When slowly finishing my entry into a parking spot and braking the car suddenly accelerated to a high speed and bolted over the curb with a planter zone into another parked car directly facing my parking lane hitting the front passenger side. My car was still accelerating and hit another car to the left of the first parked car, hitting it in the rear driver side door. My car kept going until I was finally able to get the brake to work and it stopped just before another parking lot curb with planter zone. As far as I can tell the brake and or accelerator malfunctioned dangerously and suddenly. It could also have been a malfunctioning tps (throttle positioning sensor). I would like my car inspected to determine what caused this malfunction. While everyone involved said they felt fine. One person, in the first car hit, was sitting in the driver seat, luckily no one was in the front passenger seat. That driver said she was ok. The second car was unoccupied. This dangerous incident had no warnings or symptoms prior to the accident. My online research shows that there was a recall that included my make and year for sticky pedal, floormat, and deformed accelerator cable housing. These can cause unintended acceleration or unresponsive pedal. According to the Toyota website my VIN has no outstanding recalls though. I would like my car checked out because any recall repair, if done, may not have been done thoroughly enough to prevent the collision I experienced on September 28, 2025, some 15 years or so after the 2010 recall.
The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Camry. The contact’s brother performed brakes repair on the vehicle and added prestone dot 3 brake fluid to the brake reservoir. The contact stated that several days later while driving at approximately 25 mph, the brakes locked up and the vehicle failed to move. The vehicle was taken to the brother’s residence by her brother, while driving and depressing the accelerator and brake pedal simultaneously. The contact’s brother flushed the brake lines however, the failure persisted. The contact’s brother became aware of NHTSA campaign number: 24e101000 (service brakes, hydraulic, steering) from the NHTSA. Gov website. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that there was cross contamination of the braking system and the entire braking system needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
While going about 15mph the car accelerated on its own . Had a hard time finally stopping vehicle breaking and put the car in neutral.
Brake pedal is "stuttering" at quick stops. When traffic light turns yellow and I press down brake firmly, the brake works, then releases by itself. I have to quickly press it again to actually stop vehicle. This "stutter" causes the car to lurch forward a few feet. It's a bit scary to not have control over braking appropriately. Should be a recall on brakes!!!! dangerous!!! happening consistently for last 3 months!!!.
Takata recalled on the highways my shaking and didn't want to stop.
Previous odi 10576595, 2 April 2014/ today 25aug2017: at approx. 1910-1915 hrs I was driving south on bell Ave. Approaching hurley Ave, in sacramento, CA. , when for the third time I have experienced vehicle acceleration while braking. The second time, I was driving in the late evening, 2200, to the movies; approaching arden and fulton, same thing, braking and the vehicle accelerated almost hitting the vehicle in front of me; that time my actions of standing on the brake and turning off the ignition key kept me from hitting the other car. This second incident happened maybe 2 months ago! I considered that maybe my sandal got caught on the brake pedal, which is why I did not make an immediate report! now I know for sure that it is and always has been a tautly problem with the braking, engine rev/acceleration problem! Toyota denies that this problem happens with the solara! tonight, I also stood on my brakes when I heard the engine rev and the car accelerated, hitting the vehicle in front of me. The vehicle was pushed out into the intersection, but, not into cross traffic! instead of the stuck vehicle crossing through the intersection and pulling over, they/he/she sped off down bell about? to northrup and turned left. I called chp and the made a report: ncic 9250 / officer 19071. Tried pulling up my previous report via VIN# and odi# and found nothing on file! what gives? the first incident occurred during the period of Toyota dealing with massive vehicle recall for the same problem; solara's were not on the list at that time, and the denied that this was also a problem with solara's. What I perceive as a problem is that only Toyota can read the black box; and, can claim whatever they want the analysis to be. Which, is totally unfair to the victomized owner!!!!!!!!!!!! street speed 35 mph, braking for intersection, engine rev and acceleration!.
