A 205/55/r16 tire exploded when I was driving on the freeway at 9:15 am. I had driven less than 3 miles. The tire that exploded had less than 16,000 miles. I didn't run over an object or I would have also punctured my front tire too. At the time of the explosion I didn't know what happened, but heard a loud noise that I thought was from a car next to me. Once both cars moved ahead of me, I realized the loud noise was coming from under my car. I then was able to pull to the side of the freeway. Once I pulled over I saw the tire had exploded. I took photos of the tire and took both parts to the tire shop where my tires are under warranty. I had inspected my tires the prior Monday, two days prior and didn't see an issue with any of the tires. I've never had a tire blowout before. The tire shop threw the tire away even though I asked for a report of the incident to appropriate entities. The tire shop told me the tire was under inflated or that I hit a road hazard but couldn't prove that's what caused the explosion. Also the tire shop did not show me where a road hazard penetrated the tire. In the past if a tire had run over an object this tire shop would show me the object. I have 3 of the same tires on my car which I don't trust because my tire exploded without warning.

Dangerous, poor traction on wet pavement sumitomo tour plus LS-h when on a steep road in san francisco, my tires skidded rather than grab the road on a rainy day in the winter of 2016. This also happened during the winter of 2017. It is dangerous. I need to change the tires before selling my car to another person.

One of 4 (four) hankook tires on my vehicle, which were purchased new about 1 1/2 years ago, seems to have a defect on it that prevents water and shush from channeling properly from the inner groove to the side of the tire. Only one of the tires seem to have this defect, and seems to be a manufacturing defect, as it seems to have been molded without a channel or a very shallow channel compared to the other 3. The alignment of the wheel does not seem to play a major role in this alleged defect. The lack of the proper channeling on this tire may have caused an accident during wet or slushy weather, as channeling of the fluid is an important function of good handling characteristics during inclement weather. It defect seems to have been due to a large quality problem, as this tire made it's way through hancook's distribution system and onto a personal vehicle. The tire in question is a hancook ventus v4 ES . I will be demanding that this tire be replaced by the manufacture as soon as possible as it seems to be a significant safety concern in my opinion, myself being a degreed mechanical engineer.
Purchased bridgestone turanza serenity plus tires this week. I noticed that one of the tires doesn't have the utqg ratings on the side. I don't know if this is a issue from a legal standpoint since I have no idea what any ratings for the tire are. I was informed by bridgestone that this is legal during the first production runs. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you colin campbell.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota corolla Matrix. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, a knocking sound emitted from the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis. The technician diagnosed that the brake pads and tires needed to be replaced. The failure recurred multiple times. The dealer failed to further service the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure was 59,632.
I have a 2009 Toyota Matrix that has multiple issues including a steering issue that almost caused my family their life, now I am being told I need new brakes at 19,800 miles. The rear brakes are not adjusting at all which may be causing the steering issues. Car is having interment issues going into 1st and reverse, reported multiple times, Toyota says they cannot duplicate. Car is still under warranty. Also, one tire is wearing on one side which is a known issue. The steering issues has been reported along with the one tire wearing issue by over 500 people but Toyota will not recognize it. I am scared to take my car on the interstate due to the steering issue and this is a new car with low miles. My family is at risk of break failure, or worse due to the defects. When I called Toyota,m they said if I ride my breaks a lot, that could be the cause. I do no such thing. This car is only driven to work and back everyday and has been serviced on a regular basis only by Toyota dealer in rivergate. I have also reported defects in the gas gauge. When I fill the car up, it registers on empty for at least 2 hours before moving to f. It does not happen every time and since Toyota cannot see it, they said they cannot fix it.

I own a 2005 Toyota Matrix that was bought new. It now has 120,000 miles on it. I am in the process of searching for my fourth set of tires for it. Twice, I had the stock continental brand and both times they had to be replaced, at my expense, at approximately 30,000 miles; sometimes less. An internet search reveals hundreds of similar complaints regarding tires for this model.
The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Matrix. The vehicle had goodyear viva tires, size p215/70/r15. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for routine maintenance which consisted of an oil change. The mechanic detected that the four tires on the vehicle were defective and required replacement at the owner expense. The three tires exploded within a period of one year after the inspection. The mechanic stated the tires should be covered under the manufacturer warranty. The independent mechanic replaced the two tires at half the cost, and the third tire was charged at regular cost due to the air pressure level in the tire. The failure mileage was 79,000. The current mileage was 82,000. The VIN was unavailable. Updated 7/16/10 all three tires had the exact same damage. Updated 07/22/jb.
