general problems of the 2012 Toyota Camry - part 1

I was going to park my car so I was slowing heading toward the parking spot. I slowed down and tried to park my car; however, as I was stepping on the brake, my car suddenly accelarated on its own and jumped the curb. My car hit the building breaking several windows. I am convinced that this accident was a case of sudden unintended accelaration due to the malfunction of my car.

Brake, abs, traction control lights came on at the same time. Toyota replaced the brake light switch. The light still came on they said it is the brake actuator. The vehicle had 148-152k miles on it at the time. The brake actuator repair is really expensive and other Toyota Camry (non hybrid) have reported the same issue online forums.

I was braking on turning into a parking spot? but instead of braking it was like I had hit the accelerator. I kept stomping the break but it would not slow down only accelerated. The car went up over the curb into a metal fence and almost hit a brick wall. I've never experienced anything like this with any car I've ever had and I've had quite a few Toyota's and a lot of them have been Camrys.

As I was driving, all of the lights (oil, brake, abs, check engine) all of it came on at the same time and made a noise and the car shut down , while I was driving. I am a college student with a commute, and thank god I was near a neighborhood to pull over immediately. I tried waiting 10 minute to restart, and it would not even start because the whole thing was dead and the lights were on. Break booster is apparently defective and not working as described. Intermittent master warning light comes up. Because the correct failure code doesn't come up Toyota says I don't qualify for its customer support program for this known defective part . Please issue a recall so owners don't die from an accident.

On two occasions, while driving, the engine turned off for approximately 1 or 2 minutes, leading to a loss of control of the vehicle, the brakes and the steering. Then it automatically turned back on, and I could continue driving. On both occasions I was driving at approximately 20kms per hour, and I was making a turn. On the 2nd occasion, the car went uponto the sidewalk and crashed into a tall step that proected the car from going through the display window. I took the car to the agency in cuernavaca, mexico and they ran a scan that indicated that the engine had in fact turned off while going 19kms per hour, but they kept the report and refused to turn it over to me. This is the only 'proof' or supporting information that I would have had.

On 5/24/18 at 1435 in chicago IL, my 2012 Toyota Camry fully accelerated through ongoing traffic after lightly depressing the pedal to move forward the brakes did not work and I had to maneuver through oncoming traffic into a grass area across the street to slow down but coming down on the other side hitting another vehicle. Chicago police dept report #jb-282363.

December 29th at 3:00 a. M my wife and I was going to the atm in granger TX. As I approached a sharp curve I went to apply the brake to slow down and the car speeded up hit the culvert and went airborne. We came down on a boulder and somehow we managed to drive back to my brother in laws. The airbags did not go off. I have severe whiplash, I cracked my l1 and injured my side and back. My wife's head hit the side window so hard she had a concussion knots and bruises on her head. She has bruises on her right shoulder, hit her knee and leg. If we had not been wearing seat belts we would have died. If our airbags had worked we would not have been hurt as bad as we are. My wife's glasses are bent and my watch is broke. I am sending pictures to prove the airbags did not work. Not sur what the odometer reading is because I am afraid to turn the car on since there is no longer no oil or antifreeze.

Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving 32 mph, the brakes were applied and the vehicle accelerated rapidly without warning. On the commute to work in stop and go traffic I was in line with several other cars. As they began to accelerate, I also began to accelerate up to about 20 mph when one of the cars in the front of the line stopped to make a turn all the cars infront of me also stopped and as I went to also stop the brake pedal would not push down at all, failing to engage the brakes causing my car to drive into the back of the stopped car in front of me, resulting in major front end damage. The airbag did not deploy in the accident.

3/31/2015 7:05 am after I pressed the gas pedal to turn in my driveway, the car just took off. I braked and it would not stop. I ran into the right front corner of my garage, through my neighbors front yard on the right of my house. As I sped through my neighbors yard I mowed down a small tree. I then crossed the street and went over the sidewalk and stopped short of the subdivision lake. The air bag did not deploy.

The tire pressure tends to fluctuate often requiring weekly air check to maintain the proper psi. The driver front tire psi cold will read 36 , front pass 34 , rear drive r35, rear pass at 36, when the tires heat up after appx. 38 mile out and you check the psi it will read 39, 39. 36,37, or at time you may get 39,37. 39. F you have to come to a stop light, sudden stop, or a stop at night on a non familiar road like I had to in the rain on a uneven road the vehicles tail end tends to slide to the left and the front end feels as if you hit a pot hole do to slight wear and tear groves in the road that don't become apparent until your on that 1 to 2 feet section in the road. Is this a common complaint with any others or am I over being over concerned with the drive performance on uneven pavement or roads. My concern is the abuse on the brake components, the steering , the tires , fuel consumption and keeping control of your vehicle . Is it a computer problem, wheel component, tires, or me or all of the above. I purchased my Toyota for durability, efficacy, and my family safety on the road .