I, robert, was sitting in the car when my wife came out of the store and got into it. I put my foot on the brake and started the car. It took off at a very high rate of speed. The car lunged ahead and steadily picked up speed. The car hit a lady walking with her groceries, then hit a parked vehicle and pushed it into another vehicle. The air bag never deployed. The brakes would not work. The only thing that made it stop was that it hit a large SUV. My wife did not have time to fasten her seat belt, thus sustaining injuries. It all happened in a matter of seconds. There was a police report filed. I was not charged with the accident. I purchased the vehicle on may 24, 2017 at a public auction in washington, DC. That means that these vehicles are still being sold as if there is not a problem with them. The vehicle had about 240,000 miles when I purchased it. When we checked the internet, we found that there were hundreds of complaints. Beware!!!.
When I reversed from a parking space the car accelerated so rapidly I couldn't control the speed. I had to slam on the brake as hard as I could! tried to return to parking spot. The car continued to accelerate it jumped the curb and was stopped by trees!! absolutely terrifying!!.
March 19th 2016, driving on a city street when the car suddenly accelerated. Applied the brakes/emergency brake. Car continued to accelerated and I attempted to enter freeway. I was unable to turn the steering wheel and I hit a car that was entering the freeway.
On March 19, 2016, I was driving my Toyota 2005 Camry at approximately 35 mph, when the car suddenly accelerated. I applied the brakes, emergency brake and put the car in park. The car continued to accelerate and I attempted to approach the freeway on ramp. I was unable to turn the steering wheel. I crossed a raised island and into the freeway lane and hit a car that was driving onto the freeway ramp. Both cars were damaged. My car was totaled. I was transported to hospital and was discharged from emergency room.
While driving from friends home to pickup kids from school, I was going on a 2 lane road going east bound, car was travelling @ 30 mph on startight road of speed limit 35mph, all of sudden steering and brakes did not function due to which the car was about to collide with a tree head on, all of the sudden the streering and brakes started functioning and I tried to avoid the tree collision during which the trunk of the car hit the trunk of the tree. I pulled the car to the curb of the road.
The brakes turn off when riding over a rough surface. I know how abs works. There is nothing that should trigger the abs. I know how it works over snow. The brakes work fine over smooth surface. But if braking over a pothole the abs unnecessarily turns on causing the vehicle to skid and slide much further than normal stopping distance. No other car I have driven in my life has done this. This seriously needs to be investigated. It has been happening on my car since 2005. Toyota dealer has refused to address issue. And I see many others have posted the same complaints to nhtsb, but no recall campaign has been addressed by Toyota.
Car accelerated from stop at atm . Car would not stop. Hit two parked cars.
Car stopped to allow garage gate to raise/open at which time the car, which was initially in park, was put in drive with foot on brake - car then went completely out of control at a significant speed crashing into a cement pillar which is what stopped the car - the pillar. The airbags were deployed, the car was totaled as designated by the insurance company. An attempt was made to stop the car with the emergency brake to no avail. Injuries of 3 passengers are very significant - 8 broken ribs of one passenger, 2 broken legs and removal of spleen to another passenger and the driver suffered a compound fracture of ankle. Recovery and rehabilitation are still pending and one passenger may not recover.
Pulling into parking space at dept store, vehicle accelerated, took both feet on brake pedal to hold car, shifted into neutral, tach jumped very high, then vehicle returned to normal idle. Myself and my son where in car.
On Jan. 5, 2012 around 10:00 a. M. I was accelerating up hill at the speed of 50 mpg. When I let up on the gas pedal my car continued to accelerate. I started applying the brakes but it didn't help. As the car kept going faster I went into a panic mode applying the brakes, pulling back on the emergency brakes as far as I could, and trying to shift into nuetral or park or anything to get my car to stop. I went off the road at the same time I got it into park. Stopping abruptly I jumped from the car the wheels still spinning and smoke puoring form the wheel wells. I was pretty hysterical from my ordeal but had the sense to reach in and turn off the key. I called my husband and sat down and cried until he got there. We had the car towed to Toyota in napa CA. And yesterday (Jan. 11, 2011) they called to say they can't find anything wrong and we can pick up the car anytime we want. Please help me !!!! this wasn't just a figument of my imagination. It happened for some reason. Do they really think I ever want to drive this car again??? I feel very grateful to walk away with my life. If there had been more traffic or no place to go off the road or in a worse case senerio driving the 10 mile mountain road from town to my house I probably wouldn't have. I feel the need to tell as many people as I can to save some one else from this.
