Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the steering wheel was difficult to maneuver. The contact also stated that the engine revved up and the battery warning light illuminated as the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician diagnosed that the alternator pulley was not secured. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 36,000. Djr.

I took the car into the dealer on 22 Feb 2012, at which time the dealer verified the defect and stated "sop pulley" per their order # 751558. After several phone calls I sent a letter to the general manager requesting information and got no reply. The dealer is power Toyota at 9101 research dr. Irvine, CA 92618. The repair under the recall has not been done.

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Camry. The contact received notifications of NHTSA campaign id number: 11v539000 (engine and engine cooling) and took the vehicle to the dealer for recall repairs. The dealer stated to the contact that the crank shaft pulley was not defective. The contact however stated that he had experienced problems with the power steering, as stated in the recall. The dealer suggested to the contact to replace the power steering pump. The contact called the manufacturer regarding the denial of recall repairs and the manufacturer advised the contact that they would have to stand by the decision of the technicians at the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 180,000.

When driving on highway, there was some noise coming from the engine compartment, and suddenly I lost power steering and lights flashed on the front panel. I managed hard to pull off the vehicle from the highway, it was so hard make turns to the ramp. The engine temperature started to fluctuate. There was little smoking come out, I had to stop there. It was turned out there was a belt fell out and my alternator eventually died. My car is 4-cylinder, not 6.

The retaining nut for the alternator pulley came off the shaft causing the pulley to wobble which led to the loss of the serpentine belt; without the belt I lost power steering, the battery began to run low and the engine started to overheat. Fortunately I was 2 miles from home and was able to make it there w/o any damage to the vehicle. The vehicle was still under warranty, ~19,000 miles on the odometer, and was repaired by the dealer. The belt and the alternator assembly were replaced.
