27 problems related to brake light on have been reported for the 2007 Toyota Prius. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Dash went out no visual, twice, 1st time I unhooked front cable to battery, it come back on, 2nd time, I started car, consol went out again, had to take it to Toyota place, to order new consol, brake light on, asb light on, after replacing both front & back brake shoes, enjector pump went out.
I own a Toyota Prius 2007 and I experiencing brakes not engaging as they should when applied. I notice my abs vsc brake lights are on my dashboard. I took it in to a shop and was told I have a bad abs actuator. I researched it on the recall list and it was listed but expired in Dec 2017. Toyota should fix this problem. This was a known problem.
Started getting brake actuator failure noises in my 2007 Prius back in March 2020 and took it to the west coast Toyota dealership in long beach, CA. They didn't find anything wrong with the abs system even though the grinding noise I now know is commonly associated with the problem was going off. The other day the abs light warning came on as well as the emergency brake light. I pulled over on washington blvd and arlington in los angeles and when I started the car again and started to move forward I had no control of the brakes and turned the car off immediately. From what I've read this is extremely common! Toyota extended the warranty's on many of their vehicles to 10 years but there were no recalls so if this part malfunctions a day after the warranty then you are out of luck. The brake system is just about the most dangerous part to fail. I can't imagine what would have happened if the same thing happened at a higher speed.
While driving around a corner on city streets, braking suddenly became very difficult, and caused the vehicle to skid when brakes were applied. A high-pitched electronic squeal came from the dashboard, and the brake system light, abs light, vsc light, and master warning light all turned on. These are all listed as symptoms of a failed brake actuator. After contacting a licensed Toyota dealership, I was directed to the Toyota customer care department. After being escalated to a supervisor, I was informed that Toyota is aware of this problem, but that the warranty extension they used to cover it expired in 2017, and they refused to cover the cost of replacement (~$3000). I believe this issue should be cause for a safety recall, as it happened suddenly and without warning while the vehicle was in motion. It was pure luck that this didn't result in a crash.
I was driving my car on the highway and suddenly my brake warning light, abs warning light, and other lights came on as well as a constant beeping noise. The brakes almost stopped working completely; it only worked about 10%. My foot was all the way down on the brake pedal, but the car was still moving. I was able to pull over, but this issue left me in a compromising position for my safety and could easily have been involved in a serious accident from it. The warning lights go away after turning off the car, but then they come back on randomly. Based on what I've read online on similar issues, I believe this is an issue with the brake actuator.
Brake actuator making noise along with 3 different brake lights on. Toyota previously had a recall on this exact issue which has since ended. Many cars are still at risk.
Takata recall 1. Driving on surface street at approx. 45 mph attempting to slow down for an intersection all the brake warning lights came on, while I was applying the brakes they had failed, eventually the vehicle came to a stop. After that incident the brakes are working normal. Apparently there was a recall to address the issue and it is no longer valid, I was never notified of the recall and the dealership that I purchased the vehicle from (used) never notified me of any recalls. I am a Toyota owner with a defected vehicle (a known defect by the manufacture). What are my options? 2. The headlamps (left) intermittently goes out, I have replaced the lamp, checked the fuses and it still happens, others have described loosing both lamps. Both issues above are safety issues that can contribute to serious injury incidents. These safety issue needs to be addressed by Toyota.
My brake actuator is going bad, I have e-brake light on always, as well as vsc, abs, and ((!)) lights on the dash. This happened when the vehicle was in motion and not the lights do not go off and the brake actuator is constantly making noise and running.
The brake actuator went out October of 2018. I took this car to be quoted for a part and the part and labor are $2500. This car is unsafe to operate without stopping power. This is not a rare problem for the Toyota Prius in 2007. I know that many other people complain about receiving the $2500 or higher bill of repair. Toyota should extend the warranty for this expensive repair. A battery repair is expected to happen, but this repair is almost as much as a battery and makes the Prius not worth buying. The vehicle abs, red triangle master light, vsc, and brake light all turned on at once after a drive of 60mph on the highway. After skidding to a stop, I could caused an accident because of this system failure. This is an expensive and dangerous problem that needs to be addressed.
The warning lights is showing up on my dashboard abs, vsc, brake light and a circle is coming up on my dashboard.
