Jan. 2007 anchorage, ak driving 50mph on a highway, as the road bended to the right, we went into the turn and began to slide sideways. It was 30 degrees f, so we must have hit black ice. I tried to correct and sent the car fish tailing to the other side. We whipped back and forth a few times, before the car started to spin. We did two full circles before we gently hit a burm of snow and came to a stop. No other cars were oncoming so we did not have any significant damage and there were no injuries. I went and bought studded tired the next day. Dec. 2009 juneau, ak I was a passenger. Same make, model, and year. Driving 40 mph on straight road, slushy snow conditions. The car started to fish tail and spun 1. 5 times before it stopped. No significant damage or injuries. No studded tires. (all-weather tires) Feb. 2012 juneau, ak I was a passenger in the same car as above. Driving 55mph on highway, going straight. We must have hit black ice and the car started to fish tail. We spun two times and the car did not slow down like in previous incidents and we hit a guardrail going full speed (hit it backwards). I got whiplash, face lacerations, broken nose, and a mild traumatic brain injury. No airbags deployed. We were able to drive away from the crash and take me to the hospital. Driver was unharmed. (all-weather tires).

Bought new Toyota Matrix 2 wheel drive in 2006. All four tires are worn excessively on the inside part of tire. Dealership says I drove the car therefore not their problem. Toyota says tires not their problem. Neither organization seems to think the car may have a manufacturing defect. After searching the internet I have found others reporting same troubles. I know am faced with buying 4 new tires having to get an alignment. And still not convinced the problem will go away. The problem may have been their when I bought the car. Both dealership and Toyota want to blame me and the tire company.
Purchased affinity lh 30 tires for 2003 Toyota Matrix. Tires wearing even but all are starting to develop cracks near edge of tread. Tires only have 25000 miles on them and tread depth average is 8/32.

: the contact stated while driving at various speeds, under normal driving conditions the vehicle veered from left to right and this condition became worse while stopping. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. Upon inspection it was determined the tires were the cause of the steering problems. The dealer determined the tires that were purchased with the vehicle were the wrong type of tires, which caused the front end to become out of alignment. The vehicle has been regularly maintained with tire rotation every 3,000 miles. There has been no replacement of the tires. The tire line is continental p20555r16. Updated 3/20/2006 - the consumer was unable to avoid hitting a deer because of the faulty tire. The hood of the vehicle was damaged. On 2/11/2006 the consumer replaced all four tires which resolved the problem with the front end .

I'm very happy with my Matrix except for one thing. The hub caps are so lose. I'm constantly pushing them back on tighter. I haven't had the car more than a few months and 3 hubcaps have already fallen off, withins days of me making sure they were tight enough. When they fly off my car, all the pieces that hold them onto the rim are broken off and they are useless. I have lost 3 hubcaps in the last 3 weeks!.
One year and one month after buying the car new, all four tires were dangerously bald. Had to stop at the nearest tire store where I was told if I had run over a dime I probably would have had a blow out. These defective tires were the original tires on the car. I don't have a record of the tires and was given no warranty from the dealership at the time of the purchase. This experience cost me $ 434. Mileage on that day was 15,297 miles.
Purchased a 2003 Matrix rs with option pk that included 17" wheels, abs, all weather guard package, and sports trim. First snow I found out the package with a includes summer only tires. My mistake for not checking the tires, but the abs brakes and all weather guard package lead me to believe the car was ready for winter. It is very dangerous to drive with current tires.
The original equipment tires had no traction and caused the vehicle to slide in the snow. Consumer requested the dealership reimburse for purchase of snow tires.
While driving down highway vehicle started pulling to the right, owner then pulled over, and tire was completely flat. When taken to dealership, they could not find what the problem was, tire was sent to the manufacturer, who offered to pay partial amount.
Potential failure - execessive tire wear. I had the Toyota Matrix tires rotated at the dealership at 5,000 miles was never told that I had, what should have been very noticable wear to the service department. I had the tires rotated again at 21,000 , and the mechanic said the tires had very execisive wear from a the front end being out of alinement. I am the only driver and a careful driver. I believe this car was out of alinement from the day I bought it, and the dealership should have alerted me of my 5,000 check up.
