Car: Toyota Corolla base 5 speed manual transmission 2010 I purchased the car new from a Toyota dealership and it immediately had problems with shifting into reverse. From the 2nd day that I had the car, with 54 miles on the odometer, the whole car would shake and shudder as I put the gear into reverse. The gear would clunk into reverse, causing the transmission to shake and shudder and it is sometimes difficult to even get it to engage. The car was brought back to the dealership 3 times for the same reason with no improvement. A case was opened with a field branch and closed with the conclusion that the car was operating under normal conditions. The problem was reproducible by myself in front of the manager, the service writer and the technicians at the dealership all drove it and were able to reproduce the same issue. They say that all the Corolla cars do that and that it is normal. The problem has progressed to the gear grinding when trying to engage now. The clutch is completely pressed down and the gear is moved into reverse and it grinds twice before finally engaging. No parts were replaced, no work was done to correct the problem. It is difficult to put the car into reverse which causes problems with everyday driving and makes it dangerous to not be able to reverse at a moment's notice if necessary.
