1 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2025

The vehicle was involved in a rollover crash at 60 mph that ended in striking a tree, which intruded upon the entire backseat area. The driver/passenger airbag(s) did not deploy despite conditions where deployment should have occurred. There were no signs of prior deployment or tampering: to my knowledge, the airbag system had not previously deployed or been serviced for that. The airbag system is available for inspection, as the vehicle was sold to the insurance company. My safety was put at risk as I sustained physical injuries that may have been prevented by airbag deployment. The vehicle was inspected by insurance representatives. There were no prior warning lamps regarding the airbags prior to the crash.

2 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2024

I've been into automobile accidents and the passenger airbag never deployed. Few years back I took my vehicle for the sticky dashboard recall, Toyota replaced it. Few years later the dashboard is sticky and shiny worst than the first time, I called Toyota to get it replaced free of charge and they told me that is not the responsibility and denied to fix the replaced sticky dashboard. I almost have gotten in accidents do to the shiny glare from the dashboard.

The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked inside the driveway, the contact became aware that the plastic covering over the air bag was loose at the front driver’s seat. The contact pushed back the cover however, the cover failed to stay in place. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

4 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2023

My car (Toyota Camry) was struck in the driver's side door and back passenger door by another car who was traveling at a high rate of speed. The accident resulted in damage to the doors and to the frame of the car. I suffered neck and head injury due to the accident. The side curtain air bag did not deploy. The car was inspected by the owner/manager of the auto body repair shop and it was his opinion that given the severity of the accident that the air bag should have deployed. Due to the frame damage and other damage the car is considered by the insurance company to be a total loss.

5 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2022

I currently a 2009 Toyota Camry I was financed a year ago not even a year ago. From tkp autos in eastlake, ohio. This car consumes too much oil, so I use marvel mystery oil so every 2300-3k miles I have to change the oil. . Also my key fob stopped working, I changed the batteries and they still dont work also the O2 sensors went as well and replaced them twice and they still keep stop working also I found a lot of information on consumer reports that the years 2007-2009 Toyota Camrys are highly unreliable cars to own or lease. Ive seen a lot of complaints and other owners who had the engine sieze on them as well. . These cars are a lemon and not safe to drive also my dash board is very sticky as well from the sun and it turns out that is a melting affect that is dangerous as well also I see the accelerator pedal can give away and that is dangerous as well there should be recalls for the oil consumption and everything else.

6 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2022

At about 60,000 miles, the turn signal popped out making it unsafe to drive. I had the turn signal replaced, then at about 66,000 miles, the horn quit working and the airbag light came on. This was not only a safety issue but caused the vehicle to fail state inspection. I contacted Toyota to reimburse me for the expense incurred for replacing the spiral cable but they refused based on the reason that the 36000 miles warranty had expired. In my opinion, the issue I faced was due to a faulty spiral cable and the 36000 miles warranty clause should not apply. There are other Toyota owners who have reported the same issue to NHTSA. 2009 Toyota corolla was recalled for the same defect but Camry was not. Based on the complaints I have seen, Camry should have been recalled too.

7 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2021

Airbag on drivers side and passenger side is not working properly. Airbag warning lights are always on. Has also caused horn not to work as well. I can’t afford to get this checked out but I did receive a notice of recall about Acura airbags with similarities of what is going on with my Toyota.

8 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2019

In our 2009 Toyota Camry, there was a temporary dash replacement program. It was considered a warranty extension as opposed to a recall and it was a limited time where owners could take the vehicle back to the dealership and have it repaired during that limited time spa. I purchased the vehicle this past year and upon purchasing and spending a summer in san antonio with my 2009 Toyota Camry I experienced what the dash recall/Toyota replacement policy was intended to repair. The dash turns to mush in the heat and it is very, almost malleable. From a safety standpoint, it creates a glare that makes it impossible to see from the drivers point of view and furthermore there's been reported problems with the airbags deploying because of the melting dash. I spoke with Toyota about possibly helping me repair my dash and they said that even though it is a safety concern that they are no longer responsible for repairing the manufactures damages. I wanted to file a claim for reconsideration in hopes that they would be liable for replacing anything that could potential he be a hazard or a danger to my family.

9 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2019

Front end was totaled, frame exposed, area surrounding airbag trigger obviously smashed and exposed, yet no airbag deployment! this vehicle rear-ended another vehicle (stationary) while driving at approximately 40-45mph. My daughters head broke the windshield. An appropriate airbag deployment would have prevented this. I thought this was a safe car. Please investigate and save others.

