Contact stated the right rear seat belt came undone on a passenger during an accident. The vehicle slid in a snow storm and crashed. A police report was taken. The dealer has not been contacted. The manufacturer gave the contact case number, and offered no free remedy.
About a year ago the driver-side rear shoulder belt failed to retract. I chose not to get it replaced, because my child rides on the passenger side. Now the passenger-side rear shoulder belt will not retract. My child is required by law to sit in a booster seat in the back, and it is very awkward to use the center seat with the size and shape of his booster. I will be spending nearly $600 to get the shoulder belts replaced.
I own a 2000 Toyota Camry with 65,000 miles. I acknowledge that the vehicle is out of warranty regarding the following safety device failure. The passenger side rear seat belt has failed and needs to be replaced. The best Toyota will do is charge me 50. 00 to fix it. This is in the face of a major recall for the Toyota sienna van with a recent seat belt failure. I believe that the seat belt in question is the same model in both vehicles. Toyota has agreed to replace all seat belts in the van at no charge to the van's owners. The seat belt has been certified as dead by handy Toyota, however Toyota refuses to extend the same offer to me.

Seat belt on my 98 Toyota Camry malfunctioned will not retract. My 5 year old was pulling on the seat belt and pulled it out all the way. Dealer said he would fix for $200. 00 I asked him why they don't fix it for free since it is a safety issue that's what they charge.
The seat belts in the back on the left locked about a year and half ago, couldn't do anything with it. About 6 weeks later the right one would not retract. Took vehicle to Toyota, and was told it not covered under warranty. However , did have them replaced, but they were hardly ever used.
I have driven a Toyota Camry for 14 years and have never had an accident nor a traffic citation. In October 2004 we bought a new Toyota Camry. On April 25, 2005 I drove to a meeting at a private home on a 27 acre farm. I had two passengers in the car. When backing up very slowly to turn the car around I had a sudden unexpected speed surge. Brakes did not work. I glanced off one car damaging the back bumper and putting a crease in the side, then hit a pickup truck square on its bumper knocking off the licence plate. Since there were people, cars and buildings behind me, I managed to get it out of reverse but then it surged forward (no brakes) went about 150 ft and I had to turn off the key in an attempt to slow the car down. This was on a long gravel driveway and the car was out of control. It coasted about 90 ft, went through a wire fence, hit a fence post, a roof support, and hit a 800 lb baler which moved 5 ft into a large farm sprayer. Three people witnessed what happened and heard the car when it surged backward. The rear seat belt snapped open on impact. One of the passengers was injured, one had bruises.

The child was fastened in the rear passenger side seat belt. The child leaned over to lay in the seat and slipped her head and shoulder in the center retractable seat belt. When the child moved suddenly to look out the window the seat belt tightened around her neck, strangling her. The more the child moved to free herself the tighter the belt became. The consumer had to use scissors to cut the belt off the child. The vehicle was taken to a body shop who replaced the belt and retractor. The consumer request reimbursement for this repair. Updated 11/29/2005.
Consumer's vehicle rpms went to the red zone. Consumer pulled over and parked, and driver's side window would not go up. Aaa arrived, and vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated that transmission was defective it was repaired at consumer's expense. Consumer found similar complaints on the website. The vehicle spun in a 360 degree turn on three separate occasions before it reached 24,000 miles. Consumer changed tires from the tires Toyota provided to a michelin tire and the spinning stopped. On July 12, 2004 the transmission was slipping and had to go in for service. . In 2002 the rear seatbelt on the passenger side was stuck. The consumer had it repaired at her expense. The customer would like Toyota to reimburse her for their share of the expenses occurred due to this pre-mature defect. * tc.

2 years ago I had the drivers side rear seat belt fail. The locking mechanism failed allowing the seat belt to come out and then would not retract. It had to be replaced. This past summer I had the passenger side rear seat belt develop the same problem (it also failed) and needed replacement.
Rear seat belts failed to retract. The dealer said it's not covered because of mileage over 60,000. Seat belts too large now to provide protection to kids.
Consumer states that the rear middle seat belt does not lock. Dealer notified.
Rear seat belt will not retract. I noticed several other complaints about this from consumers. I believe it is time the manufacturer took note of this problem.
Front passenger side and rear passenger side seat belts locked up while driving. This caused bruises on the chest of passengers in those seating positions. Dealer could not duplicate or determine the cause of the problem.
The contact states the rear seat belt buckle assembly gets lodged under the seat. This makes the seat belt inoperative. The dealership advised him to connect the seat belt when not in use, so the buckle will not go under the seat. This has been a problem since he purchased the vehicle and no corrections have been made.
Driver's side rear seatbelt failed to retract in October, 2002. Replaced by Toyota of durham. On another occasion, the passenger's side rear seatbelt failed to retract.
Back seat passenger side seat belt will not retract. Occurred just after 60,000 miles and dealer said not covered under warranty. Now 109,672.
I took the car to the dealer. They ordered a left-side back seat belt rather than the center belt. They re-ordered and told me the belt should be in today (9/13/00). I called today and am now told that it will not be here until at least next Thursday or Friday. I asked if it was coming from japan and was told that it probably was. This is a very big safefy issue as I have three children - ages 4, 9 & 10. All are too small for the front seat. I am not sure what to do next.
Placing a child seat in the middle of the rear seat and belting it in does not secure the child seat from tipping or moving laterally. Owner states that her vehicle's rear center seat belt emerges about two feet wider than in most vehicles.
Rear seat belts are too short to fit around self or anyone else the same size. Manufacturer has been notified about the problem. Please provide any further information.
