general problems of the 2014 Toyota Camry - part 1

While driving at speed over 45 mph or going up a steep hill car starts to shutdown and shudder causing a serious safety concern. I could have been killed. I understand this is related to oil consumption problem that Toyota has failed to address in the 2014 model. What can be done? this is criminal!.

My car is exhausting oil very rapidly. It’s burning oil from inside the engine. Started 2 months ago. I have never received any recalls on it.

The vehicle has a shudder problem related to the transmission. This problem was fixed back in 2015 and has persisted since I have owned the vehicle. During acceleration of 1200-1800 rpms, the transmission begins to shudder. I have asked the dealership to fix it due to the current recall but have stated that the transmission was already fixed.

I bought this car 2 weeks ago and now I'm learning of this torque converter problem. The used car dealership claimed that the car did not have any mechanical issues and upon test driving the issue wasn't apparent. However, no sooner than driving off the lot I notice the shutter. All of these dealerships kick the can down the road and does not fix this issue. There should be a recall on these models 2012 - 2014 to fix this issue as it is very expensive for the average driver. Toyota knew about this issue from 2012 and did not fix the problem. They will only fix it when they are forced.

I own a 2014 Toyota Camry there is a known issue with the 2012-2014 Toyota Camry models for the torque converters failing. In December of 2023 I noticed my vehicle not changing gears as smoothly as it normally does so I took my vehicle to my local Toyota dealership and was told that I needed by torque converter replaced and it would be $2800. Upon my research I found out that this is a known issue for this make and model and Toyota had a warranty enhancement program for this to be fixed but it ended in 2022. I was never informed of this program and if this is a known issues and they can verify that I haven't had this repaired before then my vehicle should be fixed at the expense of Toyota. I paid the $2800 because I was told not replacing it could cause transmission problems down the road. I called Toyota and sent them proof of ownership, proof of payment for the repair and they refuse to reimburse me in any way. Can someone please look into this for me?.

Timing chain snapped- causing irreversible damage to the engine. I now need a new engine for the vehicle.

The vehicle has a shudder at accelerating that will prevent proper acceleration. I had a few incidents where I needed to get out of a traffic situation that out me in danger and the vehicle almost stalled. I read about this shudder, Toyota das a warranty engagement notification-ze5. However it was for 8 years and under 150000 miles. I am well under 150000 but just over 8 years.

For about a year now my car kept shuddering when I would excellerate from 20 to 40 mph and I was taking it to mechanics and they didn’t know what the problem was until one day I took it to pep boys and one of the workers had the exact same car as me and told me there was a recall because I was complaining to him about that problem and he had the same problem so they fixed his car then I took it to Toyota and they told me they couldn’t fix it because there was no recall so I did a lot of research and the recall expired in July 2022 and I was still paying for my car all the way until 2023 of August. I also called customer service and was told the car recall was expired and if I want to get it fixed it would be out of pocket. It’s very dangerous to drive because my car pulls back while I’m driving and at anytime a car can hit me from behind.

The technician could not duplicate the condition. The u760e torque converter shudder recall upgrade was performed. This did not fix the problem. The service advisor said that the technician said that some transmission hesitation was normal. The service advisor also said there had been other complaints about this condition. This condition is dangerous and not normal.

I have experienced issues with my vehicle when shifting since 2017 withal minor “shudder” after shifting into a higher gear. Now, my vehicle has begun to have trouble shifting from first gear to second. When shifting, the vehicle will abruptly stop before catching in second gear and continuing. It has become a concern as I am not confident to pull out onto busy roads.

Replaced the torque converter before 57,000. According the the service ad visor this was a problem that Toyota knew about and never issue a recall. My car VIN was on a list. I was driving on a highway at 60 miles and notice the odometer won't move. It won't accelerate over 60 mph. The dealer change the torque converter but still having problems. The dealer won't give me a copy of the repair.

Takata recall when I press on gas engine is vibration and it's not moving. The front just don't feel right.

We purchased a certified used 2014. 5 Toyota Camry from baxter Toyota in April 2014. The engine has always run a bit rough and we had it checked by baxters service department several times and were told that "that was normal for that particular year, however, with the 2020 recall on the fuel pump issue it sounds like we may have the same problem and would appreciate if we could at least have our fuel pump check out in accordance with the recall.

I seen that someone was having a problem with the car feeling like the car would feel like it was braking when they pressed on the gas. I had this problem with my Camry and found out that Toyota was trying to fix there sudden acceleration problem. They put something in the brake system that stop the car from accelerating. So, I had a problem having my left foot touching the brake pedal and by touching the brake pedal it would slow the car and stop it from accelerating. I just stopped touching the brake and did not have the problem again. Try excellerating then touch the brake pedal slightly while still excellerating and see if this slows the car from excellerating. That might solve your problem.

Sudden unintended acceleration in 2014 Toyota Camry. Incident occurred Saturday October 15, 2016 in corinth, texas. Approximately 5:20pm. Weather was sunny and clear. Road conditions clear and dry. Outside air temperature approximately 80f. Driving 30mph approaching an intersection. We have the red light. Brakes applied. Brake pedal goes to the floor - no brakes at all. Immediately the engine revs up to very high rpm and unintentional, out-of-control acceleration takes place. The car goes through the intersection against the red light. No cross-traffic or otherwise there could have been a serious crash. The car is accelerating on its own. The transmission is aggressively moved into the "park" position. The car stops. Braking action returns. The engine continues to run however the rpm returns to normal. The car is cautiously driven at 35 - 40mph to local Toyota dealer - Toyota of denton, texas. If the car approaches 50mph the engine begins to rev up to high rpm however braking action remains normal. This incident has left the owners with no confidence in Toyota. The car is not trustworthy. Even if the service technicians say the car is good to go, would you allow your family members to drive this car? no way. And with Toyota's reputation over the last 10 years with handling the sudden unintended acceleration problems would you trust this car? no way. We want to be done with Toyota. The car needs to be sent to the junkyard. And we want the purchase-money loan cancelled and our down payment back. And we will go to another car manufacturer.

Ever since I purchased this car in 2014, intermittently but frequently -- when I am paused with foot on brake, for example sitting in left turn lane or in freeway on-ramp waiting for a break in traffic; when traffic opens up and I can go, I step on the gas and the car barely responds; moves forward very slowly; rpms very low; Camry is in no hurry and the break in traffic is rapidly closing; after 0. 5 to 1. 5 second delay always gets me nervous; I stomp on the gas and finally Camry rpms increase, she downshifts and at last I take off but by this time I have almost been hit by somebody because the Camry cannot get out of its own way. My car hesitates often. Mostly when I am stopped at an intersection about to turn left, it hesitates right when I'm about to turn. It hesitates for approx 1-2 secs. Unsure why. But I do loose power and concerned for my safety. I only have 15k miles.

The car computer refuses to accelerate properly when needed. When pressing on accelerator to cross busy intersection or from stop light, the exhibited 3-5 seconds of delay, it refuse to pickup speed which could cause a deadly accident! Toyota must recall the cars back and fix this problem before someone died again on the road!!!.