Toyota Camry 2012 and 2013 which I have when there is an elevation and there is a signal. Immediatly when you take you leg out of brake . The car immediately start rolling back soo fast. I missed hitting the car behind number of occasions by pressing gas quickly. I have showed this problum to dealer they said it is common problum. The car should not go too fast back in a small alivation which is not safe .

There is a noise in the front wheels or when brakes are applied from forward to reverse, it makes a clicking sound that can be heard inside the vehicle when applying the brakes. Dealer has checked it or listenced to the noise and says it is normal. It is still worrie some as to what will happen in a emergency.

I was told by Toyota that is normal now for the brake actuator to perform a test once the car changes gears from first to second gear. The actuator makes a grinding/odd noise no matter how many times you hit the breaks or go into different gears. I demonstrated this issue with Toyota in person and then was left for 3 days. After the Toyota dealership opened a ticket with Toyota techincal support, it is now deemed "normal" everyday you start your car and when the car switches to second gear, "it is the break actuator pressurizing and performing it's test". The sound heard is normal. Given there has been so many issues with Toyota and their actuators. I hope they have deemed my break actuator as safe because from what I have read in the news, a faulty break actuator is very unsafe. I have called up Toyota care who said "we only rely and trust what are technicians say". Toyota better have their story straight because they have had a bad record in the past with safety issues.

While my husband was driving, the truck in front of him came to a stop to allow for another vehicle turning. When my husband attempted to stop, the brakes when right to the floor. He attempted to brake again and it finally caught, but too late. The sudden braking caused the car's nose to lower, under the truck's tailgate as he hit the truck in front of him. The car may be totaled which we should find out in a couple of days.

The dealer was notified of the failure and was not able to replicate and diagnose the failure with no dtc. The condition continued and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for longer than eight weeks. The contact was unable to receive a remedy to repair the vehicle and mentioned that it was unsafe to drive with this random failure happening. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no remedy other than having the dealer update the software for the computer and providing a usb with technical diagnosis information. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.

This is the third time this has happened ! I went to stop for the light and the brakes go to the floor. .

This is the 2nd time I went to stop and the brakes went all the way to the floor. The first time was about 3 weeks or so ago and I went to the Toyota dealer and he couldn't find the problem. There's something wrong with the brakes ! and I transport a handicapped child and 3 more children .

I was driving with my 5 grandchildren and went to stop at a light and the brakes went all the way to the floor . It really scared all of us ! so when we cut our outing short and got home I checked the brake fluid and it was low so I had to add some . Then the brakes seem to work like they should. This car was bought brand new has never been in a accident and this should not be happening already.

Pulling into a parking space, I pushed the break, and the car lunged forward. It accelerated, I pushed the break again, looking to make sure my foot was on the break. It was. The car drove over a parking space barrier and crashed into a fence, knocking down the fence, and ultimately stopping the car.

2012 Toyota Camry. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle brakes malfunction. The consumer stated his wife was unable to stop the vehicle after pushing the brake pedal, which went all the way to the floor.

I was at a stop light and as soon as the light turned green, I pressed on the accelerator but to no avail. The car did not move as usual, so I moved my foot off the accelerator. Once my foot was off the gas pedal, the car took a certain spring and unintended acceleration. I was taking by surprised and quickly acted to control the vehicle to safety. I will be reporting this incident to Toyota of north America and will wait for them to instruct me as to what to do. Safety is a great concern to me and my family and hope that Toyota does the right thing and makes sure to provide us an answer and repairs our vehicle.

The brake of this vehicle does not give enough force to stop the car at any speed, it looks the break booster is not provide enough force to stop the car, also there is another issue during deceleration and stop from 25 or 35 mph to complete stop, it looks while braking something give additional acceleration not braking to the vehicle, it is hard to reduce a speed on the highway at speed 60 or 65, I am sure something wrong with the design of the break of the vehicle, it is unlike other cars we owned , chevy equinox and Dodge stratus 2005 braking are much butter and it is old they can stop at any speed but this Toyota Camry 2012 is scary and I am afraid to use it in the highways driving, the dealer stated nothing wrong with the brake and I want from NHTSA to test the drive of this car and see their opinion.

I have a 2012 Toyota Camry, I was driving on the freeway and there was an accident up ahead and I had to break suddenly. All my brakes did was make a loud stuttering sound which I could actually feel in the brake pedal and slowed very so slightly I had little to no control of my brakes. I thought it was all over because it didn't appear that I was going to stop but I managed to just miss the car in front of me steering off to the shoulder of the freeway just in time and my car finally stopped. At the time, I thought it might of been the way I applied my breaks, or an isolated incident until reading an article about a Lexus recall which sounds like the same problem. This isn't my first car with anti-lock breaks so I am familiar with the way they're supposed to work. It appears that Toyota may need add one more vehicle to it's list before someone is killed.

