3 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2015

The dashboard has become gummy and cracking causing a bright glare that makes it impossible to drive on bright sunny days. Last week I was crossing over a bridge and almost went over the side.

4 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2014

I have been the one and only owner of a 2006 Toyota solara convertible sle that has been garage kept most of its life. Dashboard appears to be "melting" - has numerous cracks and is very sticky. The glare of the shiny sticky dashboard is distracting and a visual hazard. Have tried several products in an attempt to clean/unsticky the dashboard. Dealerships have stated that this is a result of intense daytime heat, and not a manufacturers defect. Several other Camry owners have stated the same complaint.

5 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2014

I own a 2006 Toyota solara. Low mileage. My entire dash board is cracking apart fore some unknown reason. The surface is becoming gummy and shiny. Interferes with visiblility when driving. I took the vehicle to Toyota and they said it had to do with the material used. They would have to replace the dash. This is absurd. I have seen almost 100 similar complaints on the internet. They need to recall and make good on a defaulty dashboard that is hazardous.

6 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2014

My complaint is that the rear speaker covers have crumbled. It started with a crack then a hole. But the cover crumbled as soon as it was touched.

7 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2014

I have a Toyota Camry solara 2006, when I got my car, I feel in love with it, and it made me so happy, I also love convertibles, and I loved the way it felt, and I could sit up high instead of low, cause I have back problems. The other day I saw a crack in the dash, which broke my heart, and the next few day's, I saw more cracks over my steering wheel . My car is kept under a garage. I wanted to keep this care forever, cause it was so perfect for me, now this has really upset me, cause my beautiful car has cracks in it now, and I wonder what else is going to happen. I'm 58 years old and I want to have a nice car. I feel this is not fare, I was sure that Toyota's were great cars and I was set, but now I feel like my car is going to look awful and it is very upsetting to me. I think Toyota should do something about this. They should be ashamed to make cars like this. I just hope they can do something to fix my problem.

8 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2014

The problem is the dashboard which has many cracks in it and the dashboard is melting and sticky. We bought the car used in November 2013 and is continuing to get worse with more deterioration. The safety issueis the dashboard is very shinny and the glare on the windshield makes it difficult to see when driving on a sunny day. The cracks in the dashboard are also a concern since they may interfere with the deployment of the dashboard air bags in an accident.

9 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2014

The dashboard has cracked in several areas and the issue seems to be getting worse daily. I've contacted Toyota main headquarters complaint department several times and their response was that since the vehicle is out of warranty they will not fix it and it is my responsibility to correct the problem at my expense, I have heard and seen many reports that this is a systemic problem due to use of inferior parts used by Toyota and other manufacturers. Class action suits have been initiated to address this problem. I wish to formerly file my complaint with your agency as a point of record . Incidentally I had maintained a very expensive extended warranty policy for six years after my purchase and it seems strange that Toyota wasn't aware of this problem prior to it's expiration.

10 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2014

Dash cracks without reason. Not sure how the airbags deploy on this car but may pose a hazard during deployment. Energy absorption may be compromised by the many cracks. One owner, low miles and although parked outdoors always used a sun shield. This is the only car I've ever owned where the dash had cracked.

11 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

I own a 2006 Toyota solara convertible. This car is garaged except when driven. Earlier this year I noticed small cracks developing around the edges of the dashboard. However, now the cracks have grown and there are some very large cracks. I am very concerned about the large cracks developing on the passenger side of the dashboard. Can these cracks affect the operation of the dashboard air bags??.

12 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2013

My 2006 Toyota camary solara has dashboard cracks that just appeared in the past six months. This appears to be an issue with many solara owners.

13 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2013

I have two complaints. The major one is the rear speaker covers. They started in June of 2013 with a small hole. Now there is a large hole and the other one is cracked all across it. I am assuming it is melting. The other is the fabric is coming apart near the rear door curvature toward the back. Regular glue can't be used, it will burn.

14 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2013

My 2006 solara convertible has deep cracks all along the dash end to end which may affect the operability of the airbag. It's shiny, goofy, sticky which definitely affects visibility. I have no idea what else it affects. I thought it was caused by heat until I read the some 75 exactly identical complaints. Toyota needs to recall the dash rather than ask we consumers to pay $2,400 to fix it. This was a $32,000 vehicle. Bad enough that the adhesive around the back window dissolved, now this. It's undrivable, unsaleable and I only have 27000 miles on it.

15 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

Dashboard has visible cracks. Car has only 38000 miles, always garaged.

