Excessive amount of rust for mileage of car 156k as of writing frame is flaking/scaling even after application of por-15 to try and salvage the frame to make it last a while longer. Replacement of tank straps at 120k due to failure from rust. Car will become unsafe to drive in a short period this seems to be a very common issue with this frame/year area as Toyota already has replaced the tacoma frames that were rusting/rotting the same way.

40 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2019

Bought my fj new in 2007. When I did I asked if they had rusty jones or undercoating and was told with the new alloys I didnt need it. 3 weeks ago I was having my mechanic check the brakes and he called me down to show me a break in the frame connecting to the body. Thankfully he found it because I was supposed to go to boston the next day. The truck only has 139,000 miles on it and the frame is completely rusted out so its not safe to drive. I brought it to the dealer I purchased it from and 2 reps came down from nh to look at who basically told me I had a good ride with it and they would do nothing. I then called Toyota cec and was told the same. I brought to a welder who specializes in this type of work and was told 5000+ in labor alone and thats without seeing under the gas tank so he said it wouldnt be worth it as he banged of the rust in other spots and there was no metal to weld to left. Brake and fuel lines are swelled from the rusty metal tubing. I consider myself lucky as I often take my grandkids in the fj. So now im left with my other fj that I bought new in 2008 which is ok underneath. The issue is with all the 2007 fj frames like their tundras and tacomas. I have opened a case with Toyota but there are so many there should be a recall as these are unsafe to drive. The body is ready to collapse on the frame. I was told privately that Toyota chooses to ignore the issue as they no longer make the fjs but still sell tacomas and tundras. ## VIN passed ## 2007 Toyota Fj Cruiser ##.

42 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2019

Frame is rusting out- truck only has 142k on it. Told today it will probably fail inspection next year as it barely passed today. This is a huge safety concern and affects the structural integrity of the vehicle Toyota has settled with tacoma, tundra owners but ignores issue with fj.

43 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2019

My vehicle is prematurely getting eaten by a rapid and uncontrollably growing rust issue. This is very unsafe as the gas tank almost fell off while driving due to the straps being corroded and the frame is getting weaker to the point I can feel the body flexing in situations it does not need to be flexing.

49 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2019

I am experiencing sever rust, especially on the underside of my 2007 Toyota Fj Cruiser. This has caused the exhaust mounts to break, the loss of the skid plate which deteriorated as parts of it were trying to hang on and even my gas tank straps broke! the exhaust broke while I was driving around town for work but I was able to safely pull over and have a colleague temporarily reattach it. The skid plate happened over time until it was in pieces and had to be removed the rest of the way and the gas tank strap happened on a road trip in northern michigan and we were able to ratchet strap it back in place for the rest of the time.

2007 Toyota Fj Cruiser. There is widespread and significant rusting on the frame and drivetrain components. Well-maintained, and not located in a salty environment, nor an environment where the roads are ever salted. This vehicle is utilizes the same frame as another Toyota vehicle (4runner), and that vehicle was involved with the frame-rusting recall during the same time period this vehicle was manufactured.

54 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2019

Took the truck into the dealer for service on the brakes and they told us the frame was rusted out. There are lawsuits on certain Toyota models that Toyota is honoring for fixing. However, when we called Toyota they told us that the fj crusier was not one and they could not help us out. We do not agree with this since this is obviously a problem with Toyota vehicles. We feel that they owe us a new frame free of charge. This is a replacement cost of $6,000. 00 which we feel they should pay.

55 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2018

Took the vehicle in for oil change and check a transmission fluid leak. Dealer found large amounts of rust on frame and suspension and noted, "not recommended to drive. ".

The dealer then took several pictures of the corrosion on the vehicle. The contact was warned by the dealer to not drive off road or use the vehicle to tow due to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. VIN was not available.

57 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2018

I took my car in for an inspection at my Toyota dealership today. I was told if I'm going to sell it or trade it in that now would be the time to do it. . . The tech said there are some very weak areas on the frame and that it could fracture with impact or maybe will eventually by hitting a bad pothole. There is a lot of corrosion and it seems odd because the vehicle has been stored always in a garage and only has 55,000 miles on it. It's been maintained perfectly in accordance with the maintenance manual. The clerk told me that Toyota can't fix it and won't be able to fix it once the frame fractures. It seemed frightening to me that they suggested I sell it to someone else and not disclose this potentially life threatening issue. I have read the extreme undercarriage corrosion is pretty common and others are having worse issues than I have so far. I have also now read that there was a massive recall due to the same issue with corroded frames on several other models in the Toyota line in the very recent past that ended up in a massive, almost 4 billion dollar recall. I'm pretty sure the fj should have been included in it. I hope you will look into this because it seems like it may save some lives down the road. My father was the director of research for state farm for over 30 years and was on the board of the national highway safety institute as well. He insisted I report this immediately and we both hope you take this information very seriously as I am not someone who could sell a vehicle with such an incredibly unsafe furture and hope Toyota will do the right thing and replace the frames on these vehicles as they have with all of the others.

58 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2017

The national highway traffic safety administration needs to open an investigation into reports of frame rust and corrosion problems for the 2007 2014 Toyota Fj Cruiser. This is the same ongoing safety problem as the several past recalls on other full framed Toyota vehicles. Corrosion complaints have been filed as early as 2008 and should be noted: NHTSA id number: 10257254 incident date December 17, 2008 the excessive rust corrosion on the Toyota Fj Cruiser compromises the vehicles safety, stability, and crash-worthiness because important suspension components, engine mounts, transmission mounts, and body mounts anchor to the vehicles frames. It has also affected the value of the vehicle. The frames are prone to excessive, premature rust corrosion because the frames were not properly prepared and treated against rust corrosion when they were manufactured. My Fj Cruiser is stored, covered, and not driven in the winter and exhibits frame rust above and beyond normal wear and tear. Toyota has long known the frames were not treated properly and yet they failed to warn new buyers or offer significant help to owners. This is the same ongoing safety problem as the several past recalls on other full framed Toyota vehicles.