Vehicle tire wear on Matrix xrs (2005). No matter what brand of tires, even with regular rotation and balancing/alignments, the tires wear from the inside out with severe cupping. I've had to replace my tires every 20k miles (I now have 130k miles on the car in just 4 years, I need tires to last!). Each of the mechanics I've spoken to say there is nothing they can do and just to keep rotating them and that it is a problem in assembly at the factory level. I am fed up and will not be buying another Toyota.
Abnormal tire wear on 2006 Toyota Matrix. Less than 45,000 miles on the car and we have gone through two sets of long life tires. We have maintained the vehicle and tires properly. This seems to be a very common problem but Toyota says there is nothing wrong. . Read more...

Purchased certified pre owned - (leased) 2006 Matrix 27940 miles 7/26/08 - on 11/12/08 32955 miles after oil change dealer wrote : "tires are wearing funny - aligned at n/c did not rotate rht rear cupping - 3/25/09 oil change 38632 - dealer wrote - rotate tires if needed - last time in had tire wear issue needs tires has 1 good tire on car on lf. Apparently this is a problem with Toyota - haven't contacted dealer yet but will after reading complaints. I don't know if the after market shim fix will void my extended warranty or not. . . . . .
My tires worn unevenly and cupped after 25000 miles on my brand new 06 Toyota Matrix. My dealership told me it was because of rotation. But when I checked online, I saw that many people have the same problems with the same car. I had to change my tires and do an alignment. Toyota has to recall, fix and reimburse those tires.
Had a flat tire, when they took my tire off, they asked if my vehicle had been in an accident, which it has not, the tire was cupping really bad. They also said they were very worn for the amount of miles on my vehicle.
Excessive tire wear has forced us to buy multiple new tires on our 2005 Toyota Matrix.
Premature excessive tire wear on rear of 2007 Toyota Matrix at 40,000 miles. Advised by local ntb tire store that rear tire/wheel alignment is out of specs while front alignment was perfect.
I have to replace tires due to them wearing on the outside that the tire companies say is not a consequence of the tires but rather my car.
2008 Toyota Matrix has premature tire wear in tires after only 15,000 miles. Toyota says this is normal and that I have to pay to replace the tires. The tires are not defective, it is the alignment in the car.
First and only owner. Excessive tire wear on all 4 tires at only 20,000 miles. All tires have excessive wear at the inside rim. I didn't have any accident and my driving was never aggressive. The tires have to replaced at 20,000 miles. The concerns are the new tires will be gone in about another 20,000 miles. Toyota should correct this problem with the car.
I have owned 2 Toyota Matrix cars, 2005 & 2006. Both vehs gave me tire trouble. Pre-mature tire wear on the edges in the form of scalloping and flat spots. New tires and wheel alignment by the car & tire dealer did nothing to improve the situation, even after repeated attention to the problem. Road noise is almost unbearable at times depending on speed. Toyota rejects any responsibility to the situation and prefer to blame the driver, the type of driving, road surface, tire pressures, tire rotation frequency and tire manufacturer. I won't be buying another Matrix!! or for that matter, Toyota!.
Severe cupping wear mainly on front tires on the inside edges.
My Toyota Matrix (2005) has a terrible alignment problem, that causes premature wear on the tires.
Excessive tire wear/misalignment on 2006 Toyota Matrix: I have had my car for about 2 and 1/2 years, about 35,000 miles. I have already replaced the tires three times due to excessive wear, and had several four-wheel alignments done. I've noticed on the chat boards that several other owners with the same car type are having similar problems. I suspect that the misalignment and subsequent drift was one of the leading causes in an accident I had last year.
I own a 2006 Toyota Matrix my tires are wearing improper. The tires are cupping, at 3,000 to 5,000 miles. After researching I found that every Matrix, pontiac vib and corolla owner is having the same problem and it is a manufacturer defect. All owners are having this problem. A solution for this problem has been found but the Toyota does not want to correct the problem.
I own a 2006 Toyota Matrix xr. During routine maintenance at the dealer the car had about 7500 miles. I was told that there was unusual tire wear, cupping, on the tires and they should probably be replaced at my next maintenance. These tires were rated for approximately 30,000 miles. The manager at the Toyota repair shop said this was something he had noticed with Matrix tires. Because I had done all of the correct maintenance checks including tire rotation the repair shop said it was nothing that I had done. At the next scheduled maintenance I had the tires replaced with a different brand of tires (just in case it was a tire problem). Toyota agreed to pay for 1/2 of the tire cost because many Matrix owners were having the same problem. I was responsible for the cost of installation and balancing but when I complained about these fees was given a discount. It was suggested that I file a report with Toyota about the problem with the tires. When I called to report it they said they had nothing on file about problems with the Matrix and unusual tire wear. They stated it was probably a problem with the actual tires and that I should contact the tire dealer. I filed a complaint with Toyota stating what was told to me by the maintenance shop but was told that the repair shops are independent and have nothing to do with Toyota. After approximately 6,000 miles on my new tires, uneven wear is apparent and there is a loud noise created by the tires when I reach speeds of about 35 mph or above.
