36 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 Toyota Highlander

Failure Date: 03/26/2014

While driving down highway 17 south towards santa cruz, California on a raining Wednesday morning, I suddendly felt my vehicle loosing control in a slippery downhill highway and I hit the center divider with the left front of vehichecle and car spunned multiple times and hitting the left rear bumper to the wall facing the oncoming traffic. There are 4 of us in the vehicle all wearing seat beatls and suffed injuries. The airbags did not deploy and the antilock brake system did not activate. My insurance company declared the vehicle total lost. I was advised to contact Toyota dealership in fremont to investigate the reasons why the air bag and abs did not activate. I am about to call the dealership once they open in few minutes.

38 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 Toyota Highlander

Failure Date: 09/03/2013

Airbag sensor light deployed, and remained lit for approximately 3 days. Toyota dealership at pullman, wa diagnosed the problem as a faulty spiral cable; the spiral cable assemby was replaced at a cost of $491. 69. I wonder why there was a recall done on ~450,000 tacomas, but not on the Highlander. It sounds like a similar problem: poor engineering leads to friction, causing a short in the cable. Warning light goes on, and the driver air bag may not deploy during a wreck. I could think of 1001 better ways to spend $500!!!.

Without prejudice my vehicle was rear -ended by another vehicle at speed of approximately 75, and got crashed on to the car in front at speed of 40 to 50. Air bags failed to deploy and dash board indicator light came on and it does not go off. I strongly believe this is a manufacturer defect. This SUV consists with six air bags. Non of them responded. I purchase with confidence that air bags are in working order. Manufacturer risk our life for nearly two years. I deserve compensation for risking 6 lives.

42 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2005 Toyota Highlander

Failure Date: 09/25/2011

We were involved in a horrible accident. A motorcycle was speeding and crashed into the driver's side of the vehicle. The door was severely bashed in, the steel frame of the vehicle was bent, and the floor was coming up. I called Toyota to ask why the side curtain airbag did not deploy. Two different people took reports. Today they called me and told me that they would only deploy if there was a severe intrusion, enough for people to be hurt. I was hurt (back and head) and my little cousin suffered a nosebleed. He also said the most important safety feature is seatbelts. I said there was a severe intrusion, bad enough the car was totaled. I told him that I was very disappointed in him and Toyota and that I was only calling because they need to know these things so they can make their cars safer. I had four little children in my car that day and I always thought we were in the safest car. No more Toyotas for me.

The firemen just shook their heads in disbelief and my car's damage (~$9000). My Highlander was supposed to be back to me in 2-3 weeks, but it has been nine weeks and the car still isn't fixed due to back orders at Toyota. The nuisance of the Toyota backorders makes me very unsatisfied with Toyota.
