Toyota Camry owners have reported 16 problems related to front seat power adjust (under the seats category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Toyota Camry based on all problems reported for the Camry.
The panel that controls the power seats broke when the plastic made contact with the front of the seat rail while adjusting the seat backwards from the most forward position while the car was stopped. When driving, the panel that broke at the front allowed the seat to engage movement without driver knowledge and causing distraction while driving. Driver put duct tape on front of panel so it would not self engage while driving. Toyota dealer advises this happens quite frequently and there should be a TSB on it but there is not. Says repair is $400. Sounds like a defect in design since I have online record of over 100 cars being affected.

The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the driver seat rolls forward automatically. She feels the pressure on her legs because the seat moves underneath the wheel and dashboard. The contact is unsure of how to stop the failure. She has not taken the vehicle to the dealer and is scared to drive it for fear that her legs may get stuck. The current mileage is 30,847 and failure mileage was 30,837.

The driver's seat which is adjusted using buttons on the side of the sea became stuck all the way forward 3 times, making it impossible for my husband to drive. The Toyota service department removed the seat, and found shards of plastic in the track. They suggested that I refrain from moving the seat all the way forward, which is tricky when you are 5' 1" tall.
I had a 2000 Toyota Camry. My wife was driving it and she is the only one in the car. 1) she stopped at highway, since all cars in front of her stopped. 2) a 98 Nissan hit her car from behind around 50-60 miles/h. My wife's car hit the car in front of her, and the car in front of her car hit another car. 3)even the front section of my wife's was serious damaged, non of the four airbag deployed. This one is not my complaint here, just provided as a reference information. 4)the driver's seat became flat (been damaged by my wife's body, and she is only around 130 lbs) right after the impact, and no more support for the body, (at this situation, seat belt does not help at all), and she slipped out of the seat, and her head hit somewhere inside the car. She got serious concusion. 5) I only saw Toyota tested front impact, side impact, did not see any rear impact. The driver's seat is supposed to support the body at the time, and it failed to stay, and let the body slip out of it, with seat belt only hook the legs. 6) the strength of the driver seat (power seat) needs to be evaluated, and I want an answer from Toyota. 4).
