1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2025

When slowly finishing my entry into a parking spot and braking the car suddenly accelerated to a high speed and bolted over the curb with a planter zone into another parked car directly facing my parking lane hitting the front passenger side. My car was still accelerating and hit another car to the left of the first parked car, hitting it in the rear driver side door. My car kept going until I was finally able to get the brake to work and it stopped just before another parking lot curb with planter zone. As far as I can tell the brake and or accelerator malfunctioned dangerously and suddenly. It could also have been a malfunctioning tps (throttle positioning sensor). I would like my car inspected to determine what caused this malfunction. While everyone involved said they felt fine. One person, in the first car hit, was sitting in the driver seat, luckily no one was in the front passenger seat. That driver said she was ok. The second car was unoccupied. This dangerous incident had no warnings or symptoms prior to the accident. My online research shows that there was a recall that included my make and year for sticky pedal, floormat, and deformed accelerator cable housing. These can cause unintended acceleration or unresponsive pedal. According to the Toyota website my VIN has no outstanding recalls though. I would like my car checked out because any recall repair, if done, may not have been done thoroughly enough to prevent the collision I experienced on September 28, 2025, some 15 years or so after the 2010 recall.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2023

Unattended acceleration. I was on a slight incline, trying to enter the highway. I was stopped with my foot on the break with all of a sudden acceleration, and I started to surge forward. I kept my foot on the break and kept the car from moving forward, but it did seemed to it, going into high gear to want to move forward. Then put it in neutral and in reverse to back up a couple feet so that I wasn’t hit by a moving car on the highway. And then drove the car home. And Toyota to report the problem.

In the last several years the dashboard is sticky and cracking. I am not only concerned about the glare and white residue but also the potential effect on the airbags. 12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2017

While pulling into a parking spot at minimal rate of speed in a residential parking lot. I experienced random acceleration of my vehicle. Despite applying the brake the vehicle would not stop accelerating. I turned my vehicle into a metal pole to keep it from temporarily moving forward. Due to the acceleration & friction, the asphalt under the car was burned, the left front tire exploded as did the passenger side window. The entire right front side of the vehicle was totaled. I was finally able to get the vehicle to stop by turning off the ignition.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2016

I initially had an unexpected acceleration, but was able to stop the car and didn't know why it had happened. I was unaware that this was a common issue. Later I was backing out of a parking space, then switched to drive in attempt to go forward. The car accelerated w/o my touching the gas. I couldn't stop the car and it plowed into several other cars. I didn't understand why this had happened. The police came and assumed it was my fault because after having this happen, I was confused. They took the car to a body shop that did the repairs. No one mentioned this is a common problem w/toyotas. By the time I heard about sudden unintended acceleration (sua), I contacted Toyota. As the insurance company had already arranged to have the car fixed before I called, the investigator said they wouldn't even look at the car as it had been repaired. Then I had a 3rd incident where I'd come to a stop, but the car began to accelerate. Initial date estimate was a guesstimate for mid-October acceleration. 11. 21. 16 was the accident, which resulted in over $7,000 damage to my car and more was paid towards the cars I hit. The most recent acceleration was January 16, 2017. To date Toyota has on reattached the carpets, so I am concerned this car is still a risk to my life & that of others.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2016

On Monday July 18th 2016 at approximately 1:30 p. M. I pulled my 2005 Toyota Camry into the parking lot handicap spot at bagger dave's located 50570 gratiot, chesterfield michigan 48051. As I was preparing to put the vehicle in park the vehicle suddenly accelerated forward very hard and very fast I attempted to apply the brakes three separate times and the car was still moving forward at the same rate on the fourth try I use both feet to press on the brakes very hard jamming the brake pedal into the floor rendering my body into a 180 degree angle position stretched out completely with an arched back. I am only 5 ft 1 in tall. I waited then I put the car in park at that time and just sat in the vehicle. Upset crying shocked fearful I looked to my right and there were three witnesses a woman and her two daughters entering the restaurant and standing approximately 5 feet from a vehicle. They witnessed the entire incident from that close vantage point offered assistance helping me out of the vehicle the manager came out of the building call the police. The chesterfield police department arrived on scene and completed accident reports and complaint number 2016 - 13942 dated 7/18/16. The property damage was flower beds shrubberies and small trees. On my vehicle as far as I could see when the car was bad from the dirt back on to the cement something was hanging from underneath my car it appeared to be some long metal object which came off my car upon driving a vehicle home very slowly with my hazards on about 5 miles an hour I noticed the wheels front wheels are squeaking and somewhat difficult to turn left or right the vehicle is sitting in my driveway and has not been moved. Witness sarah store manager, 5867651531 chesterfield police dept. Chesterfield mi 48051 macomb county accident complaint # 2016-13942 officer ogden.

