1 Wiring problem of the 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser

Failure Date: 03/06/2017

Purchased vehicle in early 2016. May/June 2016 noticed hole in panel adjacent to windshield and dash on passenger side. Car parked in driveway. Nest located by Toyota dealer in the air filter cabin. Approximately 700$ repair. March 2017. Car parked overnight. In the morning noticed chewed up pieces of foam and rubber and large rat feces all over vehicle interior. Middle row seat chewed. Popped the engine hood. Very sizable nest located in engine. Vehicle currently in for repair estimated at 1000$ plus deductible and rental car fees as well. Contacted dealer and Toyota customer service. Basically told that Toyota uses soy based products in an effort to be environmentally friendly and they cannot do anything to fix the issue but can only take down my record of complaint. I emphasized that I have 2/3 other vehicles that have been parked in the same location and have never been targeted by rodents but this vehicle has attracted rodents twice in 9 months and that it is a huge safety hazard since they are chewing into wiring in my engine because they are obviously attracted to the manufacturing components. I also inquired what I as the consumer could do to deter the issue. They could give no advice of course. And Toyota is aware but continues to compromise their customer's safety in an effort to be environmentally friendly.

2 Wiring problem of the 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser

Failure Date: 12/17/2014

Side mirrors both right and left occasionally flick in and out as if door adjustment activators are turning on and off. Mirrors flicker making rear auto lights flick in your face constantly when driving the vehicle at night. This was an occasional occurrence since vehicle was new, but not reproducible on visits to several dealers. Now it is a constant flicker when car is being driven. The dealer has just reported the entire assemblies must be replaced on both doors as a cost of 2,000. 00 dollars. Makes this car totally unsafe to drive particularly in highway driving where changing lanes is required at night. I truly believe this is a defect that needs to be investigated concerning Toyota motor USA, as in my experience this is safety equipment issue that is dangerous. This is a vehicle that has not had excessive wear, nor been in any vehicle accidents. This may very well have been a causation to traffic highway accidents in this vehicle type during highway night driving, and warrants your investigation for this model or others similarly equipped. Thank you for your review of this matter. I have had your assistance in the past with a BMW 2002 3 series with failed rear tail light wiring. As a result, I know that this will not be ignored, and am hopeful that your investigation will save lives or prevent injury. We will not drive this vehicle at night, and the cost for safty equipment repair is definitely something the average middle class american can not afford, and should not ignore for their families safety.

3 Wiring problem of the 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser

Failure Date: 08/21/2006

: the contact stated while traveling 40 mph, there was black smoke coming from the driver side door panel. The smoke got darker and the contact pulled over. An orange glow was noticed between the controls and a bottle of water was poured in the door to extinguish the fire. The vehicle was taken to the dealership who determined there was a short in the wiring system that caused the fire. The wires were repaired. The master control switch was replaced. Updated 09/20/06.

4 Wiring problem of the 2002 Toyota Land Cruiser

Failure Date: 12/10/2004

Driving on highway in early December 2004, 60 mph and car went completely out of control as if a front tire had blown. This happened again 3 days later, under the same conditions. Thoughts were that the automatic traction control system was kicking on (for not apparent reason) due to a wiring/computer malfunction. This malfunction has occured at least 15-20 times with us on the highway - we have the car parked, except to take it back and forth to the dealership, who cannot seem to duplicate the problem. Dealership had it 4 days the first time and 2-3 weeks the second and third times. Took it to local mechanic who duplicated problem within the first 15 miles of driving the vehicle (which is a 2002 Toyota landcruiser). Nothing has been done by the dealership, as they claim they can't "duplicate customer's request". Manufacturer took claim but has done nothing. Local mechanic noted on his work order that this problem may not be fixable and that vehicle is very dangerous and is going to kill someone under the right conditions. He also "diagnosed" problem, as in fact, being a malfunction in the automatic traction control system" and the left front wheel is having the breaks applied (at high speeds, for no reason) and system comes on momentarily, sounding alarm and car swerves out of control.
