Vehicle Shudder Problems of Toyota Highlander

2004 Highlander, having same problems as all other reported problems for this vehicle. Hesitation, steering shaft replacement, 2 wheel bearing replacements, lousy original tires, bad sodering of heat/air board leading to not working properly, can not have back windows down due to noise and vehicle shaking, had rear wiper motor replaced within 1st month of ownership. While I did purchase the extended warranty, which did cover the cost of the wheel bearing replacement, it did not cover the cost of having to replace the tires damaged by the bad bearing - and Toyota does not care. In their race to become the number one car maker, they have given up on being the safest, most reliable car maker - and they have certainly given up on being customer friendly. According to several Toyota dealers, they don't have to, since they continue to be popular selling vehicles. I am getting nervous as the time for my warranty comes due to expire - and for the first time am seriously considering trading it in before that happens. That was not the intent when I bought the vehicle, but after reading all the people having all the same problems, I am very concerned.

My 2005 Toyota Highlander has chronic transmission problems. When accelerating, the engine revs but the transmission hesitates noticeably before going into gear. Sometimes the hesitation lasts so long that it interferes with my ability to merge onto the freeway and those are very scary situations. Sometimes the transmission cannot decide what gear to be in and when it does engage the whole car bucks or shudders. Everyone who drives my car experiences the same problem. Even the passengers notice. The Toyota dealer claims that there is no problem with the vehicle and that the problem is my driving and that I have not adjusted to the car's "drive by wire" system. One mechanic did admit that there were issues with the transmission's computer for this model year. Other than that, Toyota insists that there is no problem and that I have to learn how to drive the car.

Replaced the tires . So, I replaced tires and found same vibration as before and curt baungart stated the was the characteristic of this vehicle, however the vehicle still vibrated in the front axle assemble and is getting worst with miles added. Toyota has a problem with this vehicle and refuses to honor their warranty. I filed two arbitration hearing on this vehicle and have filed the complaint with lisa madigan's office of the atty. Gen. They told me and I quote from their letter" because this file appears to fall within your jurisdiction, we are referring it to your agency for your information and possible action. By copy of this letter, we are informing the complainant of this referral" end of quote. Letter dated August 22, 2006.