The car hesitate during acceleration. After applying brakes, when you are trying to gain speed, you notice is significantly. No check engine light though.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2015

My passenger airbag indicator was illuminating the "off" light when an adult was seated in my passenger seat. Diagnostics done at a Toyota dealership indicated I needed a new occupant detection ecu. It failed for unknown reasons. This was a $670 fix. They installed a new one and it did not work. They then installed another one, which did not work properly either. Finally, they installed a third one and it wasn't working properly either. I was told by the service guy that they were using parts that had "returned" stickers on the box and had already been opened. I was told that genuine, new parts were what I was being quoted for, but the service technician clearly stated that they were trying to install parts into my vehicle that had been returned for some reason. I am very concerned that Toyota is installing parts into my vehicle that were found to be defective in other vehicles. . ? I am also very concerned that the sensors that are supposed to activate the airbag, which is a vital safety feature, are not working. This is not something that should stop working in a vehicle of this age and mileage.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2015

The hesitate to accelerate I. E. After accelerating a bit, it slows down or rather do not accelerate. So it causes difficult to merge and the drivers behind the car may hit.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2015

I was driving on a city street at about 35mph when rough, somewhat grinding noises came from under the right side of the car hood of the 2005 Toyota Camry. These noises continued for about 15 minutes while I was driving. I stopped at a red light. When I had the right-of-way and attempted to proceed, I found I could not turn the steering wheel. I thought the car was inoperable but when I exerted great effort, the wheel did turn. Fortunately, I was able to turn a corner and move into a public parking lot. Again with great steering difficulty and noise from below the car hood, I drove the car about a quarter of a mile to my home and the car was towed to a service center.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2014

At around 3:00 pm, I was in my car, driving at a very low rate of speed, approximately a couple of miles per hour, to move into a line of cars at a gas station. Suddenly, without warning – and on its own – my car surged forward and accelerated. As my car sped forward, the engine seemed to rev higher, making a loud noise. I tried to stop the car with the brake, but the car did not stop. During this awful event, my car crashed into two different cars, one of which was occupied, and one of which was parked with no occupant. Finally, my car came to a stop. The air bags in my car did not deploy. Paramedics and police came to the scene. There was a police report. I was taken to the hospital and checked. My understanding from my insurance company is that there is a claim for injury by one of the individuals in the occupied car. My car was impounded. My insurance company has informed me that my car is a total loss, and has been branded “non-repair. ” I have been informed by my insurance company that they and Toyota will conduct a joint investigation of the car. Note: as I read and understand the safercar. Gov website (powered by NHTSA), it appears that as of this date, there are 625 complaints regarding the 2005 Toyota Camry, with apparently 249 of them – almost 40% – reported in the vehicle speed control category. The reports list numerous injuries and even deaths. I request that NHTSA investigate the matter of unintended acceleration in the 2005 Toyota Camry. I believe that all 2005 Toyota Camrys should be recalled. It is my hope that other such accidents can be prevented in the future, and that injury, death and property damage can be averted.

Trunk cable became loose from the trail, which led to trunk lid closing abruptly and fast.

21 Equipment problem

Dashboard is crumbling.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2014

Bringing up speed on freeway entrance to merge with traffic going 65 mph of more. I got up to 45 and my car stalled as if losing power, it did this for a few seconds (enough to almost get me hit), it suddenly jerked forward and accelerated up to 60mph at which time I tapped my brakes and the car started driving normally. It also does this when I am in a situation that I have to brake suddenly. It drags before I can accelerate again to whatever speed I am going. When slow in a lot of traffic it almost stops on me.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2014

While the car was in park, before turning off, it accelerated rapidly out of control. Driver was not immediately able to stop. A concrete slab and fence were crashed by the out of control automobile.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

My car experiences a lag between the time when I press the gas pedal and when the car actually starts to move. The lag can last up to 2 seconds and presents a critical safety issue which has led to couple of near miss accidents in intersections and changing lanes. This feels like it would if your car stalled in the middle of the intersection and then the light changed or accelerate to change lanes while it trys to flow with the traffic. A technical service bulletin was issued for certain VIN solaras which reflashed the ecu to a new program in an effort to reduce the lag but my car is not under this issue. I also find out that many of other solara owners said this was not an effective corrective action. Toyota has no solution at this time and this puts my and others' safety at risk.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

I had parked in a parking space and was going to open my drivers door to get out. I had my keys in my hand and was reaching over to get my purse. I suddenly realized I was not in my parking place and had rolled backwards (lot was on a slope) and had hit the restaurants garbage can. I discovered at that point that my car was not in park and the ignigtion was turned off. In further checking I now know I can remove my car keys at anytime. Engine running or turned off, car in park or not. It does not matter. I can be driving down the road and remove my keys. The safety factor of keys not coming out of the ignition unless the car is in park and turned off is not there. Date of incident is approximate but I can verify if needed with the insurance company as the restaurant put in a claim for the dent on their garbage can.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

Car was purchased new in wisconsin 2004. Moved car to florida in 2009. Car sits in garage for 6 months of the year. We arrived in florida in October 2012 and took the car out of garage. It sat in parking lot for one hour. We noticed the dashboard had a bright shine and was sticky. When you put it back in garage it goes back to normal. Back out in the heat and sun it once again appears to be melting. Very difficult to drive with the glare. Took it to dealer to have it checked out. Was told this was a problem but since the car was no longer under warranty there was nothing they could do. Just recently heard on the news about others having this problem and was given this safercar. Gov site to report this problem. As of this date the car continues to "melt" when outside and no help from dealer.

I own a 2005 Toyota Camry. The speaker grills are plastic and now have crumble into little pieces. My concern is this makes the car look terrible because you can see from the outside of the car. . For ex. I was riding with friends and were getting in the car.
