1 Structure problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2014

My dashboard is melting on my 2008 Toyota Camry le the company should pay for a replacement I have read that this is happening to a tremendous amount of Camry owners this is a flaw in the design component that the dashboard is made of. This should warrant a recall for a manufacturers defect.

2 Structure problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

2008 Camry dashboard is melting! you can't even touch it!.

3 Structure problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2013

My dash on my Camry is sticky and shiny. When the sun hits my dash it causes a glare on my windshield. There is documentation online about some Camry's having issues with this. This is a defect with the car and Toyota refuses to replace the dash for free. I am told the price to replace the dash is $1,586 and that the dealership will give a 10% discount. The Toyota corporate office I contacted stated they would offer assistance to fix the dash and my portion would be around $700-$750. I feel like this should be replaced free of charge as this is not normal wear and tear and is obviously a defect from the manufacturer.

4 Structure problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2013

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the dashboard melted and impaired her vision of the road. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacture was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000 and current mileage was 106,000. Updated 08/19/lj.

5 Structure problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2013

I have a Toyota Camry xle 2008. My dashboard started melting and almost disintegrating. This started within the warranty time where it became "sticky" but has now gotten progressively much worse. I am concerned because I am unsure if the effects of this melted dashboard will have an affect on the airbag deployment system or other interior structures. It is also creating a shiny "reflecting" effect which makes it harder to see while driving. I take very good care of this car and it is in great condition, only has 40,000 miles on it. The dealer said that he was aware of such problem but because it was after warranty has quoted me $1,300. This seems to be a very common complaint as I have heard the same thing from many others, appears to be a factory defect that Toyota should do something about.

6 Structure problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2012

Due to the deterioration of the dashboard, where it is basically melting and very shiny and sticky, when driving in the direction of the sun, the suns rays reflecting off of the dash basically are a blinding factor on visibility of the driver. It is very difficult to see clearly through the windshield. I contacted Toyota care center and explained the issue with the dash deterioration to them. Their rep acknowledged they recognized other owners had reported an issue with the dash but unless the car was under original warranty, they can not do anything to rectify the situation. The rep also noted Toyota determined the cause to be "environmental" and primarily occurring in florida, where I live. In researching other owners complaints on-line, this issue is clearly systemic. And, there are other complaints of this condition effecting visibility. Has the NHTSA investigated the potential safety concern to the public due to Toyota's systemic defect in 2008 and 2007 Camry's they have sold? I can provide photos upon request.

7 Structure problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2012

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the driver's side of the dashboard became melted. The contact mentioned that the sunlight would reflect off the sticky surface on the dash board creating a visibility hazard for the driver. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact notified the manufacturer of the problem but no solution was offered. The failure mileage was 70,000.

9 Structure problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2012

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the dashboard was melting, deteriorating, and turning into a sticky substance. The sticky substance was leaking onto components on the dashboard and the windshield. In addition, the dashboard failure produced a glare on the windshield, which impaired the contact's vision. The dealer stated that the dashboard needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.

10 Structure problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2011

Driver side sun visor became loose and eventually fell off. There was nothing out of the ordinary, no roughness, just normal use. Loose one day and would not hold in place (either up or down). Finally fell off in my lap. Toyota said they were aware of other complaints, but would not fix for free because of expired warranty. Replacement costs +$120. 00. I found numerous other customers on line with the exact same problem. I believe this should be recalled and fixed for customers. Why would so many folks have the visor suddenly fall off?.

11 Structure problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2010

Vibration of 2008 Toyota Camry when air condition is turned on. Was told that it was a normal vibration for 4 cylinders when the a/c was turned on. Several complaints was made but was told that it was normal. Does occur with other Toyota 4 cylinder vehicles. Only occurs when air conditioner is turned on. . . .

12 Structure problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2008

A few days after I took possession of my 2008 Toyota Camry, the splash guard came off. I was told that (1) I had gone over something and pulled it off, or (2) the factory may not have tightened the bolts enough. The dealer tightened the bolts. A few months later, the same thing occurred. This time, I noticed that the wheels were hitting the splash guard when I turned sharply. I brought the car in and reported the problem but all the dealer did was tighten the bolts again. Immediately after the bolts were tightened, I noted that the same thing happened when I turned the wheel sharply. I finally had a free day and brought the car in again and told the dealer that the same thing was happening. Again, I am being blamed for going over things in the road and they refuse to look into the situation. I am trying to avoid a dangerous incident. What can I do to insist that the car be given a thorough safety screening at no cost to me?.

13 Structure problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Camry. While driving at any speed, there is a glare in the rear window that hinders the contact's visibility. She called the manufacturer and was informed that it was not a vehicle safety defect, but rather a design flaw. The contact purchased some black fabric and laid it across the inside of the window, which remedied the failure. The failure mileage was 800 and current mileage was 1,000. Updated 6/16/08 updated.
