14 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2015

Upon entering my vehicle I found that the driver's side seat belt was locked and unable to retract or be pulled forward. I contacted a local Toyota dealership, chicago northside Toyota, and made a service appt for that afternoon. Shortly before arriving at the dealership the seat belt suddenly unlocked and was movable again. Upon inspection, the service technician told me that there was fraying on the seat belt, and that was the cause for the inability for the seatbelt to retract or move. None of this fraying he referred to is visible to me, so I presume it is hidden inside the panel which covers the seat belt mechanism. I presume this was caused by an internal mechanism and I suspect is a design defect. Toyota will not honor any warranty for seat belt replacement after 5 yrs or 50,000 miles, which no longer applies to my vehicle, and is charging me $453 to replace the seat belt as a result of what I believe is a defect for an essential safety restraint. Please investigate.

20 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2014

On 4/05/2014, all 5 seat belts locked after pulled out so far. A week later on 04/12/2014 the rear passenger belt would not lock and could be pulled out as far as the belt can go without ever locking. I then checked the other 4 belts and they all do not lock. As my only means of transportation I have no choice but to keep driving the vehicle and have been hoping that this problem would resolve itself as there are no warning lights on on the dash, none flash or stay on an extended time when first started up & there has been no damage/incidents which could cause this problem. Tonight I had a deer stop in the road in front of me while going 55 mph and had to slam on the brakes. I had hoped that the seat belt would at least function in this situation and it did not. Will be contacting dealership about this issue because I believe that the safety belt system has failed in the car which has been in no accidents so there is no legitimate reason for them to have failed! the car is an 2007 Toyota Camry le/4 cyl/auto.

27 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2011

I have a 2007 Toyota Camry lxe. A driver decided to move into my lane from the left, to avoid a serious collision I had to swerve to the right and hit the brakes. My anti-lock brakes locked and I had no control over the car as we skidded across four lanes and hit a concrete wall. The air bags did not deploy and the seat belts (which were in use) did not lock us in. My wife hit the inside ceiling and the right window of the front door. I tried to find an attorney to go after Toyota but could not find one who had the guts to stand up to Toyota. There wasover $14,500 in repairs and as of today they are still putting the car back together again.

28 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

Driver's side sun visor started to fall apart around March 2011, it became safety issue as it failed to stay in stowed position and was only matter of time before it fell off altogether. Also rear lap seat belt is unserviceable due to locked-in retracted position.

29 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2010

2007 Toyota Camry. Back seatbelts "lock" while driving. My children sit in booster seat and use shoulder belt. We will be driving and they will lock where they can not move. We have to undo seatbelt, pull out a little and then it will retract. This has happened frequently and not in response to sudden stop. 3/14/10 one of the seatbelts in back did this and it will not come unlocked. The dealer is going to replace the entire seatbelt but it seems odd that this happens with all the belts. We do not feel confident they will work properly if there were and accident. With recent recalls related to possible mechanical and brake system thought it should be reported.

30 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2009

On more than occasion the drivers side seat belt has become inoperable. It appears that it does not retract properly and will not release so that the driver can put it on. After several hours or days it will finally retract and begin to work again. This problem was reported to the dealer and was working when we took it in. Nothing was done. It is going in again because it is happening more often and lasting longer.

The contact has a 2007 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that if you adjust the seat for a taller person, the seat belt does not adjust and secure the passenger or drive and remained loose. The seat belt has malfunctioned since the vehicle was purchased. The current mileage was 67000.

33 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2006

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota solara. According to the contact, the owner's manual states that there is a seat belt warning chime for the seat belts. He stated that his vehicle does not have that feature. He took the vehicle to the dealer who stated that his vehicle does not have that safety feature. However, the manufacturer verified his VIN and confirmed that the vehicle does have that feature. He contacted the dealer again and they repeated their previous statement. The technician at the dealer performed a diagnostic test that indicated the feature was not on the vehicle as it should have been. The contact feels that this is major safety hazard. The current mileage is 2,500 and the failure mileage was unknown.