My car had not exhibited previous problems with breaking. Upon leaving school, the abs, vsc, and emergency brake light came on accompanied by a long, loud, and continuous beep. I puled over into a parking light and it all stopped. I was close to home and decided to continue to drive as the car seemed to be fine now. Upon approaching a stop light, my car put itself in neutral and compressed the brake all the way to the floor. I was unable to stop the vehicle, and had to run it into a curb in order to avoid hitting the stopped vehicle in front of me. I had it towed to a Toyota dealership and was told the abs actuator was failing. Upon calling Toyota customer care, I was notified of an enhanced warranty that existed through 12/31/17. However, I never received an notice of this warranty nor had my vehicle had any problems prior to 12/31/17 that would suggest to me that the car's abs needed serviced. I am unable to safely drive my vehicle and despite Toyota's negligence in communicating the defect in their product to me, they refuse to correct the situation.
Driving car on the freeway in the far left lane. E-brake light turned on with the loud alarm sound as if I had activated my e-brake. I lost significant breaking power and was very lucky nobody stopped fast in front of me while it happened. I had no idea what the problem was, but it was very scary on the freeway not being able to break properly. I learned it was the abs actuator that had failed, was told my warranty had expired but I had no idea there even was a recall. If they knew this was an issue why was it not fixed when I had my car serviced? pt#04003-44647.
My brake actuator is going bad, I have e-brake light on always, as well as vsc, abs, and ((!)) lights on the dash. This happened when the vehicle was in motion and not the lights do not go off and the brake actuator is constantly making noise and running. I took this vehicle for an inspection at the Toyota dealer and they never mentioned anything about a recall for this vehicle, so as it turns out the part is failing and the brakes might not work at any given point. Toyota wants $2,000+ to fix this issue when it shouldn't be an issue in the first place!.
Abs actuator broke while making a low speed turn (about 10mph). The car made an alarm sound, all the brake lights went on, and most importantly the car became sluggish and difficult to maneuver. Restarting the car made it drivable again, but I no longer have abs brakes, only standard. This part is apparently worth more than the car to replace, yet it is critically important safety equipment.
My car has been making the "snoring" sounds increasingly often for the last few weeks but no warning lights illuminated until I was driving on the highway going about 65 mph during the beginning of February 2018. It was extremely unnerving to have the brake light, abs light, tire pressure light, and vsc (vehicle stability control) light illuminate while driving at highway speeds not knowing if the brakes were going to work. The dealership diagnosed brake actuator failure and advised the warranty expired at the end of December 2017, 5 weeks prior. I purchased the car from a Toyota dealership in may 2016 when the warranty was extended and was not made aware of the this possible malfunction and also had warranty filled by that same dealership when my dashboard lights went dark in August 2015 when again, was not advised of this ongoing warranty issue. My main complaint is that the 2004 received 13 years of coverage under this warranty when Toyota obviously was unable to address the issue by the the time my car was manufactured, however, my repair is not covered at all after only 10 years. My mileage was extremely low at just under 86k so it's malfunction is not from overuse but from from a defective part.
My brake, abs, vsc, and brake warning light (!) all turned on at the same time on January 6th while I was driving the vehicle at a speed of 45 mph. I only just purchased my vehicle on December 30th, 2017 at 133k miles. It was revealed that my car had the 1256 and 1391 warning codes, indicating that my brake accumulator has a leak. I came to find out that this problem is very pervasive for people with 2nd generation Toyota Priuses and that there was a misassembly of the brake actuators in the factory that causes people's brakes to delay or fail completely. Toyota put out a TSB to address the issue that ended on December 31st 2017. However, seeing as how Toyota knowingly had a misassembly of their own product and that the brakes failing poses a huge safety issue, this should have never been a TSB in the first place. The lack of regard for consumer's lives by Toyota to fix the problem that they created, without ultimatums, has led me to file this complaint that this product be recalled and replaced. This problem poses a safety risk to myself and all passengers that enter the car with me as well as other drivers around me. I cannot afford to pay the over $2000 repair and I don't see why consumers have to pay for the mistakes that Toyota has knowingly made.
During brake rattling sound heard. Abs brake light yellow on the dashboard.
While I was driving, the car suddenly made a very loud sound, that did not go away. Along with that, the lights on the dash lit up, the brake light, the red hazard exclamation triangle light, the abs and vsc light. It felt the brakes were not working and I would need to press it down hard for it to slow down. This has happened three times! and each time I took it in to Toyota, their diagnostic tests showed nothing. They think it could be the battery but they did not suggest changing it. The three episodes that happened, luckily no injuries or crashes. But it is very concerning as I feel this will happen again and they have not figured out what the problem is.
