36 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2016

My 2009 Toyota Camry is part of the ze7- warranty enhancement program for excessive oil consumption. The primary coverage for this issue was good until October 31, 2016 and secondary cover until 150,000 miles or 10 years from the date of first use (whichever comes first). My car did not experience this issue until late November and when the car was at 149,500 miles. I contacted Toyota customer service (case #1611293174) and was advised that since the vehicle would be under 150,000 when the oil consumption test was initiated it still met the service guidelines. I took the vehicle to the dealership to initiate the test with the car still under 150,000 miles. The dealership contacted Toyota and Toyota advised that since the car would be over 150,000 mile when the car finished the test it would not be covered. I contacted Toyota again referencing my case number and they verified what I was told by the customer service rep but now were telling me it would not be covered. This is a know issue by Toyota and they are doing everything in their power to get around repairing a defective part. Now I have to file a lawsuit in order to get the vehicle repaired. The car has diminished value due to this known issue and I have to either cover the repair cost or deal with the issue which includes constantly checking my oil to make sure it doesn't run out and completely kill the engine. This is unacceptable. I would have never purchased this car had I known about this issue.

37 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2016

Consuming excessive oil in two-three months period. I got low oil pressure light on and off when I hit the break hard, then engine check light was on and off. I went to nearest auto store and checked engine oil. It was completely empty, I mean dry. I just couldn't believe it since Toyota dealer checked oil consumption test and my car passed the test a few month ago. I was told the auto shop worker that I was lucky because it was so close to burn up the engine. I checked online and many people has the same issue on 2009 Camry. Toyota is aware of the issue as well. It should be a recall and it should be fixed by Toyota.

38 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2016

The engine oil light had come on indicating my oil was low. I had a scheduled oil change appt. At a Toyota dealership in a few weeks so I checked the dipstick, which indicated the oil was low, and added two quarts. At my appointment on 11/19/16, I stated the oil issue and the service advisor started the oil consumption test. When I returned to get the results from the test on 1/2/17, it was revealed my car had failed and the oil was extremely low. I am told by a former certified Toyota mechanic, that their standards for failing oil consumption tests are very high, so to fail a test is a huge concern. The test was ran when my mileage was at 151,499. The oil consumption issue had obviously started well before the test was ran. However, since my car was out of the 10 yr/150k mile warranty, Toyota would not cover the cost of repair. I called the Toyota customer care line twice and they told me legally they could not cover the cost. They refused to acknowledge that the problem started before 151,499 miles. I called the Toyota region to see if they will fix it in good will since I bought the car in good faith and always had it regularly maintenanced at a Toyota dealership. I was still told no, they legally couldn't help me. I was never notified that my car had a potential for excessive oil consumption. The only recall notice I have ever received from them was to get extra grease put on a switch for my window motor. If they had alerted me sooner that my engine needed to be tested or if the service department had told me about the recall for similar cars, then I would not be stuck driving a dangerous vehicle. I have to put a quart of oil in every week just to make sure it is drivable. I am paying for the repair out of pocket hoping that there is no damage to my engine block. I do not want to sell this car since it is a potential danger and put someone else's life at risk.

39 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2016

Motor oil is burning excessively I have to check the oil every weekend and the dealer says is normal, I think is not normal to keep adding oil when there is no leak. Dashboard is practically melting it was reported back in may because in the summer time it gets very sticky the dealer says it will take months or a year before they could fix it. Radio has a malfunction it was replaced back in 2014 because the screen turn black and not able to turn it on or off. In 2016 the radio is having problems again for the same reason and the dealer won't replace it anymore because the warranty is finished.

40 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2016

My 2009 Toyota Camry has been burning approximately 1/2 quart of oil per week since October 2016. It had 128000 miles at that time. It now has 134500 miles. I drive approximately 500 miles per week. I fear engine problems and possible seizure. I had a Toyota dealership test done at 129500, but their verdict was that the oil consumption was not within the realm of needing repair. The engine used 3/4 quart of oil over 1250 miles, but the Toyota guideline is 1. 1 quart during the test time period.

41 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2016

Failed oil consumption test x 2. Dealer stated I pay for any damage to engine, only piston rings covered. Dealer stated I pay if they damage engine during repair/recall.

42 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2016

I noticed my Camry was low on oil. Took it into the dealership. They said there is a recall on my engine for excessive oil consumption. They verified indeed my car has an excessive oil consumption problem. Toyota dealership said they would eventually fix it but all the parts are on back order. At first they said it could take a month or two. I called back a month later, dealership said they could not tell me a date and it may take a year until they have parts. I feel that my car is being compromised burning oil like this. I am having to put a quart in sometimes every 700 miles! what are the consequences of waiting this long to get the repair done and may having to wait a year if Toyota even gets back to me. I feel that they are avoiding me and not actually going to fix this repair in a timely manner.