10 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2018

Takata recall - the knee airbag deployed after a rear end low impact crash on 11/09/18. The bag deployed toward my ankle which was on the break with such force that it crushed my ankle, compound fracture with dislocation and destruction of ligaments and tendons of the ankle joint. The bone was turned at a 90 degree angle. This required being sent to the shock trauma unit at a trauma hospital in memphis, TN. I had extensive surgery on my ankle and an external fixator, which I will wear until around mid January. Then a weight bearing cast and extensive physical therapy. The first deputy on site said it was obvious the airbag more than likely caused the damage to my ankle. There was no other damage to the interior of the car or floor board and no damage to the break or accelerator. I had no other injuries, other that a slight bump on the head from the other airbag. I did have my seatbelt on. I was told at the hospital that I was lucky I didn't lose my foot, this airbag seemed to project forcefully directly into my ankle/foot area and I immediately felt my ankle go numb and I couldn't move it. The bone protruded out of my skin and was turned 90 degrees other surrounding bone was fragmented. Since there were bone fragments that were too small to repair, this will complicate complete recovery from my injury. I have photos, but I was unable to upload.

11 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2018

Melting dash: I placed this under "air bags" because there is legitimate concern for their operation under the defective dash. Also, the glare from the shininess of the dash is a concern. I purchased it new in may 2008. My daughter has been driving it. The problem came to my attention literally days after the 10-year "warranty extension". I talked to my dealer and directly to Toyota and they would not resolve the defective dash. This is still a problem. It didn't go away after 10 years.

At start up the gauges started to work intermittently, after a while driving down the road they start working fine after a few miles they start jumping and falling. Brake light and abs lights comes on and ac quits working we haven t drive the car since this started happening called the dealer and they told us to take to service, before that I will like to know if theres a recall for that. On the last service made by Toyota dealer, they washed the engine, a practice that I am not agree, does that may be the cause? let me know, thanks.

16 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2016

I purchased my 2009 Toyota Camry 2. 4l while stationed in germany, it was manufactured to us specifications and I brought it stateside with me. I ran my VIN in the Toyota database to find out if the air bag or "sticky" dash board recalls applied to my vehicle. My VIN did not register in the Toyota database. I called Toyota and they ran my VIN, they explained that my vehicle was not visible in their database. The went on to explain, I would have to contact Toyota in japan or germany for recall information and they would not be able to repair any recalls on my vehicle in the us. Does Toyota not have an obligation to ensure my vehicle was manufactured properly and with quality materials to ensure its safe operation?.

17 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2015

The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while attempting to turn to the right, the air bag located under the dashboard and the steering wheel air bag abruptly deployed. The air bag under the dashboard released objects with jagged edges that cut the contact's lower legs area. Medical attention was received. A police report was filed. 18 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2014

I realized that my srs lights were staying on. After going through vehicle manual it pointed out that it was due to disabled air bag. I took it to Toyota service center to have it diagnosed and they said it was due to faulty spiral cable assembly. It cost me about $550 to get it fixed. I later realized that there were many other Toyota cars that were being recalled for the same reason, I am wondering why Toyota Camry was left out as it seems to have the same issue. I feel that this should be brought to an attention as the lit srs light could have gone unnoticed if I hadn't been cautious. I had to compare it to my previously taken dashboard picture to figure out if it was out of ordinary.

19 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2013

As noted by other safety recalls for Toyota that did not include the 2009 Camry something malfunctioned in my steering wheel and the airbag is no longer functioning as well as the buttons on the steering wheel or cruise control I believe this is the same issue other vehicles made by Toyota have had safety recalls for and do not believe it to be an odd coincidence that I would then have that same issue. I am hoping that others report this so that the Camry can be added to that recall.

20 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

Sunvisor on passenger side loosend and then broke off. The panel on air bag on passenger side started coming apart, and lastly a loud clunking sound as I turned steering wheel.

On 11 26 2012 I was approaching an intersection on a green light going apprximately 35 mph when I collided with a truck which was traveling at a high rate of speed against a red light through the same intersection. The impact totalled my vehicle. Witnesses at the scene estimated the other drivers speed at approximately 50 mph. The airbags in my 2009 Camry did not deploy. I sustained a concussion and spinal injuries. If the air bags had deployed I am convinced that I might have sustained fewer injuries.
