- the contact owns a 2005 Toyota Highlander. The contact stated that the door locks on the vehicle did not lock when the vehicle is placed into gear. The only way that the doors lock was by manually locking them or pushing the power lock button. Once the doors were locked they could not be opened by the pull of the door handle only by the power lock switch or manually. The contact was told by the dealer that it was only a programming issue and that they would program it for him, but he later found out that the vehicle did not have a door lock program feature. 1. Notice or recall received ssc 40b Highlander child protection lock system safety recall
2. Contacted 2 Toyota dealerships to schedule an appointment and the national customer service line and was advised that appointments were not available but cars were taken in the order received on a given day with prior days cars being serviced first. 3. I attempted to set an appointment at the convenience of both dealerships this week, next week, next month or even two months away when I could take my vehicle in and have the 30 minute (approximately) repair completed within a reasonable time. I was told that no such appointment could be made and that I had the choice of bringing the car in between 7:00 a. M. And 9:00 a. M. And that it would be done in a hour and a half to three or four hours. Toyota in their recall notice promises "any Toyota dealer will modify the cpl lever at no cost to you in as convenient a manner as possible. " it further states "make an appointment. ".

Erroneous "reminder" from Toyota states they previously sent an "official safety recall notification" for "safety recall campaign ssc 40b" re "child protection lock system". We have received no previous notice of this alleged recall. I have already sent a separate inquiry and complaint to Toyota motors, USA about this. We are concerned that we missed the first notice, and that Toyota can't keep it straight who they notified and who they didn't notify.

When one person exits the vehicle and locks their door the second person is stuck. All electric locks are instantly disabled. The only way to exit is to use the manual lock button which will set off the alarm 30 seconds after. The passenger inside has to manually unlock the door, and set off the alarm. The only way to prevent, is to turn the ignition on before exiting, but isn't possible for most passengers. Ts scc.