Car feels like its going to flip over when driving past 60. Had to have brakes changed twice. Car has accelerated while driving at least twice in a two year span when driving over 60 miles per hour. Biggest problems are the wheels which make the car ride seem unstable but only got tires rotated once; however, vehicle seems to run lop-sided?.
The contact owned a 2005 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, he noticed a burning odor. Another driver noticed flames coming from under the hood on the passenger side and alerted the contact. The contact attempted to stop the vehicle, but the brakes would not respond after depressing the brake pedal continuously. The contact jumped out of the vehicle and the vehicle came to a stop when it crashed into the divider on the road. The contact sustained severe scrapes to her left foot, legs, and arms. The contact was then transported to the hospital for treatment. After being released, the contact suffered muscle spasms and was rushed back to the hospital for further treatment. The fire and police departments reported to the scene and reports were filed. The vehicle was towed to a junk yard where the insurance company inspected the vehicle and determined that the vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and sent an inspector to determine the cause of the fire. The manufacturer stated that the cause of the fire was undetermined, but the representative stated that there was corrosion found on the air conditioner hose. The manufacturer would not supply the customer with the investigation report. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 137,000.
3 cases: all at low speed (4-5mph) following 90-degree turn, application of brake causes car to accelerate, over space of c. 1 year, 2 collisions. Dealer "scanned system and performed health check. " reported "all systems functioning properly, gas and brake pedal are secure and in correct position. ".
I was trying to park my car at the green farmer market when instead of braking the car kept going. I pressed down on the brake but the car kept gliding hitting a pole and continuing to move towards the gas station. The car finally slammed into the concrete gas station sign and stopped. The air bag did not deploy.
2005 Toyota Camry. Consumer states he experienced a sudden loss of the brakes on a bumpy or uneven roadway.
While attempting to park in the parking space in front of a building, the vehicle (2005 Toyota Camry sl) accelerated on its own, jumping the curb, crashing into the railing and the building wall. Police impounded vehicle as it was unsafe. In the seconds prior to the crash, my foot was off the accelerator and I was in the process of braking because I was entering the parking space in the lot. Vehicle is now at a body shop awaiting to be fixed but not before this is reported to Toyota.
2005 Toyota Camry. When applying the brakes on rough pavement (railroad tracks, potholes, large bumps) the brakes seem to release or let go. I have complained to the dealership about this shortly after getting the car. They tried to tell me that it was the antilock brakes and that I wasn't used to driving with them. I have complained to the dealership one other time and they cleaned and adjusted my brakes and charged me. The car still has this issue which sounds a lot like the ones that the recent model prius cars are having.
I was driving along I 95 in fla. When my car accelerated with out warning to a speed greater than the law allowed,I immediately applied my brakes, and the car would not stop. I worked my way over to the left lane, and drove onto the shoulder against the concrete retaining wall, applying my brakes in this process. I put the car in neutral and it still continued at a fast pace, applying my brakes, and brushing along the retaining wall, thus slowing the car to a stop.
Brakes sometimes does not work properly. I need to press the brake pedal all the way to stop the car. Acceleration sometimes does not work properly either.
I am an owner of a 2005 Toyota Camry. I purchased my car brand new. The first winter snow fall, while driving I experienced a hesitation with my brakes. I contacted the dealer, and was informed the brakes were fine. This continuously happens when the road conditions are slippery and wet. In chicago, we received approx. 10 in. Of snow and as recent as today, my car almost did not stop! I almost ran into the back of another car and I nearly had an accident. The brakes sort of throttled with hesitation. I am concern that my Toyota is not one that is being recalled, however, it should be!.
I had an accident on the 22nd of January, 2010. When I exited the freeway, I tried to use the brake, but the car would not stop. It went faster and hit a tree. My car was damaged. Another thing is that I noticed that my rear speaker covers were cracked on both sides. A close look shows that the cover has disintegrated and become weak. When you touch it, it crumbles into little pieces. This is a very unusual thing; I have never experience this in other cars before. I don't know what the exact problem is. I think that Toyota should be responsible for this. My car is a 2005 Toyota Camry le model.
I have a 2005 Toyota Camry. I have experienced a few times, the last in January of this year, sudden acceleration. I t was enough for me to say "whoa;" I felt it should be reported in light of the Toyota issues.
