Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Toyota Highlander. The contact stated that when they attempt to turn the vehicle either left or right the vehicle's steering would suddenly lock. The contact stated that in oder to release the steering wheel they would have to retrack the steering wheel, quickly, to the point it has locked. The contact took the vehicle to the dealership (west coast Toyota located at 3399 w. Willow st, long beach, CA 90806) who diagnosed the steering column failed. The vehicle had not been repaired. Steering column making ticking sound. Took to a mechanic and he stated knuckle joint is bad. Happens when driving. Potentially could cause steering tofail.

August 4,2018 backing on of garage and power steering complexly quit working. You can still steer but with great effort , mileage 134,521. In March 1, 2015 power steering quit working while driving on a city street at about 25mph making it very difficult to turn . It had 88644 miles. The Toyota dealer replaced the steering column part # 45250-48181 & computer part # 89650-48060. Two steering failures in 134,000 seems rather high in a system that important. . There was no prior warning and had they occurred at highway speeds on a winding rroad one could have lost control on the vehicle. 08.

Steering has popping and clicking when turning from a stopped position. The steering has always sounded like it's straining/hard to turn. Popping gets worse and more frequently. 2012 Toyota Highlander. Consumer writes in regards to intermediate steering shaft failure and horn cable failure. The consumer stated there should be a recall for these failures and to be reimbursed. The vehicle was repaired.

Failure Date: 09/30/2006

2006 Toyota Highlander hybrid had problems with brakes and steering going out at the same time*** the vehicle was involved in an accident. When the consumer slammed on the brakes there was no pulsating sensation, as expected when the abs activates. The consumer believes the brakes and steering failed at the same time. The vehicle coasted about 150 feet until it impacted another vehicle.