I was pulling my car onto the carport from driveway, which is at same level, with foot on brake. The car accelerated independently with the car surging forward and the rpm increasing as I was crashing through the carport, fence, patio, two four-wheelers, the concrete patio stairs, propane bbq grill and a wheel barrel. I had my foot on the brake as hard as I could, and it did not stop and the motor continue to race; I thought the engine was going to explode. After all the debris which was in front of the car and under it, it couldn't go any further but the wheels where still spinning and the engine was still racing. If it had not been for my husband who seen it and heard it, he yelled at me " turn off the engine" I don" know what else the car would have destroyed. The car missed running over my husband and the house by a couple of feet.

I rented a Toyota Camry 2013 in December 2012. While sitting in the traffic at low speed, I noticed that the front vehicle suddenly stopped near the intersection of buchanan and us 93. I immediately slammed on the break pad while the cruiser was on, however, the break did not respond. The rental car did not slow down and kept moving forward. Eventually, it hit the front vehicle. Luckily, no one was injured because of low speed. If it were a normal functional car, the vehicle would have stopped because the speed was very low. But in this case, the rental car caused the accident because of its poor quality. The car was severely damaged. In contrast, the vehicle in the front, a SUV, had no damage. After the accident, I checked the scene and did not find any tire break mark on the ground, which suggested that the brake system was not working properly. While driving on highway before the accident, I also noticed that the rental car had much slow response from the brake when the cruise was on, and the brake seemed to be much more sensitive when the cruise was off. In order to protect other drivers on highway, I strongly request NHTSA to launch an investigation on Toyota Camry’s break system. If any defect is identified, they should recall all the problematic vehicles. I can’t imagine what would have happened if the speed were high, and things could be bloody and hoffifying. I hope one fewer accident like that could be reduced by the responsive actions from the government.

Our family bought a 2012 Toyota Camry in about early April the year of 2012 . A few months later we started to notice noise. Considering a brand new car we had purchased. It was in our concern to why this was happening. We get everything done from the dealer located in lincolnwood, IL. From where we had purchased the vehicle. We took the car to the same dealer multiple times with the same concern. We were told that the vehicle was fine, but oddly the noise was constant even after a visit at the dealers. This visit we had done was not just once but many times, receiving the same answer. What upsets me is that after my warranty was over. Suddenly the dealer knew the solution to the problem I was constantly verifying them about earlier. Which summed up to about three thousand dollars. I, who is refusing to pay this. This car started giving me problems from day one. What I can conclude from this is, that the car itself is a defect. The dealer told our family to call the manufactures and let them know, because this car could have been a defect from beginning, when purchased. The dealer says, the problem in the car is " brake actuator booster assembly. ".

On April 30th 2012 my Camry 2012 was hit as I was making a uturn to pick up my son from school 35 mph /upon impact the car did not stop, went over the median, into the bush area, at the meantime I tried to put the car in park, the car did not stop, turned off the engine, the car did not stop, the car did not pick up speed, the whole time I was breaking but the car would not stop, it finally came to full stop upon impacting a tree. The police came and filled a report. Was surprised to see my car on the other side of the road by a tree. My car was taken to Toyota collision center in arlington TX. It took them 31 days to fix a brand new Camry 2012 that was supposed to be done in 2 weeks according to them. They tell me there is nothing wrong with the car. I have driven Camrys for more than 2 decades. I know if there is a problem. I contacted Toyota corporate, they have sent an engineer specialist to check the car. They are not disclosing any information to me, they say you have to wait till you receive in mail. According to their engineer specialist, he says the recording box(something new with new Camrys) there was more than one collision recorded. There was a time lapse! I have not picked up my car because I totally feel unsafe with that car!!! this had never happened to me!!! no one on earth can tell me there was nothing wrong with that car. I almost hit my son and his friend!!! the lawyers tell me since I have not hurt anyone and gotten hurt myself, there is nothing they can do. I ask you to please help me with this case! I feel if something like this happens in the highway and I kill someone or myself, then lawyers and Toyota will do something. I need help before it is too late. Thank you for listening.

It sometimes will not shift into normal reverse. On these occasions, when you shift into reverse ,it will not move or creep slowly back as it normally does. It feels like a brake is on and you must push hard on the gas to get the car to back up at all. The car then lunges backward until you take your foot off the gas and it will jerk to a stop without you even touching the brakes. This is scary when you are in a parking space at a retail store,restaurant ,etc. And have someone parked on both sides of you. You cant back up slowly,only can lurch out of your parking spot and hope no pedestrians or vehicles are coming by. I finally got the car to do this at the dealer lot in des moines,by driving and parking for 48 minutes. Now the dealer saw the problem dealer tech backed the car up for a block with one foot on the gas and one on the brake, as I told him if he drove forward for 50 feet it would snap out of the problem and we would be trying to recreate it again. No probs show on scope tests Toyota has no idea what it is. Bought the car 03/24/2012 dealer has had it to look at over 18 days already in and out. My wife is terrified to drive it as this happened to her in the parking lot at work. .
