2011

My 2005 Toyota Camry le was traveling at roughly 35 mph when it crashed into the rear end of a Jeep cherokee. The accident was a head on collision, which totaled the Camry. The airbags for the Camry did not deploy. The entire front end of the Camry, including the bumper was destroyed. Damages extended to the frame and all front end parts. I have pictures of the damage if needed. I spoke with Toyota and filed a complaint, but their response was less than satisfactory. They stated that there was not enough damage to the bumper to cause the airbag to deploy, and told me that there are only specific situations in which the airbags deploy. My position is that this was a direct head on collision that destroyed my 2005 Camry; their was front end frame damage, and every front end part from head light to head light was destroyed in the accident. My daughter was hurt in the accident, and this would not have happened if the air bag had deployed as advertised by Toyota.

23 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

On Mar. 1 2010 my wife was driving in city traffic at 30 mph when she rear- ended the car ahead. Her head hit the steering wheel and was rendered unconscious. The air bags never deployed despite major front end damage. Her memory of what happened was lost but she felt the car had jumped or surged just before. She was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry which has not yet been recalled. The car was totaled and Toyota doesn't feel the car might have a problem. When witnesses went to help, my wife had both feet on the brake pedal, the Toyota was still running at a fast idle and she was just beginning to regain her wits but could remember only that the car had jumped ahead. As Toyota has not included the 2005 Camry in it's recall I feel that maybe it should. My wife was not on the cell phone nor was she drinking or on medication. She is a safe driver and I believe the car raced ahead on its own.

24 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2010

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) my airbags did not deploy when I totaled my 2005 Toyota solara sle in a weather related accident. 25 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2010

I was in a multi-storey car park and I spotted a free space 20 yards ahead. I took my foot off the accelerator, and the vehicle begun to lose speed normally. I applied the brake gently to turn right into an empty spot. I was braking to a halt at an appropriate distance from a retaining wall when suddenly, with no warning, the Toyota lurched forward at an incredible rate of acceleration, struck the wall then bounced back several feet and the engine cut out. I suffered severe neck trauma, due first to the sudden acceleration and then the impact. The airbag did not deploy despite the fact that the damage to the front of the car was according to an expert consistent with an impact speed of 30 to 35 mph. Earlier in the same trip, I was stopped at traffic lights with the car in drive and my foot on the brake. Suddenly the car vibrated and lurched against the brake, trying to move ahead. I had to brake hard to prevent it from doing so. The lights changed and I proceeded towards the parking garage where the accident described above subsequently occurred. The damage to the front of the car has not yet been fixed and the car has not been used since the accident. I reported this accident to Toyota customer service who arranged for someone from their local service company to examine the vehicle at the body shop where it was located. The main conclusion of their examination was that they found no problem with the brakes. In fact, my complaint was not about the brakes, which had always worked perfectly normally. Their report also said "we are happy that you did not sustain injuries in this incident". I am sorry to inform them that I am still suffering from severe back and neck pain from the injuries that I sustained.