43 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2016

On 06-21-2016, we took our 2009 Toyota Camry se to wondries Toyota in alhambra CA for the oil consumption test under the enhancement warranty (ze7). We were told by the service advisor to drive the vehicle (which had 61088 miles) for approximately 1100-1300 miles then bring it back in for the re-inspection. On 08-29-2016, we brought our Camry back into the dealership with 62330 miles on it. We were told by the service advisor that our vehicle did not fail the test. The vehicle had only used up "a 1/4 of a quart of oil" and in order to fail the test it would've needed to burn "a quart of oil" in the given amount of miles. I ask the service advisor if it was normal for the vehicle to have blueish color smoke come out of the tailpipe every morning. He stated no. The service advisor stated "you would need to check my oil every 1200 miles to add oil". I asked him it was normal for me to have to check and add oil to this vehicle. He stated no. I stated if I follow the Toyota oil change guideline (changing oil every 5000-7000 miles) then my vehicle would have lost 1-11/2 quart of oil prior to the oil change. He stated yes. I explained to him that it was a safety concern for my wife that drives the vehicle and now she runs the rest of the motor stopping on her because of excessive oil usage and the dealership would not fix the problem. He stated there was nothing he can do so I need to contact Toyota motor corporation.

44 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2016

Every time I took my car to get an oil change (every 3000 miles sometimes even a little earlier), I am told my oil is low or dirty or both. This last time I took it I was told I was low two quarts of oil and I didn't even hit 3,000 miles yet. I was told next time if it was low I might have to do a complete engine flush. I decided to get a few more opinions before going forward with any work. I was told by a man at a Toyota dealership in torrance, that it sounded similar to an issue another person he knows had which ended up being a recall for that persons car. I was advised to call the dealership I got my car from and check with them for a recall. I called and received news that there was a "warranty enhancement" for excessive oil consumption. I took it in to get the first step of the test done which consisted of making sure there wasn't an oil leak and since there wasn't they topped off my oil then applied markers to my dip stick and other places so they can measure how much my oil went down after only 1200 miles. When I returned after the 1200 miles they checked the levels again and saw obviously my engine burned a significant amount of oil since they last checked it. They added a quart of oil back into my car when I returned and since it was little above full after they added the quart, they said my car passed the test and that although my car burned oil it wasn't enough for them to do any work to my car. Basically telling me that its $5,000 to fix and that it was normal in Toyotas to consume excessive amounts of oil. I bought my car certified used from the cerritos auto square autonation lot. I couldn't believe that they turned me away without even suggesting other ways for me to get better oil consumption or any other help for that matter. I was told I can do the test one more time and they told me to go to a different dealership which I also found strange.

45 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

Excessive oil consumption started in 2016 & it is getting worse. Adding a bottle of engine oil twice a month. My car only has 103k miles and is 2009. I bought it brand new & is in great condition. The dealership won't do anything about this issue.

46 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2016

My Toyota Camry is burning up oil.

47 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2016

Oil consumption. I need to add oil every 1100 to 1250 milage.

48 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2016

Oil consumption terrible pay more for oil than gas now should be recalled. Toyota checked it at 147,000 miles said 1 qt every 1000 ok I checked before taking in over 1 qt they lied this is bull should of been fixed and went over 150,000 won,t check it ant more crazy.

49 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2016

Excessive engine oil consumption. Only 1 liter of engine oil came out during my last engine oil change at 65,000 miles even after I put in a liter at 64,500 miles because the red low engine oil pressure light came on and I checked the dipstick to see that almost no engine oil was in my car. I'm currently at 67,000 miles and the red light came on again, so I added one more liter of engine oil after checking the dipstick and practically nothing registered. I need to get it fixed, but the Toyota dealer says nothing is wrong with my car/VIN, so I can't get the necessary parts even if they have them in stock. I called the 1-888-270-9371 Toyota customer assistance center and the representative said there's nothing she could do. Would like to fix the problem before my engine blows up.

50 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2016

Car is consuming a large amount of oil and has been previously checked at local dealer and oil consumption test done and stated by local dealer normal. As of March 2017 stillan issue and will continue to take to dealer for issue.

51 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2016

Excessive oil consumption. . . !!!!!!.

52 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2016

Excessive oil consumption. Burns 1 quart within 1,500 of millage use. My current car millage is approximately 88,000 miles. This problem is shown through large puffs of black smoke from the exhaust, upon ignition. This is obviously not a "normal" situation. This issue may lead to a higher amount oil purchases and serious engine damage; it is very costly.

