1 Brake Grinding Noise problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2010

Month: February and March 2010 weather: dry roads speed: less than 35mph on two occurrences, I tried to brake to stop my car. The brakes made a very loud grinding noise, and the car did not slow down. I released the brake and then pressed it all the way to the floor, at which point the car stopped. I called the dealership and they seemed very unconcerned about it. I am scared to drive my car.

2 Brake Grinding Noise problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2010

The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Corolla. The contact was driving approximately 40 mph slight pressure was applied to the accelerator pedal which caused the speed rate to increase rapidly; and upon release of the accelerator pedal a rapid decrease occurred. There was prior recall repair performed on the vehicle before the failure. The NHTSA campaign id number was unknown. Additionally, a loud grinding noise came from the front end of the vehicle when the brake pedal was engaged. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and informed that there was no problem with the vehicle and to increase the sound of the radio louder while driving to avoid the grinding noise. The failure mileage was 34,000. The current mileage was 35,800.

3 Brake Grinding Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2009

The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Corolla. The contact noticed a grinding noise most of the time when she depressed the brake pedal. She took the vehicle to the dealer who stated that they could not find anything wrong with it. The failure continued to occur and the dealer turned the rotors to remedy the problem; however, she continued hearing the grinding noise. In September 2009, she took the vehicle to the dealer who replaced the brake pads and rotors. She no longer noticed the noise; yet, the brake pedal extended to the floor with a sudden pulling and grabbing motion. The dealer told her that the abs activated which caused that feeling. She also stated that the vehicle would suddenly accelerate on an intermittent basis. In December 2009, the driver crashed into a brick wall when the vehicle suddenly accelerated. There were no injuries. The dealer took pictures and told her that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. Furthermore, the gear shift broke and the dealer did not repair the vehicle for six months. She called the manufacturer and was unable to speak with a representative. The current mileage was approximately 17,000. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.

4 Brake Grinding Noise problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2008

The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Corolla. While driving approximately 60 miles per hour, the contact applied the brakes and noticed a grinding noise. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was advised that nothing was wrong with the vehicle. The contact attempted to speak with the manufacturer but had not received a call back. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 5. The current mileage was 24,688.
