2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2016

I found out the car I purchased from a dealer is giving me problems with the tires beaks and alignment. The car had wrong size tires , the breaks were uneven also when I would drive over a puddle it would shake. I spend money on getting new tires paying for alignment and the problems continues, I found the axle and power steering rack with part problems. That need fixing also the steering wheel is not centered and the wheel hub has broken its bolts I think its a faulty manufacture issue. The tmps has also have problems with lighting up on the dash board and not turning off tmps I think is the air pressure in the wheels.

3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2016

I have had failure to disclose issues with this car. I have had an accident in which the airbag did not deploy and brake had difficulty. I had a bad accident and have reached out to Toyota to wither repair my car or setup rental or make a payment for rental. I do not want to drive this car until repaired, therefore renting for the past 3 months.

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2014

Upon starting my car, on this particular morning, I noticed a revving sound. It didn't sound like anything normally related to start-up, but I assumed that maybe it was a momentary glitch. I switched the car into reverse and the revving sound increased. It sounded as if someone had floored the accelerator. (I was later asked how many mph. To me, it sounded as though I were going about 50 mph. ) while in reverse, and with the increasing revving sound and rpm, my brakes locked on me and the dashboard lights all came on. I was able to shift back into park and shut off the car. I contacted Toyota to inquire about any recalls on my car and explained what had taken place. I was told by the corporation that there were no recalls and to bring it in for servicing to the dealership. The dealership pulled up a service history report showing that they had done a recall repair on my car several years earlier. They dismissed my claim, saying that they could find nothing wrong with my car and that it was driver error. The service manager refused to submit a report for investigation into unintended acceleration, stating that he believed that an increase in rpm is unrelated to acceleration. He also made several attempts to sell me another car. I appealed to the corporate office for Toyota recall. I expressed my concern over the safety of my vehicle and the risk of continuing to operate it. Their sentiments were, "what do you want me to do?". Over a several day period, Toyota stated they could find nothing- even with their advanced diagnostic process that they insisted I underwent. I took my car to a third-party certified mechanic, who was able to identify that part of the problem may have been related to a battery leak and a terminal that needed replacement. I do not feel that Toyota took a genuine interest in my issue, due to the lack of opportunity to profit from my problem.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2014

I was driving in the coutry with my daugher. I was driving slow because I had never driven that road before and there was a speed limit 30 and the 45 mph. There was a stop sign where I needed to turn right. I started slowing down but the car would complete the stop. So, I turned right and the car suddenly accelerated and got out of control. It was accelerating and moving left and right like crazy. I tried to hold the steering wheel tight but I wasn't able to do that because it was out of control. The breaks didn't work either. There were small hills on the both sides onf the road that's why the car kept driving from side to side. Probably 3000-4000 feet from the stop sign there was a big iron gate leading to the pasture. My car knocked down the whole gate and kept moving into the pasture. Finally the car hit another poll and a fence and stopped. The car is totaled. Fortunately I didn't suffer any serious injures except I suffered constant headaches for a couple of weeks and my daughter had long scraches across her throat from a seatbelt. This is a miracle that we are alive. If it had happened on a highway, it would have been really bad. Two of our church members drove 2 minutes after me so that I received help from them. They didn't witness the crash but they saw where it happened, how the place of accident looked like, and long marks that my car left on the sides of the road. Also, I got a police report where it says that the driver didn't do anything improper and there is a map of the place of the accident attached. I have contacted Toyota and haven't had any response yet. First the representative said that it takes them 30 days to make a decision, later he said that it's 60 days. The inspector came and got the cdr data from the car. He didn't explain anything to me but he emailed a crash data files and said to wait a call from Toyota.

The failure mileage was 39,742 and the current mileage was 39,782.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2010

In 2010 , engine light started to come on and off, I went to Toyota, was told the light had to be on at the time for proper diagnosis at a fee. I have also gone to other service locations for a second opinion and was told, after a complimentary diagnosis, that it was caused by the throttle. Recently, I received a notice of a civil lawsuit from other Toyota owners with my VIN number ( last 4 digits) due to a defective trottle that has caused car crashes due involuntary acceleration. I have called a local Toyota dealer in hollywood, FL on taft street and 441, spoke with an employee who confirmed there was a recall for the defective trottle and scheduled an appointment to bring the car in for adjustment at no cost. I took the car in on Saturday, April 5, spoke with another employee who advised there was no recall for my car, will have it checked anyway. After 2 hours of waiting, he reiterated there was no recall for my car, advised there is a problem with ecm at a fee of $180. 00 plus $3 - $4k for transmission and an extended list of other problems to repair. I have just checked site and see engine recall reflected for Toyota Corollas year 2003-2008, and am reaching out to you for your assistance. This is a fairly new car and should not have this problem that Toyota is not owning up to. Thank you for your attention and assistance.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Corolla. The contact was driving approximately 25 mph in rainy weather when the vehicle began to skid abnormally. The contact attempted to apply the brakes and the vehicle then turned 180 degrees before crashing into a pole. The vehicle sustained substantial body damage. The vehicle was then towed to an authorized dealer where the contact was advised that there were no failure found within the vehicle. The dealer stated that the vehicle would be further inspected. The failure and current mileage was 31,000.

