My dashboard is very sticky, shiny and melting. It is so shiny that it makes a glare upon my windshield, impairing the visibility. I have only used a damp cloth to clean the dashboard. I googled this condition and found many other camry owners of 07, 08, and 09 year cars from hawaii, us mainland, and australia that have problems with their dashboard melting. It is soft and sticky at nightime and in the shade also. This is clearly defective material used for the dashboard. I am concerned abut fumes from the melting material when entering the car when it is hot. I believe Toyota should replace this as it is not covered under warranty, even if it was still under warranty.
Driving on the road, everything was normal, then my entire dashboard lights up with all the warning signs. The internal car displays vsc maintenance required, and I'm thinking I didn't do anything. I just got the car this year. There shouldn't be a problem like this. The brakes were very hard to press down on to even brake. I fee like the brakes just stopped working or the brake itself would let me brake as normal. Little shocked because I'd had crash into the driver in front of me. I started to drive very slow. Then the lights and warning signs went away, and my brakes were back to normal. I felt like it was just a computer glitch and started to drive normally again. After I did, the car again went off with the warning signs on the dashboard and the vsc display was on again stating maintenance was required one again. So I started to drive slow once again. Went to a repair shop they said my brakes were good, and that the car probably needed to get it check because of the hybrid system. This only happen during the summer. During the winter it goes off, to which I still felt like it was a computer glitch. Went to the dealer recently and they said that my accumulator needs to be replace. I asked how does something like this occur. The mechanic stated somewhere in the lines of it's a man made part so it's can happen from time to time. But in my opinion, if I did everything like I was suppose to do, this should not happen. The total repair for the part is $1892! that's with labor included! seriously, why does a part that is so important to the car that expensive?! and why doesn't Toyota report on this technical issue for their cars?.
We bought this 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid in January 2007. I started noticing the dashboard began to get sticky and shiny. I've never used any harsh chemicals or any chemicals used to clean the dashboard. The rest of the car is well taken care of but as the years went by, the dashboard has just gotten worse. I began doing research and found that others had the same problem. Many have been told it's not part of the warranty. I believe it's a manufacture's defect. Not only is it dirty looking, it also has a shine to it and that has potential to be very dangerous. Especially on a bright sunny day, the shine from the dashboard reflects up to the windshield making it very difficult to see and the same issue arrises when driving at night.
The dashboard on this vehicle started to melt making it look glossy which causing reflection on the windshield and obstructing driver's visibility.
My Toyota Camry Hybrid 2007 model had the uncontrollable acceleration problem on multiple instances making it hard to control and once in a potentially life threatening situation. I called the closest dealership and took it for examination, they asked me to reproduce the problem on the spot, but I was not able to at that instant. The dealership then later said it was likely due to floor mats and I had the floor mats secured (even thought that did not appear to be the cause. ) based on recent reports I am concerned that it is likely due to a different mechanical problem acknowledged by Toyota. However I have not seen any recall or repair notifications for my car yet and I am concerned about the safety of my car.
There is an electrical or chemical burning smell that is present. The smell has been present since the time I bought the car. Initially, I did not think anything of it and was told by the dealer that it was due to the newness of the hybrid engine. However, the smell has never dissipated over the years. I have become tolerant to the smell but passengers continue to comment on the smell, it permeates our clothing, luggage (in the truck), etc. The Toyota dealer acknowledges the problem but has not offered any way to remedy this situation. I have become increasingly concerns at the urging of others that there is the potential for harmful health consequences. There are a number of hybrid online forums/discussion groups discussing the same smell in their Toyota hybrid cars, it does not appear to be limited to the camry model.