12/17/2013 vehicle experienced complete brake failure on the freeway. Brake lights and alarms went on. Brake pedals were non responsive and went to the floor when pressed. Managed to pull over to side of freeway and have vehicle towed to dealership. At dealership was told that the brake computer or brake actuator had failed. Dealership replaced brake actuator. Mileage on vehicle at the time was 128,451. Brake actuator failed again. This time vehicle failed to stop while driving on residential street. Brake warning light and alarm went on briefly. Drove vehicle to dealership. Dealership diagnosed problem as brake actuator failing again. Current mileage about 170,000. Luckily both times nobody was hurt, no property was damaged. However, I don't believe it that a vehicle should suddenly not be able to brake due to a computer malfunction, especially 42,000 miles apart.
I had my car in for 110,000 mile service on April 25. They changed the oil, rotated the tires, installed a new air filter and said that I needed new front brakes and they cleaned and adjusted the back brakes. Yesterday after backing out of the garage the brake light warning light along with the abs and vsc light came on briefly. On interstate 90 nearing downtown cleveland all of these lights came on again along with a noise. I called the Toyota dealer and talked to the service advisor and asked if it was safe to go to cleveland and back and he said if the brakes work, it it probably just a switch and it would be ok to bring it in tomorrow. While I still had him on the phone, we lost all power to the vehicle and it decelerated down to 30 before we were able to reach an exit ramp and stop the car in the grass. I was informed today that the problem is a low volt battery that needs to be replaced for $299. At no time did a low battery light come on and I have not had trouble starting the car nor do I have dim lights. We were fortunate that we were not killed on interstate 90 without power, steering or brakes. I think this is definitely a safety issue that needs to be addressed.
In order to start, the brakes must be depressed. The electrical switch that detects the brake pedal being depressed also controls the brake light indicators. This switch has started to fail, operating intermittently. The symptoms are inability to start the vehicle to "ready" mode for driving and the brake lights not operating which is extremely unsafe. Once the car has started to "ready" and can drive, the brake lights may or may not operate during driving.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Toyota Prius. The contact stated that she was driving 2 mph and made a stop at a traffic stop when the brake warning light illuminated. There was also an accompanying beep that sounded as the brakes failed. The vehicle was inspected at a local dealer and the contact was advised that the brake actuator failed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered to cover 30 percent of the repair costs. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileage was 90,000. Kmj.
I experienced a scary situation with my 2007 Prius today. While I was driving all of a sudden the abs brake light and dsc light and (!) light and brake light came on and stayed on. The car also made a loud buzzing noise in the cabin. I pumped the brakes and it was not very responsive. Luckily nobody was around because I felt had I needed to stop on a dime, I probably wouldn't be able to. I looked around online to find if others have had this problem and it appears there are plenty of cases where this type of sudden failure has occurred under 2007 abs Toyota Prius brake module complaints. I believe that there is a recall for this issue from the manufacturer. Please contact me - I need help!.
This is an incident involving the brake stability system of our Prius (2007). It did not result in a crash or injury. My wife had been going to different stores and on leaving a store, suddenly the brake system acted very strange. The vsc icon was on and the red parking brake light remained on. My wife could barely drive the car home. We read the instruction book and learned that she should not have driven the car. But this information is buried in a very large instruction manual. The car was towed to our Toyota dealer yesterday (March 18th). Working on it today, they still have not found the problem. The service advisor is joe and his phone number is 540 382 2981 ext 6326. We thought our experience might provide a clue to the problems that others are encountering with Toyota brakes.
When I drive my 2007 Prius to work, I pass by 101 south to 110 south freeway. At that curve, there is a little bump, when I drive about 30 mph at that bumpy spot, I experienced four times lost my breaking system for a second or two. (whenever I loose braking system brake light come on for a second or two) one tine I had nearly miss the car in front. Whenever I drive that spot I am slowing down to 20 mph. 2007 Prius definitely has braking problems. I am afraid to drive my Prius. I need help.
For the past several months, my 2007 Toyota Prius has experienced the occasional low speed braking problem that has been reported in the news media today. I first noted this when going over railway tracks at low speed while braking. I experienced what felt like a loss of traction briefly, and the anti-lock brake light warning system flashed. This has happened again in low speed braking situations while going over an uneven surface several times, but not constantly. I report this because my Prius is a 2007 model -- not a 2010, which initial news reports indicated were affected. I am the original owner. I notified the dealer (bob bridge Toyota in renton, wa) this morning. I initially did not understand the nature of the problem until I heard the news reports this morning.
Vehicle was sb in lane 2 of 2 when it is reported that the driver lost control struck a guard rail on the right then traveled across two lanes crossing onto a shoulder where it eventually struck a tree. Eye witnesses saw no brake lights at any point. Autopsy concluded that the driver died from trauma caused by impact with the tree. The vehicle was a 07 Prius.