Faulty cambering of wheels on Toyota Matrix 2006 (xrs fwd). It causes uneven and premature wear of tires. At 12000 miles tires became noisy with almost no thread on the edges.
2006 Toyota Matrix, currently has 21000 miles on it. All 4 tires are bald on the inside tread, outside still has 75% left. I rotate these tires every 4000 miles and the alignment is within specs. The noise started at about 17,000 miles & keeps getting louder. Now I am faced to buy new tires on a car that is not that old.
Severe tire cupping at 24,000 miles on Toyota Matrix 2006 xr awd. All 4 tires needed replacing - tire inflation light was on and would not reset. Noticed problem at about 15,000 miles. *updated 12/12/07 the consumer stated brought in information about other customer's with the same defect. Updated 12/12/07.
I own a 2006 Toyota awd Matrix with 25,000 miles. I brought the car in for service and asked them to check a vibration I felt when driving the car. They told me the tires (all 4) are cupping and need to be replaced. The tires had been rotated twice ( at 8,000 and 21,000 miles). I searched the internet to see if anyone else had problems and found the problem with cupping and premature tire wear was common. The postings refer to a manufacture problem. Ironically Toyota discontinued awd in 2007 and owners of the newer models reported no tire wear problems.
The tires on my 2006 Toyota Matrix are cupping. I had to replace them at 13,000 miles. I have since found out that this is a common problem on Matrixs no matter what type of tire are on the car.
Toyota Matrix 2005. Notice that auto noisy on the road. Other complain about it as I am used to it. At last oil change service staff say I need new tires and alignment as wearing. I am puzzled and check internet and come on sights that describe the same issues I am experiencing. I am very concerned - a friend was in a fatal auto accident 12 or so years ago that involved a small pick up truck and later find tire problems involved for other owners also. Vehicle rolled over!.
2006 Toyota Matrix with alloy wheels and continental tires : at 5,000 mi rotation the steering wheel would move back and forth a bit, shimmy. At 10,000 mi rotation shimmy was worse and noise was noticed. At 14,000 mi dealer service said that noise was due to severe cupping and all tires needed replaced but that continental had no warranty (even though car came with a continental warranty paper). Replaced tires with yokohama at dealer.
With only 24,707 miles on my 2006 Toyota Matrix, I was told that all four tires needed to be replaced. I have found many such complaints about these vehicles after doing an internet search. The problem was described as excessive cupping or wear to the inside of the tires. The sixteen inch continental tires standard on these have a tread life of 50,000 miles, but the customer service representative told me they have a tread life of about 25,000 miles. I have the records to prove that I brought the auto in every 5,000 miles for a scheduled maintenance. Each one called for a tire rotation. I am so angry that the dealership didn't mention this problem or make corrections to the alignment or balance of the tires, that I refuse to go back to them. In my opinion, this constitutes negligent behavior on the part of the dealership and a serious design flaw on the part of the manufacturer that should be corrected for all Toyota Matrix.
The tires on Toyota Matrix's are wearing out after 15000 miles. This is on all Toyota Matrix cars and Toyota is denying any problems. . Read more...
After owning my new car for about a year (around 25,000 miles), I was informed that my tires were cupping and all needed replaced. This issue was blamed on alignment issues. I had the alignment fixed and tires replaced. I had read discussion boards of other Matrix owners, many of whom had similar tire/alignment complaints. A worker at the car dealership suggested this has been a common issue with the Matrix. I complained to Toyota, who blamed both my driving and driving conditions (I don't drive recklessly--typically all my driving is highway), as well as the tire manufacturer (but my warranty had already run-out). I've been getting my tires rotated on a regular basis, but about a year after the aforementioned repairs (may 2008), the tech rotating my tires noted one of my tires was cupping and to have my rear alignment checked. Again, my alignment was off and the car had to be re-aligned. Now, two months later, I am again having possible alignment issues (will be checked this week). I think the Toyota Matrix has a serious design flaw considering so many people have been having alignment/tire issues with their cars.