16 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2013

Since 2009 my dash board has been cracking and as I have search for a possible recall, I have been unable to find one that shows Toyota is taking responsibility on it. I have searched online and there seems to be a lot of people who have complained about their dash cracking and Toyota taking no ownership of a possible defect in it. As time progresses there are more crack that are appearing and I am afrad that it will get worse if my air bag on the passenger side deploys.

17 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2012

Multiple cracks/sprider web type in the dash board. Going around the top of the steering wheel, across the radio panel, below the glove box and above the glove box/air bag area and along the side door panel.

18 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2012

Interior plastic materials around the dash are melting. Material melting and cracking, sticky to the touch, causing visibility issues.

19 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

Dash is cracking for no reason and has become tacky/ sticky. . . You can't wipe the dust off it is so sticky. . . Cracks came out of no where.

20 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

I am the first owner of the Toyota which now has 46,000 miles, and always been garaged. The problem is the dashboard which has many cracks in it and the dashboard is melting and sticky. This started about 2 years ago and is continuing to get worse with more deterioration. The safety issue problem is the dashboard is very shinny and makes it difficult to see when driving on a sunny day. The cracks in the dashboard are also a concern since they may interfere with the deployment of the dashboard air bags in an accident. Five years ago Toyota replaced all the defective vinyl window moldings on the car without my request. This show they may have a problem with their vinyl supplier. A local Toyota dealer, earl stewart Toyota, north palm beach, FL has requested Toyota make a no charge recall. This also is a problem with Lexus and Nissan vehicles. In the past few years Toyota has been able to conceal or been very slow to address known defects. I trust your agency can make Toyota comply with a speedy recall with no charge to the owners. Thank you.

21 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

This is an ongoing issue with the dashboard that has been getting worse over time. Small cracks started appearing on the dashboard about 3 years ago. The surface of the dashboard became shiny and sticky. The shininess causes reflections on the inside of the windshield which makes visibility difficult at times. Over time the cracks have become bigger and more numerous and the dashboard has become more shiny and sticky. Parts of the dashboard are falling off exposing some kind of foam padding underneath.

22 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2010

When I purchased the car in 2010, it had some cracks above the glove compartment on the dashboard, which I took to have repaired at a cost of about $300. Since then, the cracks keep opening, to the point where they will have a serious impact on the resale of the car. I took the car to an auto body shop and have an estimate of $2200 to replace the entire dash. I took the car to a local Toyota dealer and got an estimate of $2400!! to replace the entire dash. No help whatsoever. I did some research and found that many Lexus automobiles have a similar problem and now learn that there are 73 complaints about the solara. It would be nice to know that someone is looking into the problem and perhaps that Toyota will be forced to make appropriate repairs.

23 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2009

Entire dasboard cracked and continued for severall months. There are multiple cracks all over the dashboard. My son had the same thing happen to his 2006 solara convertible two monts prior to ours. Both cars were always garaged and had very few miles on them. My son had about 18,000 and we had about 16,000. We both called Toyota and we were each told it was beyoned warranty and there was nothing they could do.

24 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2009

My dashboard is very badly cracked. Toyota says they have to replace the whole front dash at a cost of $1500. This defect will drastically affect the trade in value of this car. Pictures can be provided.

25 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2008

My dash is cracking and falling apart. What kind of engineering is this that the dash falls apart in such a short time in a car that is supposed to out last its competitors.

26 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2008

At 27 months into the cars standard warranty (less than 5000 miles) the dash pad across the entire front of the car began to show signs of cracks in random areas, of varying lengths including areas where the airbags are stored. My closest Toyota dealership (south dade Toyota) in homestead , FL. Inspected the damaged areas, completed no paper work and stated "this is a common problem for some Toyota and Lexus models and there is nothings that can be done short of the customer paying for a new dash pad assembly and it's installation". My wife is afraid to drive her car, and we are afraid to sell the car for fear of liability that the air bags might not deploy when needed or deploy in an unintended manner. Toyota continues to avoid the issue despite the fact there are 100's of affected owners using theses damaged vehicles.

27 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2008

Noticed hairline cracks in dash pad and related trim and the dash pad surface was becoming increasingly sticky to the touch. The glare of the sticky dash pad and the odor it emits. . . Leaving a residue on the inside of the windows. We no longer drive the car for fear of the air bags that in the dash pad not working as planned. New improved part # is 55401-aa060-e0.

28 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

Dash has cracks all over. Never been in an accident. One owner, well maintained, adult female owner.
