8 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2014

Vehicle referenced left target, stoughton,MA, parking lot at 12:10pm-11-11-14 (with 7yr old grandson car seated behind driver & driver was in seatbelt). When existing lot, another car backed out of parking space and hit rt, back end of ref car. Driver of ref vehicle looked behind at vehicle that struck her and, as she turned forward & barely stepped on gas to move away from vehicle that hit her, there was a loud clicking noise, tires started spinning and car took off accelerating w/o control of brakes, shift or steering. Ref vehicle hit curb, accelerated up hill from parking lot and went airborne, crashed down into guardrail at approx 45-50mph and airbags did not deploy. Driver is sure ref vehicle would have continued traveling forward if not for guardrail! driver of vehicle (and grandson) were taken in ambulance to hospital and in triage all day. Driver suffered head and eye injuries and hematomas from neck down. Grandson reported slight back pain and was released. Thankfully, neither of ref vehicle's occupants were maimed or died. After much research, found there are 2006 Toyota Camrys with etc issues. Again, no control of any aspect of car - could not put in neutral, gear shift just "floated" over all gears when trying to use! would like for NHTSA to inspect gas pedal for "whiskers" or other problems that led to this. As driver of this vehicle, I can honestly state that I have a great driving record and I am not prone to "driver error" putting foot on gas pedal instead of brake (and accelerating to that distance) and there was no carpet for pedal to stick under. Checked Toyota dealership where my mom purchased this car (she passed prior to this). They informed me that there were no recalls for this VIN#. Makes me wonder about airbag deployment as well. None of this should have happened! any feedback from you would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

11 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2013

I was traveling north on rte. 209, passing the green light. When a Ford focus traveling south on rte. 209 made a left turn, causing a collision with my car. I impacted his car in rear section around the tire, bending his tire. The air bags in the Toyota did not deploy which I believe caused more damage to my back. The other driver was written a citation (vr3322) in the PA violations section. My wife was able to drive car to our house 3-4 miles away. I was transported to pocono medical center. Their exam was a joke. I am going to see an orthopedic doctor on 11/12/2013. The pain has increased a lot since accident. I believe if the air bags had deployed I might have been spared more pain. I am insisting on a cat scan, mri, & xrays on my back to compare to previous tests done in 2009. I feel Toyota should be held accountable for defective air bags. If this had been a major crash I do not think my wife and I would be doing very well. This is inexcusable for the air bags to fail. Lives depend on them working!.

12 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2013

Driving home from work I hit a large deer, approximately 200 pounds, at 45 mph, direct front end contact, causing damage to the whole front hood, grille, both front fenders, radiator, headlights, air conditioning system. Air bags did not deploy, no injury to me. Received my car from the body shop October 25th and everything looked great. After driving approximately 800 miles noticed a little body misalignment and on the 18th of October I drove to the body shop to have them look at the alignment problem and check the air bag warning light. They are working on the body issue, which I could care less about, however, after doing a scan of the car systems, with the hand held scanner, the air bag warning is not a sensor issue due to the collision with the deer, but it is in the passenger seat sensor/wiring which should be a Toyota issue. I have researched this and there are several complaints online, but I have not seen a re-call from Toyota, the fix for this situation is to replace the passenger seat at a cost of about $3400. 00. My biggest concern is why did the air bags not deploy and now is the total air bag system not functioning?.

13 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2013

Airbags did not deploy. Car hit a light pole at 45 miles per hour.

14 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2013

Struck from rear by another driver at high rate of speed; was thrown forward into driver side interior door panel and driver's head struck the convertible top metal top-folding structure. Believe the seat belt tensioner device failed to function properly and the air bag failed to deploy, as well. The convertible top for this model was in the up position at impact. The air bags did not deploy and the seat belt caused both the driver and passenger to lurch forward, causing serious bodily damage to both parties. Driver sustained brain injury and spinal injury and is still receiving treatment and surgery for his injuries. Passenger is also receiving on-going treatment for spinal and knee injury sustained as the result of the seat belt tensioner and air bag failure, as well.

I am the manager at renty car rental. We have been experiencing many problems with our Toyota's clock spring. This part has been going defective and turning the air bag light on. This has happened with 3 of our Toyota's. It has become quite an issue. These are expensive parts to replace, and we must replace them as soon as we find the problem. We are very scared that this item might fail and the airbag might not deploy.

22 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2008

At 27 months into the cars standard warranty (less than 5000 miles) the dash pad across the entire front of the car began to show signs of cracks in random areas, of varying lengths including areas where the airbags are stored. My closest Toyota dealership (south dade Toyota) in homestead , FL. Inspected the damaged areas, completed no paper work and stated "this is a common problem for some Toyota and Lexus models and there is nothings that can be done short of the customer paying for a new dash pad assembly and it's installation". My wife is afraid to drive her car, and we are afraid to sell the car for fear of liability that the air bags might not deploy when needed or deploy in an unintended manner. Toyota continues to avoid the issue despite the fact there are 100's of affected owners using theses damaged vehicles.

23 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2007

2006 Camry. . . . While inching my car forward in my driveway to position the car to back it up, I was applying the brake and moving at a speed of no more than 2-3 mph. The car started to accelerate which kept increasing. I was taken by surprise, didn't know what was happening. I looked down at the accelerator to make sure it wasn't me. My foot was on the brake. Before I knew it, I hit head on the very large tree at the end of my driveway. I was approximately 4 ft from the tree when the engine started revving. I had my seat belt on, which saved me from smacking my face on the steering wheel. My head jerked forward and I had a tremendous headache afterwards with pain in my neck. The air bag did not deploy. I put the car in park and my husband reached in the window and turned the engine off. When I started it up again, there was no problem and I carefully moved it away from the tree. The force with which I hit the tree pushed in my front end and also did some damage under the hood since the power steering fluid was leaking. I am currently waiting for the insurance adjustor to check this out. He did say that if he doesn't experience the same problem, he doesn't know what can be done by Toyota. Needless to say, I am anxious for the results and will not feel safe driving my car.