53 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2016

My excessive oil consumption engine needed repairs per a Toyota major recall. I took the car and as you can see below it has been a very frustrating experience. After being told that my 2009 Toyota Camry was on a recall list, I was given a possible repair date of within 10 months. I waited and was given a drop off date of 1/23/2017. I was given a rental car and went on to work. After 5 days I was told my car was ready but, that I would have to pay for parts that were removed/replaced to do the work on the recall. I questioned why I was being charged for consequential damages to parts that should be included as part of the labor due to the recall. I got fetched a long story from Toyotas 800 number and I had no choice but, go pick up my car and pay the $269. 54. I picked it up and noticed that it was driven 58 miles, upon leaving and as I got on the main road I noticed that there was a huge crack on my windshield as well. I called back and spoke to johnny fedigan, he was rude, a bully, and accused me of lying about the damage. I begged them to pull their security tapes which they refused. Toyota should pay for this recall to include any parts that should get damaged in the process as they perform their repairs. I'm asking for a full refund and an investigation into the damaged windshield. I refuse to go back to their store and prefer to have the windshield replaced at either my residence or place of employment. I've owned 3 Toyotas and refuse to go by and purchase my next car from don mcgill. I realize that I am a single customer however; I work hard for my money. I've never tried to abuse my car and I keep up with the maintenance. In my opinion johnny fedigan should be retrained. His lack of professionalism is going to cost you guys thousands and you will continue to lose valuable customers if you continue to refuse to do the right thing.

55 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2015

Excessive oil consumption.

56 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2015

At about 80,000 miles noticed that my wife's car started using oil and a couple times the oil light had come on which scared her. I contacted Toyota local dealership and they told me it was normal??? I've been a technician my whole life and told them they were nuts. Not log after we got a notice about an oil consumption TSB and took in for the test. They test it before the oil has any chance for viscosity loss which naturally is going to pass. It uses approx. 2-3 qts. Of oil in a 3,000 mile oil change which is absurd. I've owned Toyota's for over 30 years but I've told them this is it no more of them. This is dangerous because this could leave this car disabled most anywhere even in the road!!! please make Toyota fix this problem which is huge as everyone I've spoken with on this model has the same problem! is there no honor justice anymore?.

57 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2015

I was driving and my car's low engine oil light came on. I brought it to Toyota and this employee helped me pour in 2. 5 quarts of oil. This is in between the maintenance scheule. After getting an oil consumption test from Toyota, the employee told me that Toyota's standard is that we can lose a quart of oil for every 1200 miles. I brought my car back to them after 1,000 miles. They said that my car passed the test, I noticed that they added a quart of oil to my car. This is so not normal! I just received the extended warranty notice a couple of weeks ago. It defeats the purpose of notifying us if Toyota denies that our cars have the oil consumption problem. This powerful company is bullying everyone. A lawsuit does not help get our cars fixed. Please recall the cars. Otherwise, you are letting Toyota get away with bullying behavior. Thanks!.

58 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2015

Excessive oil consumption. Took to Toyota dealer and they performed a test on it and said it was normal to. Loosing a quart ever 1100 miles.

59 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2015

Bought 09 Camry new. In 2015, @ 130,000 miles, the "low oil" warning light came on. Took it to the dealer to do the oil consumption test, (they overfilled the engine with oil). When came back in 1200 miles was told the car is burning oil but not enough for Toyota to cover the repair (since they overfilled the engine with oil) the car continued to consume more oil. Now at 170,000 miles, the car burns around 2 qrts of oil every 1000. Very disappointing.

60 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2015

Car had no oil left in it after 5000 miles and just getting oil change at that time. Was told my 2. 4 engine is known to "eat" oil per service tech and Toyota is doing an "oil consumption test" on the engine after I put 1200-1300 miles on new engine oil. Car went through 4. 5 qts of oil in 5000 miles! not burning out exhaust and not leaking anywhere. Service tech advised this is known problem. According to them, after "oil comsumption test" if my car "eats" less than a quart in 1100 miles that is acceptable! that is not. I know 20 year old cars that dont burn or leak or "eat" oil at oil. This known issue with the Toyota 2. 4 engine should be recalled and owners given a new engine or compensation. I cannot keep putting oil in car every 1100 miles! Toyota needs to be held accountable for a defect they are aware of. I was lucky to not have taken my car on long trip and have engine seize up on me on highway causing a possible crash. Please help with this problem. I know others have similiar complaints with NHTSA and also other websites and wanted to bring mine to your attention also. Thank you very much!!.

61 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2015

My car consumes excessive amounts of oil. I need to add oil about every 1000 miles. Toyota has conducted 2 oil consumption tests and tells me that the oil consumption is normal.

