2 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2019

Steering wheel locked when I am backing up my car to do reverse parking. It happened only once. It stared working when I tried to move forward and came back to normal. I showed it to Toyota authorized service center and they said they could not find anything wrong with steering.

3 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2019

Difficulty turning steering wheel. I was pulling out of a store parking lot & onto a main street and as I was driving and beginning to turn right the steering wheel became very stiff and difficult to turn. I became anxious because I was halfway on the main street so I used both hands to turn my vehicle onto the street and looked for the nearest side street to get out of harms way. Once I got onto a side street many if not all lights on my center console illuminated (brake light, battery, abs, vcs, engine light etc. ). I have about 140000 miles on my vehicle.

4 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2019

On 08/30/2019 I was driving down a suburban city street going 40mph and slowed down to make a left turn, but was unable to move the steering wheel because is hadu locked up and would not turn. I was terrified because I had to come to a complete in the middle of the street because the car kept moving straight ahead. I was afraid of being hit, because I could get the steering wheel to turn. Out of desperation and fear, I grabbed the left side of the steering wheel with both hands and tried to pull down to make the steering wheel turn. . . I was using extreme force, pulling numerous times before the steering wheel finally moved the wheels to the left so I could make the left hand turn. But when I tried to turn the steering wheel to the right to straighten the wheels and continue moving straight ahead, the same thing occurred. . . . The steering wheel required excessive force, using two hands pulling down on the same side of the steering wheel repeated times to get the car in position to move forward. By the grace of god, no traffic came down the road in either direction. I continued traveling down the straight road for two miles, until I came to a stoplight where I had to make another left turn. When the light turned green, the same thing occurred. . . I had to repeated apply excessive force to get the steering wheel to turn, which seemed like an eternity. This time there was traffic behind me beeping their horns to get out of the way, but since the power steering was not working, it took about 1-2 minutes pull the steering wheel to turn the car. I turned on the flasher lights, drove 10mph and continued home. The car drove straight: steering wheel locked-up and required exessive force for next four right/left turns I had to make to get home. Afraid to drive car; injured rt rotor cup using such force to turn the steering wheel. Taking to Toyota dealer tomorrow for diagnosis.

5 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2019

Sudden failure of steering while driving. Current mileage around 116,000. Had been driving for about 30min around 15-35mph on city streets when steering suddenly locked up at about 15mph while I was merging lanes. Became incredibly difficult to turn steering wheel. After 3 straight blocks and no cars in the road, I had to use 3 lanes and alot of force to attempt to turn right in order to get off the main road and on to a side street. I let running car sit for about 5 minutes while I tried to call for help. . . Then the steering suddenly started to work again and was able to drive again. I'm very concerned about this happening again. This is extremely dangerous. I can't imagine what would happen on a freeway.

6 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2019

Electric steering stopped working and all warning lights lit up. I shut off the car and restarted and returned home. Car is in the driveway since.

7 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2019

Steering the Corolla is difficult and requires intense effort. The issue is the car wonders/swerves and is thus difficult to keep tracking correctly. This is first electric power steering vehicle I have owned and perhaps it respond differently from hydraulic steering but this steering issue is very dangerous, taking your eyes off the road even to scan gauges will have you steering off the road or adjacent lane. Just bought this vehicle 1/19 with only 70k so it's in mint condition and no accident history or evidence to blame.

8 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2018

When turning the steering wheel it seems to just lock up and doesn't want to turn, and I have to force the steering wheel to turn. It happens about 2 to 3 times a week. I was almost hit by a car the other day because I could not get turn the corner fast enough because I was trying to turn the wheel. It also feels like it's locking up when I am driving down the highway also. I read hundreds of other complaints regarding this exact same issue on other 2010 Toyota Corollas.

