4 Service Brakes problem of the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser

Failure Date: 05/30/2025

The brakes when in reverse squeal the loudest I have ever heard in a car (even those that I have had over 150k miles. The car, with only 4272 miles on it, is now doing this pretty much each time I go in reverse. Today, 5/30/2025 the dealership was able to reproduce the problem. However, they say that Toyota has not made a remedy available. This is disturbing considering it is the brakes and the noise is loud. To me, squealing brakes indicate brakes that could fail - that is a safety concern.

Brakes are squealing when in reverse. After the vehicle has not been driven for a day or even parked for more than an hour. Placing the vehicle in reverse, when backing out of the carport and turning the steering wheel to the left, there is a bad brake squeal. Had the same issue on my 2024 Toyota tundra. That was fixed under t-sb-0043-24. The 2022-2024 Lexus gx550 has the same issue and has had a service bulletin issued l-sb-0036-24. The gx550 and Toyota landcruiser use the same brakes. 10 Service Brakes problem of the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser

Failure Date: 02/01/2025

2025 Land Cruiser bought 7 months ago constant rattling and tapping noise near passenger rear near pillar b and c. Brought to the dealer for corrective action to identify, address and to resolve the problem due to annoying ticking, rattling and tapping noise while travelling on a rough road. According to a service adviser their mechanics from dealer dismantled panels and head liners to pinpoint noise and find out that, the noises is located near pillar c and pillar b. As recommendation by the service adviser the Land Cruiser needed to be bring to a car body shop to reweld parts from both pilar b and c that was creating the rattling noise. I believe the 2025 Land Cruiser have a manufacturer welding defects that creating the rattling and tapping noise which is needed to be thoroughly investigated. Pillars a, b, c, and d on cars which have welding defects can compromise the safety of the vehicles and its occupants. 1. It weakens the structure and reduce crashworthiness. 2. Failure of welded components will reduce strength and load bearing. 3. Risk of cabin collapse. 4. It impact on safety features this areas is where airbags and safety belts been supported. 5. Welded defects will increase risk of accidents and injury.

11 Service Brakes problem of the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser

Failure Date: 01/25/2025

Brakes are squealing when in reverse. This was a known issue with 2022-2024 Toyota tundra's. The service bulletin was number t-sb-0043-24 to change out front rotors and brake pads and mounting hardware. After that no more squeal. It was coming from the front end when backing up. The same issue is occurring on the 2024-2025 Toyota Land Cruiser's. I have attached 2 videos showing the squeal. After the vehicle has not been driven for a day or two, on a cold start and placing the vehicle in reverse, when backing out of the driveway and turning the steering wheel to the left, there is a bad brake squeal. The vehicle was purchased new with 13 miles on it and currently has 325 miles on it and the problem started when vehicle was purchased. I have the incidents on video and can provide if needed for proof.

12 Service Brakes problem of the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser

Failure Date: 01/03/2025

At startup in garage in subfreezing condition. I put vehicle in reverse and brakes did not engage at normal pedal pressure. I had to push the brakes with extreme force to slow down the backwards movement. I did not think I would be able to stop the car. I had driven the vehicle the night before in wintery conditions and parked in my detached unheated garage. I feel like there may have been ice build up on the brake pads/rotors. Has not happened again but I have not had the exact same conditions. Will note the engine was revving at a little higher rpm because it was very cold out and was at start-up (normal behavior) but created a bit more force in reverse. There would have been a collision if something were behind me, it took that long to stop.

13 Service Brakes problem of the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser

Failure Date: 11/24/2024

Loud squealing brakes when in reverse. Dealer confirmed the sound, performed an independent test drive to replicate the sound, but returned the vehicle with no solution. A few days into driving the vehicle and the sound is louder, but the dealership claims Toyota doesn't have a service bulletin despite widespread reports of the problem.

The automatic emergency braking is activated when no objects are in front of the car potentially resulting in being rear ended. The feature is so oversensitive that it is safer to deactivate it. Car taken to a local dealership and the concern was replicated with a dealership technician. The dealership refused to evaluate the safety concern any further as the car is being inspected by a Toyota regional technician. Additionally, the brakes squeak when in reverse but the concern has not been addressed by multiple dealerships or Toyota headquarters.