62 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

My 2009 Toyota Camry is consuming a lot of oil, in between oil changes I have to add a quart of oil, it is burning oil abnormally. I took it to the Toyota dealership for the oil consumption test but was told my vehicle is fine and burning oil as it should for age of the car. My mechanic tells me different. However I do not feel comfortable with how it is burning the oil so quickly.

63 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2015

I purchased my 2009 Toyota Camry in 2008 after graduating college. I have always serviced my car as required per the Toyota manufacturers guide to have it serviced every 5,000 miles. The last three or four times I had to take the car at least 500-1000 miles before the required service mileage. About 90% of the service maintenance was performed at the Toyota dealership. Per the Toyota service package, the technicians are suppose to do a through inspection of the car to notify any areas of concern to the customer. I read a TSB that was issued by Toyota in November 2011 regarding excessive oil consumption due to a defective seal or piston ring. Recently before I hit the road for vacation, I was checking my tire pressure and decided to check my oil levels. The car was not suppose to be serviced for another 500 miles and their was no oil on the dipstick. . Nothing came out. I took my car to the nearest jiffy lube and asked the mechanic to look under the engine to see if there was an external oil leak. The mechanic checked and said no oil was leaking on the outside. He told me there could possibly be engine oil burning up, which is why I pulled the Toyota TSB. This is very concerning because I wouldn't want my engine to lock up driving at a high speed down the freeway. Toyota should be held accountable for the manufacturing defect and should investigate the matter. There is a class action lawsuit against Toyota for the above matter and I will be sharing my story. Thank you.

64 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2015

At intermittent times, most noticeably while braking or turning or both, warning light and sound activates. Checked just recently, no oil on dipstick. Suspect excessive oil consumption manufacturer defect on my year and model which is not being addressed by Toyota.

65 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2015

My 2009 Camry started burning excessive oil I am guessing at about 85,000 (Toyota definitely has record of it). I told them about it at my service appointment and they put the dye in and checked for oil leaks. All was fine. Since it just happened once I decided that maybe it was a fluke. Nope. Same thing happened so my next service appointment I mentioned it again. They told me I would either need a new engine or I would just have to put up with it and make sure there was always enough oil. It wasn't too bad at the time because it would only happen every 2,500 or so. Now it is happening every 1,000 miles, and I looked online and could not believe how many complaints there are for the same thing, and the fact that there is no recall!!! can you help get them to fix it since there are soooo many complaints on the exact same subject?.

66 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2015

In 2015 I received several recall notices from Toyota, inc. The first of several were the sun visors defect. Although mechanicsville Toyota fixed it when they fixed the engine consumption problem in 2015, it currently has the same problem as the visor on the driver's side doesn't stay up/defective. The second, the dashboard area will crack due to sun exposure which it has tiny cracks. However, the major was recall on, engine oil consumption. Mechanicsville Toyota, 6546 mechanicsville tpke. Mechanicsville, va fixed the problem, however, the problem has returned. This defect will cause the engine to lock if oil consumption isn't checked and added regularly.

67 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2015

It has 80,000 miles and burns excessive oil. I checked it yesterday and there was no oil touching the dipstick. It starts consuming oil two years ago and now it consumes 3 quarts between the oil changes.

68 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2014

Excess engine oil consumption. Engine oil keep disappearing. Have to add more oil every week or two (that's less than a 500 miles to burn a quart or 2 engine oil!) to bring it back within the acceptable level. There is no visible leaks, no blue smoke indication. It is dangerous if engine suddenly fail when driving. This seems a common manufacturing defect from Toyota (t-sb-0094-2az-fe engine oil consumption).

69 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2014

At 76427 (3865 miles after oil change) the oil light came on and the dip stick was dry. I took in to mcquire Toyota and they started a phase 1 oil consumption test. At 1300 miles I took it back, they only added 1 quart of oil, it passed their test. Then after 2499 miles the oil light came on again and the dip stick was dry. They told me there was nothing they could do about it. I constantly check the oil because I am afraid that the oil will go dry and the engine will blow. I think that this problem will only get worse. After 2499 miles my oil light should not be coming on and the dip stick should not be dry. Toyota's oil consumption test may look good on paper, but it doesn't work in real life. I am 63 tears old and I have never had a vehicle where this happens. I am concerned that this all is going to damage the engine, so I have to keep a close watch of it. Thank you.

70 Engine Burning Oil problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2014

Excessive oil consumption. Camry went from burning 1 qt. Of oil per 5,000 miles (car had 82k miles on it) to burning 1 qt. Per 450 miles (car has 158k miles on it). Toyota tested the car and said it came up 0. 1 qt short of requiring repair under enhanced warranty,.