9 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2018

When I am driving my 2010 Toyota Corolla s on the highway at speeds of over 50 mph it does not stay straight. It requires alot of strength to keep it straight. It feels like the car is being moved to the right or left by winds. Feels very unsafe to drive. The steering wheel is so stiff to turn sometimes. I have done the wheel alignment several times and put on new tires recently but the problem still remains. Very unsafe to drive and I get very tired after driving at highway speeds just maintaining in my own lane. The dealer's are not much helpful at all with this. I've read online alot of people having problems with this make and model with the steering. There needs to be an investigation on this soon because it's very dangerous to drive.

At approx 11:30 pm on July 15th 2016, my fiancé, myself and 2 of our friends were heading home from downtown miami on I-95. It was raining extremely hard, so everyone was going well below the speed limit. I would approx we were going 35-40 mph. The car in front of us slammed on his breaks due to the rain coming down extremely hard, and I proceeded to do the same. However instead of my car breaking, it began accelerating 10-15mph. Luckily there were no cars to my right and I was able to veer out of the way of the car in front of us, or else we would of been in a horrible car accident and possibly dead. As expected, my fiancé is extremely shooken up by what happened. I know this is a known issue with the 2010 Corolla and I have taken my car in for all the recalls and inspections but obviously there is something still wrong with the 2010 Corollas because I almost died tonight die to unexpected acceleration.

I took it to Toyota and they centered the steering and added a upgrade circuit board which to fix the problem. I have been ill for the last three years and unable to use the car and had other people drive me. They also had steering problems. When I started driving again I started having the same problem and believe the car is a danger to any one driving it. I took the car back to Toyota 8/2015 and they said the wandering was normal for the model using electric steering. I had technician do a 8 mile test drive to confirm the problem. While exiting interstate ramp to the right, steering would not turn back straight and continued turning to the right, braked hard and car stopped on right shoulder of ramp turned car off and restarted steering went back to working. Something similar to this has happened several times. Have taken car to several Toyota dealerships and they do a quick check and say there is nothing wrong. This week I have left car at florence Toyota and told them to keep it all week to try and find problem. Have seen online that there are all kinds of similar complaints. 34 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

While my daughter was taking a left hand turn into supermarket entrance, her steering locked up on her. She has been driving this car since middle of June 2014 when car was purchased for her. I have owned Toyotas in the past, and have known them to be reliable vehicles. This incidence has happened multiple times since this time, and Toyota apparently knows of the problem. They even recognize it as being some form of electronic powering steering issue, whos cost is upwards of 1400. 00 to repair. I am completely dumbfounded by this (clearly a safety issue), that is suppose to cost me, the consumer another 1400. 00 to repair. I have read of this issue in previous logs, news reports, and complaints. Why has Toyota or NHTSA not forced this issue. I believe now that this is unsafe for my daughter to drive, and do not have the funds to purchase another vehicle. If safety is not a concern here, I am not sure what merits that distinction. Signed, a very upset parent and once loyal Toyota customer.

35 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2014

When making a right turn out of a parking lot my steering wheel locked. I turned off the car for about 5 minutes and when I turned it back on everything was fine. It is important to note that no indicator lights came on. The next day I took the car over to the Toyota dealership. At this point the steering was fine. The dealership charged me 99 dollars and did a diagnostic, which turned up nothing. Assuming that the car was ok, and this steering wheel lock was just a one time thing I continued to drive the car as normal. A few days later the same thing happened. I went back to the dealer and they still couldn't find anything wrong. This steering lock keeps happening to me. The wheel locks, I turn off the car, I turn it back on and everything is fine. My biggest fear is that the wheel will lock in a place where I dont have the ability to pull over and turn the car off and on to get the wheel unlocked. After doing some research online I found that there are hundreds of people with the same problem. I contacted a independent mechanic who said the problem is most likely in the electric power steering motor. The part alone is about 1400 dollars. I know there are service bulletins out to dealers about the electronic power steering but I don't know if this is covered. I don't think its fair that I have to pay for a repair that is Toyota's fault. There are multiple problems with Toyota's and for that matter almost all car companies electronic power steering system. Why are these system still allowed to be used. The only one to suffer in the consumer. Anyway, my car is a 2010 Toyota Corolla le. Please let me know is there is a recall or a service bulletin to fix this problem.