16 Service Brakes problem of the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser

Failure Date: 11/04/2024

2024 Land Cruiser, purchased in July, 2024 has had 4 random hard downshifts when coming to a stop and then lunges forward as when a driver downshifts harshly in a manual car (keeping in mind that the Land Cruiser is an automatic and the driver is not intentionally down shifting). On the 4th occurance, I nearly rear ended a car. Fist occurance at approximately 250 miles and last occurance at approximately 1,200 miles. The car was taken to a local dealership on 11/04/24 but the dealership refused to further evaluate as Toyota headquarters informed them that the vehicle is sheduled to be evaluted by a Toyota regional technician. On 11/12/24, the Toyota regional technician did not replicate the safety concern per the dealership and it was advised to go pick up the car. As of 11/18, the car remains in the local dealership due to my safety concerns. Toyota headquarters has not advised me or dealership on the next steps. No warning lights on the dash are present and Toyota does not consider this a safety issue as it has not been replicated. Concern of the car automatically braking without objects in front has been brought up to Toyota as well.

28 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Toyota Land Cruiser

Failure Date: 07/08/2016

Parking brake is frozen. My private mechanic explained this model year uses a white metal that corrodes very easily. I was not able to engage the parking break while parked on a hill on a city street. I've attached a picture of the parts that show the corrosion. I believe that Toyota should recall these vehicles and replace this part for safety reasons, and reimburse customers who had the part replaced. (300+ dollars).

29 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 Toyota Land Cruiser

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

Vehicle may creep while brakes are applied when stopped. Normal braking pressure is applied to stop vehicle. Vehicle stops ok. After a few second, the vehicle may begin to creep forward as if the hydraulic brake booster is no longer applying the correct pressure to hold the vehicle, requiring additional light pressure to stop the vehicle. Problem is more noticeable if an accessory such as the a/c compressor turns on and causes the engine idle speed to increase very slightly. Until yesterday my biggest concern was bumping a vehicle in front of me at a stoplight. On 7/1 while sitting in the pick up line at camp, the creeping caused me to nearly bump a child who was standing next to the vehicle. . Read more...

Failure Date: 04/26/2013

I live in utah, the incident occurred in san francisco with children in car. Going down one of the steeper roads towards fisherman wharf. The abs alarm went off and I lost all breaking power. I immediately downshifted(automatic trans), used the emergency break almost killed some pedestrians. . Pulled over. I checked all fuses, breaks. Etc. I did not have any money, so as nightfall came upon us, with abs glaring in our ears. I drove through the night back to utah when the traffic was the lowest and used the emergency break all the way home, it was a horrific experience. The repair on this was not cheep where I had the abs/brakes fixed so the breaks would work at our local dealer where I live, this was about 8-10 years ago, I am still pretty upset someone cold have been killed, why would the breaks fail if the abs fails. . This could have killed my family and/or someone else. I would have to check with menlove bountiful Toyota for an exact date of repair.

34 Service Brakes problem of the 2001 Toyota Land Cruiser

Failure Date: 08/14/2010

On 8/14/10 at approximately 6 pm, I was traveling with my family southbound on interstate 5-freeway in north los angeles county (city of valencia) when an audible dash alarm and several dash panel lights lit up on my dash panel. Shortly after this occurred, I lost all power assist in my braking system and was forced to use both extreme foot pressure on the brake pedal and the hand brake to bring my car to a stop. I would classify this as a catastrophic failure of the braking system. The car was towed to a Toyota dealership, where the problem was diagnosed as a failure of the abs actuator system. Cost to repair exceeded $2700. Toyota customer care was notified - an attempt to obtain good-will repair based on the circumstances of the problem was denied by Toyota. Toyota has not offered any response to me regarding the system failure and the extreme danger that my family and myself were exposed to. Based on internet research, this same problem has been reported by other Toyota landcruiser owners, and Toyota has been notified in each case and chosen to do nothing to investigate the reported failure. This type of catastrophic failure of a braking system has the potential to cause fatal accidents and should be investigated by Toyota and the NHTSA. The lack of any type of fail-safe system that would provide braking back-up represents a serious design flaw in this model landcruiser. Toyota needs to develop a fix for this problem and a recall notice should be sent out to owners for all landcruiser models for which this design flaw exists.