I own a 2005 Toyota Camry and every time I brake on ice or snow my brakes make a loud grinding and vibrating noise. I reported the concern to the dealership several times and they continue to say it's normal abs working like they should. I have never had a car that has ever made this type of grinding sound when braking in the snow. We also own a corolla and it doesn't make this sound.
I got a car accident in 12/18/2009. I rented a Nissan car when my Toyota Camry was in auto shop. When I was driving the Nissan I felt the brake system was so different between my car and the Nissan car. Then I talked with my friend who also has a Toyota Camry le 2005. He told me the same thing that I do everyday regarding how to push the brake pedal. As long as the speed is over 10 miles, when I push the brake pedal and try to stop my car, the car neither stops nor speeds down, the car rather speeds up (accelerates) first, then speeds down. The brake system makes me always stay away certain distance from the car in front of me and get alarmed by the drivers who were behind of me. The Nissan car stopped immediately when I pushed the brake pedal. I took my car to the dealer to try to tell them the brake problem, no body wanted to talk with me and they let me go.
Car located in omaha, ne, being driven east from 42nd and curtis avenue, downhill at approximately 41st and curtis Ave (car speed up on level area to compensate for the computer systems ability to slow the car down or prevent coasting), my 2005 Toyota se hit a parked car, airbags deployed and the car continued to drive an additional block after the brakes were applied. Car hit a dirt road/ditch and bounced and landed into a private yard located on the southeast side of the road. The hill in the private yard stopped the car from continuing on.
The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Camry. While exiting a parking lot, the vehicle began to accelerate without intention. After repeated brake application the vehicle would not stop. Consequently he crashed through a fence and then into a building. The air bags did deploy. However he and his wife were injured (his wife had a fractured vertebrae and other issues) as a result of the failure. A police report was taken. The vehicle was completely destroyed. The manufacturer was notified, and representative was sent to inspect the brakes. The current and failure mileages were approximately 25,000.
The contact owned a 2005 Toyota Camry. He stated that the brakes continued to lock while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they could not duplicate the failure. The manufacturer stated that they did not have any additional complaints similar to his. On a separate occasion, while driving at speeds of approximately 25 mph through a school zone, the vehicle abnormally accelerated to the right and crashed into a pole. The driver attempted to stop the vehicle by depressing the brakes, to no avail. The vehicle was destroyed and a police report was filed on scene. The contact was transported to the hospital and suffered moderate injuries and bruises. The manufacturer investigated the vehicle further and could not find any technical errors in the vehicle. The cause of the crash was inconclusive. The failure mileage was 40,000. The VIN was not available. Updated 04/27/10. Updated 07/08/10.
The day the car caught fire, owner was driving the car on the freeway, owner exited freeway, drove several blocks, turned right then the car stalled; owner steered the car to the side of the road using the momentum left in the vehicle. Owner heard pedestrians screaming to exit the car. Owner saw smoke coming out of the left side of the car. Owner grabbed her purse and exited the car in a hurry, leaving the car key in the ignition. As soon as owner exited the car, the car's door locks locked themselves, owner heard the clicking noise of the door locks. Then there was an explosion, and there was fire coming out from the left side underneath the front of the car. Owner screamed for help, then went looking for a fire extinguisher, but could not find any. The car kept on burning for 20 minutes until the fire truck arrived, firemen extinguished the fire, but the car's doors were all locked, the firemen broke the windshield and side windows to have access to the inside of the car to completely extinguish the flames. The car was declared total loss and was towed away. We the owners of this Toyota Camry 2005 have recuperated the towed vehicle. We communicated to Toyota the situation with the car. They answered saying: there was no recall for that vehicle and therefore would not do anything about it. The car showed electrical problems, jerked sporadically, turned off while running on the road. The car would restart on its own, sometimes it would have to be restarted manually. The car showed intermittent electrical problem, problem with the abs braking system. Actually since we bought the actually since we bought the car brand new, the dealership said that this was normal behavior with the Toyota abs system, and dismissed it as normal, they said that the corporate had informed them to say exactly that; this was a normal behavior with the Toyota abs braking system. We the owner are following the events of Toyota recalls, and specially news of defects kept away from public.
Vehicle lurched forward while brake pedal was depressed on to separate occasions.