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2010

Twice, upon severe braking from freeway speeds my 2008 Toyota Corolla experienced severe instability and wandered all over the highway. My Toyota dealer inspected the vehicle and determined the brakes were operating as designed, but blamed the instability on the lack of abs or skid control on my vehicle. I think all vehicles should stop in a straight line without these aids, as all my previous automobiles dating back to 1936 all have done.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2010

Tl-the driver owns a 2008 Toyota Corolla. While driving at 37 mph the brakes were applied but failed. The vehicle stopped when one of the tires went flat. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop. The failure and current mileages were 30,850. Sm.

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2010

Driving on my way to work was involved in a crash in which my brakes did not come to a complete stop, causing me to crash in to a car in front of me.

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2009

2008 Toyota Corolla. Vehicle was parked, started and then put in reverse. Upon applying the brakes while in reverse the car would not stop. Seems as if the brakes would not engage. Vehicle hit a mailbox and then stopped. Same problem occurred approx 1 month later. Again low vehicle speed and no accident reported.

13 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2009

Problems with the brakes were reported to the Toyota dealer in 12/08. They dismissed the complaint. In Feb. 2009, the car brakes did not work and the car crashed into another vehicle. The police report clearly states that the brakes did not work. Vehicle was towed and taken to the Toyota dealer, again, the dealer dismissed the complaint saying everything was ok. The dealer and the sales and technical specialist. Said that everything was ok and alluded to the age of the driver as a possible cause of the accident. I am concerned that the problem may be with stuck gas pedal but they never checked or mentioned this as a possible cause. As a consumer, this would not even occur to me. I can simply state that the car crashed because the brakes did not work. Toyota refuses to check to see if the 2008 Corolla also has problems with sticky gas pedals with this vehicle. We need your help in insuring our safety because we are afraid that Toyota will not.

14 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2009

Brakes are locking the wheels without application of brakes and the disks are getting smokey and hot. This problem is appearing randomly. The vehicle was taken to the fort bend Toyota dealership (20465 southwest freeway, richmond, texas, 281-341-5900) where it was purchased from. On 04/13/2009 the vehicle stayed at the service department all the day and was returned with comment "no problem found" (customer #: 349764, invoice #: 184059). The problem appeared again on 04/17/2009 evening and 04/18/2009 morning. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealership again. It seems the dealership is trying to coverup the manufacturer's defect and not repairing it. This could damage the vehicle. Please advise us.

15 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2008

My wife was driving her new (one month old) 2008 Toyota Corolla (basic 4-door sedan) on a local expressway when the car in front braked abruptly. My wife applied the brakes but could not bring the car to a complete halt even though there was considerable distance between the two vehicles. She complained that the brakes were "loose". We took the car to the dealer immediately, but they told us there was no problem with the brakes. We left thinking maybe it was our driving- though we are very safe drivers. Since then, whenever I drove the vehicle, a number of times I found that the car does not stop when I brake, and I usually have to swerve to the side to avoid the car in the front. We have found this problem when we are driving usually between 35-45mph speed. Now with Toyota discovering problems with the brakes in 2009-10 vehicles, I suspect this problem also exists in the 2008 Toyota Corolla vehicles as well.

16 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2008

Loud, cracking sound in brakes.

17 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Corolla. While driving approximately 10-15 mph in her driveway the front end of the vehicle began to make a clanking noise. She turned the vehicle off, observed the noise, and restarted the vehicle. As she engaged the brakes, they did not responded as normal. The vehicle was taken to three dealers who were unable to duplicate the failure. She stated that the failure was intermittent at first but the longer she drove the vehicle the more constant the failure became. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who stated that the shims were missing which he added additional ones. The contact also stated that when you engaged the accelerator pedal everything that was electrical began to dim low and then normal. She also stated that the rear defroster does not work. The contact stated that the dealer performed a diagnostic test and was unable to locate the failure. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 38,027.

18 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2007

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Corolla. While driving approximately 50 mph with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle decelerated to 40 mph. The contact released the brake pedal and when she attempted to reapply the brakes, the pedal would not move. After 30 seconds, the pedal moved slightly, but the vehicle would not stop and crashed into the rear end of another vehicle. The road conditions were wet. A police report was filed. The vehicle was driven to the dealer. While at the dealer, the gear would not shift from park into drive. The vehicle remains at the dealer and has not been repaired. The front license plate was dented. The current and failure mileages were 1,000.

19 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2007

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Corolla. While the contact was driving down an incline approximately between 40-45 on wet road surfaces, the brakes were engaged and suddenly the compression braking system activated. The front wheels began to lock resulting in the vehicle to skid sideways. When the gear was shifted into the neutral position the contact was able to gain complete control of the vehicle and resumed normally. The contact stated when encountering wet, icy or snow covered roads the failure would occur. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The technician was unable to locate a problem and informed that there was not a recall related to the failure. An incident report was filed with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 37,500.
