7 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2015

My dashboard is sticky and is cracked from driver to passenger sides. Also is cracked where airbags are. Dashboard is also shiney and suns reflections makes it dangerous driving. I am afraid airbags will inflate.

8 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 04/21/2015

My airbags light is on and my airbags are not working making it very dangerous. I brought my into the dealer and he said that the computer system in the car is defective causing my airbag system to be inoperable. They will not fix it. I only have 49,000 miles on the car. I am concerned that if I am in a accident my airbags will not protect me.

9 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2014

I have been the one and only owner of a 2006 Toyota solara convertible sle that has been garage kept most of its life. Dashboard appears to be "melting" - has numerous cracks and is very sticky. The glare of the shiny sticky dashboard is distracting and a visual hazard. Have tried several products in an attempt to clean/unsticky the dashboard. Dealerships have stated that this is a result of intense daytime heat, and not a manufacturers defect. Several other Camry owners have stated the same complaint.

10 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2014

In August 2014, I noticed a hairline crack in the dashboard on the driver's side from the beginning edge of the dash up an around the steering wheel. A month later, an additional crack appeared on middle console ending at the stereo component. Cracks are increasing in number and length over time. Car has had a single owner, garaged, with meticulous care. I'm concerned that crack(s) could eventually pose a projectile problem in the event the airbag deploys and the dash comes apart in pieces during airbag deployment. Additionally, very disappointed to know this will affect resale value, something that makes owning a Toyota a reason to buy it initially.

11 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

I own a 2006 Toyota solara convertible. This car is garaged except when driven. Earlier this year I noticed small cracks developing around the edges of the dashboard. However, now the cracks have grown and there are some very large cracks. I am very concerned about the large cracks developing on the passenger side of the dashboard. Can these cracks affect the operation of the dashboard air bags??.

12 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2013

The 2006 Toyota Camry involved in a frontal collision (which is a total lost) does not has the airbags deployed at the moment of the accident as designed.

13 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2013

My 2006 solara convertible has deep cracks all along the dash end to end which may affect the operability of the airbag. It's shiny, goofy, sticky which definitely affects visibility. I have no idea what else it affects. I thought it was caused by heat until I read the some 75 exactly identical complaints. Toyota needs to recall the dash rather than ask we consumers to pay $2,400 to fix it. This was a $32,000 vehicle. Bad enough that the adhesive around the back window dissolved, now this. It's undrivable, unsaleable and I only have 27000 miles on it.

14 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2012

I was traveling sw around 35mph and entered an intersection with the green light. Another (unlicensed) driver also traveling at the same speed entered the intersection traveling ne, his light was red, but he ran it. My front end impacted his drivers side (near the front tire) both of his air bags deployed, yet neither of mine did. My front end (frame) bent like a v-shape, and fluid from the radiator drained onto the hot engine. I had to be evacuated from the car by the local emt and was taken by ambulance to emergency. I have photos that would love to share especially Toyota, so they can explain to me why the air bags failed, and put me into what is going to be months of therapy.

15 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

I am the first owner of the Toyota which now has 46,000 miles, and always been garaged. The problem is the dashboard which has many cracks in it and the dashboard is melting and sticky. This started about 2 years ago and is continuing to get worse with more deterioration. The safety issue problem is the dashboard is very shinny and makes it difficult to see when driving on a sunny day. The cracks in the dashboard are also a concern since they may interfere with the deployment of the dashboard air bags in an accident. Five years ago Toyota replaced all the defective vinyl window moldings on the car without my request. This show they may have a problem with their vinyl supplier. A local Toyota dealer, earl stewart Toyota, north palm beach, FL has requested Toyota make a no charge recall. This also is a problem with Lexus and Nissan vehicles. In the past few years Toyota has been able to conceal or been very slow to address known defects. I trust your agency can make Toyota comply with a speedy recall with no charge to the owners. Thank you.

16 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2011

The contact owns 2006 Toyota Camry solara. The contact stated the dashboard was cracked. The contact was concerned since the air bag was located underneath the dashboard and could deploy. The vehicle was not inspected by the dealer, but the contact was told that was a known problem. The failure mileage was unknown. The current mileage was 57,000.

17 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2010

I was pulling slowly into a parking space in front of an office building. When I gently applied the brake, the car suddenly zoomed forward and struck the front of the building, shattering a large glass window and its frame and area around it. This stopped the car. I put it into reverse and backed into the parking space. The air bag did not inflate. Fortunately, the occupant of that office had just left. Otherwise she would have been hit by flying glass. I had never before had trouble of this kind with this Toyota. The damage was repaired, but I sold the car to the auto body shop.

18 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2009

2006 Toyota Camry. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle sudden acceleration. The consumer stated on two separate occasions, he experienced sudden acceleration. The first time the accident happened, he was pulling into a parking space, and all of a sudden the vehicle accelerated, went over a curb and impacted the side of a building. He immediately shut the engine off, using the key. The air bad did not deploy. The second incident happened on June 30, 2014. He was pulling into a parking space, when the vehicle accelerated out of control, it went over a curb and into a fence. He immediately turned the key to the off position and the vehicle stopped. The air bad did not deploy in the second accident. The consumer sold the vehicle on August 27, 2014.

19 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2008

My dash is cracking and falling apart. What kind of engineering is this that the dash falls apart in such a short time in a car that is supposed to out last its competitors.

20 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2008

2006 solara has developed cracks in the vinyl covering of the dash pad. . . . Including areas around the air bags mounted in the dash. Car has 11,000 miles, stored inside and under a custom cover. In addition to the cracks, the vinyl covering is very sticky to the touch and emits a strong odor. Toyota declined to address the problem on two occasions while under warranty and has now washed their hands of the issue due to a lapsed warranty. The problem is affecting hundreds of owners of both Toyota and Lexus models yet Toyota asserts the problems are cosmetic. The car is seldom driven for fear the air bags might deploy and uncertain of the health issues related to the vinyl odors the car emits.

21 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2007

My Toyota Camry 2006, purchased on 3/29/06 was involved in two major accidents and it was totalled after the second major accident which occoured on 3/30/07. On the first major accident, my wife who was driving the vehicle, tried to stop the vehicle at the signal, instead it raced forward on its own and hit another vehicle. On the second major incident, after stopping the car and allowing another car to pass on the same road in the opposite direction, she made a left turn and the car accelerated uncontrollably and hit a big tree standing at an elevated part of the road. By looking at the scene anybody can come to the conclusion that some kind of malfunctioning of the acceleration mechanism has happened. In both of these major accidents, none of the air-bags deployed. The same car had another similar incident but no property was damaged and therefore, that incident was not reported to police but a CO-worker drove the vehicle out of the retaining pond. In this incident, my wife after parking the car, tried to pull it a little further and then the car jumped across the concrete bump and fell into the retaining pond. Luckly there was no water.
