9 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 1999 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/14/2011

My husband went to open the door of my 1999 Camry and it broke off in his hand. Now it I cannot get in the door if an emergency occurs, I feel unsafe when getting in my car at night, particularly when I have to work late ,at a mall or the grocery store. It is going to cost $150 or more to replace this handle. I don't think we should have to do that when I have talked to several Camry owners and they have had the same problem and Toyota has known about this. They need to fix the problem for nothing because I am in danger everytime I have to enter my car. In addition, having to open the door by grasping the metal part and then sticking my hand underneath, can injure my hand. This may not seem like a safety concern to them but it is to me.

10 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2003 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/15/2011

The rear passenger door in my 2003 Camry had a failure of the lock actuator. In mid January 2011, it just would not open, not manually unlocking at the door handle, with the lock switch in the car, or the remote unlock. The car was not hit or damaged before this happened. I took it to the dealer, for $90 they took apart the door and said the lock actuator was failing, and it would be almost $500 to replace it. I declined having it replaced at this time, since it worked after the mechanic took it apart and put it back together (it has been one week and has not locked up again yet). I will probably have to have it replaced since my child rides in the back seat, and I consider this to be a life safety problem. If the car were hit in the side that worked, I would be unable to get her out of the car, without pulling her through the front seat.

11 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 11/01/2010

The driver side sunvisor is defective in my 2007 Toyota Camry. I was driving one day and the visor suddenly fell from its up-and-locked position. The first time it fell, I pushed the visor back up into its up position and it managed to stay lock, albeit not as sturdy. Subsequently, the inability of the sunvisor to stay up intensified to the point where the thing would not stay up at all. I currently have the sunvisor tied up so it does not obstruct my view while driving. I am currently looking for a replacement for the visor. However, Toyota considers the sunvisor to be a "trim" item and will not replace the visor, even though I am covered under their platinum extended warranty.

2005 4 door Toyota Camry. Back driver's side door in locked position and does not open at all. Called gateway Toyota in toms river, NJ and they stated we would have to pay for repairs. This car has not been involved in an accident. Online complaints from other Toyota Camry owners show this is a manufacturer's problem and is occurring quite often. With children in back seat this is a big problem if an emergency were to occur!.

19 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 04/01/2010

Actuators in my 2005 Camry se continue to stick; thereby causing all of the passenger doors to not open the majority (90%) of the time. I reported the issue immediately to Toyota corporate and the dealer (baierl Toyota in cranberry, PA) because it's also a safety risk; especially since I have a 3 month year old and a 2 year old. The Toyota mechanic also reported that this should not be happening and the actuators should be replaced.

20 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2010 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

Opening the hood to add windshield wiper fluid, the hood release did not work, had to reconnect it. The power steering fluid was extremely low, have only owned car for 6 months, only 4000 miles on it. Sometimes when you let off the gas pedal, feels like the brakes engage, really slows the car down when "coasting".

My Toyota doors lock by themselves. I can be sitting in the garage and the locks just click and locks, them I have to go inside the house to get the keys to unlock the car doors. This happens at least twice a week. I never mention this to my roommate until this month February. He was washing my car and he told me on tues Feb 9th that my doors just locked by themselves he said I'm glade I had your car keys in my pant pocket. I told him I'm glade it happen to you now I know I am not crazy. I took it to Toyota dealer here in stockton California and they told me it did lock on the. 23 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2003 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/07/2010

Door locks for 2003 Toyota Camry work intermittently?? there are so many complaints on here now I would have to say there is a defect in the part (actuaries) for the door lock? I do also agree that it could pose a safety problem as sometimes the door won't unlock at all without having to force it and depending on where you are in a pond or ditch filled with water this could be very dangerous!! 24 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2004 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

This problem has to do with the power door actuator on the driver door. The malfunction started intermittently at certain temperatures. The door lock on driver side would not work when pressing the remote or pressing the power door lock button on driver door. As the problem progressed the interior door lock button and latch stopped functioning in manual mode. Not allowing the driver to exit the vehicle. The lock does not open anymore and does not override the malfunctioning door actuator. As a result, should I need to quickly egress the vehicle in an emergency such as a fire or otherwise I will not be able to do so. The only way to open the door at this time is to press the power door lock button back and forth until something catches on, and the button opens. However, this will likely not work in an emergency. I've requested that Toyota replace the faulty part, but was informed that given that the vehicle is out of warranty they are not responsible for it. I requested that they take my case to southeastern Toyota upper management to make a decision. According to the Toyota dealer I was at, the service manager for the entire southeastern united states did not agree with my complaint and did not think it was within their duties to replace the part. My investigation into the issue has revealed that this issue repeats with many other vehicles of the same model years 02-06. . Read more...

Failure Date: 12/31/2009

I have a 2005 Toyota Camry. The driver's side door is the only door that has an outside lock that works with a key. The lock began not working either with the key or with the remote. The dealer replaced the lock assembly and actuator for approximately $500. 00. Now the rear passenger side door has failed. Again they are telling me I need a new actuator. There are many complaints online from other 2005 Toyota Camry owners that describe this same failure. It seems to be a common problem for not only 2005 but other years. . Read more...

All four interior door handles have failed making it impossible to exit the car without rolling down the windows. This is potentially dangerous in case of emergency. 29 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2003 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 04/14/2009

The electric door switch, drivers side, does not always open or lock. Either by inside door lock/unlock switch or wireless/remote control. This has been happening for the last 6 months, on and off. Other doors open & unlock with inside switch and wireless/remote control. But not always the drivers side. This happens on a weekly basis. Most times it corrected, after I turned the locking button manually in, instead of hitting the electronic switch. But more and more frequently, I have to lock the door manually, by pushing in the lock button. Or having to use the key, to get inside the car. The car is a 2003 Camry le, with 29,500 miles on it. Don't drive it that much. The electronic actuator switch, solenoid switch, or perhaps the master lock switch is not working properly. A Camry should not be having this kind of a problem, with so few miles on it!!! especially when the parts to replace them with are so expensive! not counting the diagnosis labor fee, than the actual labor fee to repair!!!.
