Toyota Camry owners have reported 10 problems related to rearview system braking (under the back over prevention category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Toyota Camry based on all problems reported for the Camry.
The rear camera has stopped working. It started working intermittently approximately 6 months ago and now it does not work at all. The warning light saying that it was not available would come on when it first started having a problem but that stopped when it stopped working completely. It will show rear cross traffic alert at times but no picture and not every time there is traffic. It has been inspected for any sign of damage to camera wiring, none found.

The blind spot warning and rear cross traffic alert systems went out on my new vehicle at about 3500 miles. There are warnings for both that come up on my dashboard. I brought my vehicle in for its 5000 mile check-up and asked Toyota to check into it. Their tech said the outage was caused by the vehicle being in a collision and they were going to charge me to repair the safety systems. The thing is that this vehicle has not been in a collision. I believe it was a faulty installation of the systems. I am not going to pay for something not caused by me when the vehicle is new and under full warranty. I am making this complaint so that maybe there are other vehicles with the same issue and we can get repairs covered by Toyota under a recall.

Rcta alert signal is to low. I can not hear it at all. I turned in a 2015 avalon, that system , I would say was at medium level, easily indentifiable as an alert warning signal. I assume that the change of mounting position from the shelf behind the back seat to the trunk or the warning device itself is the cause of the low volume.

Rear seatbelt alarms go off when there are no occupants in the rear. Sometimes when backing up the screen freezes and back up camera is not usable.

Since the day this brand new car rolled off of the lot, I noticed an issue with the android auto usage via the infotainment system. Roughly between 5 and 15 times throughout a 30 minute drive the map will glitch and freeze and so will any music being streamed via android auto. This happens no matter which phone or cable is connected. This is extremely annoying and distracting to me when driving and frankly inexcusable for a brand new 2022 car with 0 miles on it that I bought 8 months ago and it still does this to this day. Also, the rear camera detection system often fails saying that there is dirt on the camera when there clearly isn't any. Finally the key fob sometimes fails to work. The dealer could not figure out the problem and would not fix it. I would upload the service records and video documentation of these issues, but the files are a bit too large and am having issues uploading them. I would gladly send them to you if provided another way of doing so.

I bought my Camry with 5 miles on it. It’s a 2. 5l 8 speed Camry se. Immediately I felt something not right when it would shift between 3/4 gear. It would rock back and forth in a jerking motion. The car has trouble shifting in automatic. When putting it into sport mode it automatically starts at 4th geer. It’s as if the gear shifters are not able to communicate with the engine. It’s stall on me when making a turn and I was almost t-boned June of 2018! finally a recall on the fuel pump. I go take it in immediately to have the recall fix. Upon doing so the mechanic informed me that my vacuum pump seems to be bigger than the one that standard for my car. He said there’s no recall for my VIN number but for other cars during that same year there is. So there was nothing I could do but wait for my VIN number to be on the recall list. Then in June 2021 I was backing out of a parking spot and there was a truck in my rear cross traffic that was approaching, my Camry sensed the vehicle with it sonar sensor the alert went off and my braking assistance worked accordingly but the system failed to get the communication clearly to the engine which in return did not slow down the acceleration of the throttle. So I backed into a truck and my son and myself were in the vehicle. No airbags were dispensed. No injuries but damages to my trunk lid, tail light, brake light and number were damaged. My car now has airbag malfunction and the steering assistance is working correctly.
The problem is with the rear camera system. I get a message saying "rcd off" and "rcd unavailable. " the rear camera works but is missing the yellow grid lines, and it does not alert if a pedestrian or vehicle is approaching from the side. This happens whenever the vehicle is in reverse, whether it is moving or staionary. This is a sfaety risk because the driver is not alerted if a pedestrian or other vehicle is approaching, which could lead to vehicle damage, injury or death.
Left rear cross traffic sensor fell into rear bumper (adhesive failure?). This is the second incident. Toyota service manager claims it was knocked into bumper by external force although that is not what happened. The sensor failed when groceries were loaded into trunk during covid. This is the exact sensor that was repaired by the service department previously claiming it was due to adhesive failure. There is no way to disable the sensor failure alarm on the dashboard display so there is a constant rear sensor failure alarm blinking constantly on the dashboard which is annoying.
